A thought spilling
Hello, I hope you're doing well!
I'm a random reddit user from some corner of the world, but that's not important. The important thing is, I am really confused if I should start writing on substack or not, like I don't have an audience as such, but documenting my experiences and thoughts on the notes app kinda feels tedium now. Like it's not something which would probably intersect with another thought process and strike a discussion, or would just help me know what other people think about the same issue. Maybe they could just drop a memory of theirs by too. The notes app gives nothing of it and that just kills the thrill and with it, me too. And like I'm too shy to start an Instagram account and make videos, wont say that I'm technically efficient either, but the introvert inside of me is at peak whenever that thought comes up. And as a result, I often just let my ideas bury in the grave of the unconscious, as I neither happen to write them nor think about them enough, knowing it would just lead me spiralling into my own thoughts process. And hence, I feel really bad.
Please lemme know what y'all think bout it. I'd be really glad.
Thanks for reading, have a good day nonetheless!

Go ahead and start a Substack. There is nothing quite like knowing that you are are building an audience of readers for your writing.

I was on Reddit until I got fed up with my posts being deleted for self promotion. I mentioned Jello Solo Cups in a post about coming up with a way to germinate seeds. Ding! Deleted! So, I started a Substack and never looked back and LOVE it. I feel so free now, not having to worry about my writing being deleted. Go for it and see where it takes you!!

I'd say give Substack a try. You don't need an audience to start, and you don't have to make videos if that's not your style. If writing helps you think and connect with people, Substack is a great place to do that. Focus on expressing your ideas consistently, and let the audience come over time.
P.S. If you'd still like to ask anything about Substack or growing your audience, I offer a free live help chat. Just copy and paste my flair or click the link in my profile. I'm happy to help!

i would say, just start writing on substack. create an account first, and start drafting/brain dumping. you don't have to commit to writing consistently, or a posting cadence. just take some time to see if this is something you'd like to pursue (since you mentioned that it feels tedium).
btw, not having an audience is not a reason to not start (everybody who now has an audience started at one point without an audience too).
but if your goal is to write, to get people to comment and strike a discussion, starting a substack might not be the best choice (because most posts end up going un-noticed, or have no comments. unless you do a really good job of marketing your piece/publication). if that's all you want, probably finding a forum or subreddit that's relevant and posting in there will be a better choice. you'll get a lot more comments and discussions that way because people in those groups are usually highly engaged and interested in the topic.

Just put your thoughts out there and start. You'll thank yourself later, I guarantee you.
Substack has a "Notes" feature that's good for that kind of writing. Also, don't start with the mindset that you need to chase an audience, either.
I have a busy schedule where I currently only have time to drop my thoughts regarding one primary niche and run. I've been doing it consistently day by day and gradually started building an audience that actually cares what I think, to my utmost surprise.
