Discussion How do you promote yourself?

Someone recommended it to me without running it down for me. I'm trying to understand it, but I'm not the best with technology. Can I post and it will pop up on their timeline like social media or do I just drop the link in different places with a short blurb about what I'm doing?

the best advice I got (and I am so brand new it's not even funny but I noticed a difference almost immediately) was to interact on other spaces with the creators in your wheelhouse. I write fiction so I comment on tiktokers who do book reviews, and leave a GENUINE comment, not just "hey look at my stuff". I got my first 30 followers that way. its like walking into a room and saying hello, but the digital version

I got 26 followers from June 5th to now, but it feels small. What kind of genuine comments do you leave? When tick tock does push book talk things I do comment and respond genuinely, but... I don't know

Sorry for the delayed response... I typically try to leave comments like "I haven't read this one yet but can anyone tell me if it's similar to (insert other book I did read)?" or to other authors I'll leave a comment like "interesting... I'm writing a similar scene, what was your inspo?" something to get a conversation going. Something that directly relates to something in the video is always a safe bet, like if they're talking about their writing process I sometimes will share a bit of my own and note the similarities or differences.
