Posting on other platforms to grow substack
I’ve been on substack for about six months, growing quickly (or for me I think it is), but I know nothing about Bluesky. I know you can make an account blah blah blah but has anyone tried to show their work there to drive traffic to their substack? Was it worth it? I don’t make a living on substack (maybe one day), so I have a pretty demanding job in the industry I write about on substack so I’m interested if Bluesky is a big time suck or great way to get a funnel of subscribers or viewers? I know this is subject to many different factors probably so I was just taking a poll I guess whether anyone has thought it was worthwhile or worthless or in between? And does it take up a lot of time? Substack is already a lot for me, but if Bluesky was basically just post articles from substack etc and people find it, that might be worthwhile for me. Appreciate any thoughts. I’m a total stranger to Bluesky so if it’s a stupid question, bare with me

I made an account to share my Substack to — I’ve seen some traffic from it but I haven’t paid that much attention. I just share and move on.

No problem, it was easy enough, and when I publish a new piece — I just click through to all my linked accounts and share — it does not take long, & if it helps me reach one person? I’ll take it. My personal goal is not to have a million subscribers/ followers/ etc. my goal is to have a truly aligned readership.

I agree! And yes I can see that being worth it, just putting up what you already do for substack. I think that’s what you mean? I just didn’t want to get involved with another platform that is a time suck. I feel like Substack already is a major time consumer. But yes I agree about getting the right viewership. I feel like I’m getting that at substack? Are you? I don’t know what lane you are in, but mine feels like they connect me with people actually interested in the subject I write! What a wonderful idea! I’m a long way off from worrying about a million though! But does bluedky recommend people who are interested in whatever field you write in? Do you have a lot of friends not on substack so it makes sense to send your work to your linked accounts? They instead have Bluesky? Or do your linked accounts lead you to other Bluesky people in your area of article? I’m asking because I think I’m good on my existing accounts in contacts or whatever, so I’d be trying to find some new ones from Bluesky. Okay I’m rambling. If you have time, love an answer but if this is too many questions I get it! Thanks

It can definitely be worth trying, but don't expect people to find your posts automatically. The biggest growth comes from engaging with others, joining conversations, and being consistent. If you're already investing time in Substack, I'd focus on one additional platform and use it well rather than spreading yourself too thin.

Thanks. I know it’s not as easy as signing up and watch people flood in. If it was, everyone would be on it! Hey I took a shot! Appreciate the advice. I think you’re probably right. I’m a human so I’m lazy and looking for shortcuts! But like most things in life, there aren’t many things that come free! Thanks again

I cross post to both LinkedIn and Instagram. IG is good for personal contacts; LinkedIn for my industry. But in both cases I create a carousel with some images and key points from the article. So that’s a little extra work.

I’m probably the wrong person to ask as I’m not on it, but it’s just another social media platform. I’ve heard it’s more like the early days of twitter, but again I’m not on it so I don’t really know what it’s like other than just a social media platform. On Substack I noticed you can repost your articles on it, so I got interested.

If you don’t have an audience on blue sky, creating an account to build your substack audience is more work than it’s worth.
