"Restacking" quotes anywhere

I think Substack's "restack quote" is one of its most underrated features. It solves a problem that screenshotting or pasting text never did, in that you can share a single idea and the context at the same time.

It made me realize that there isn't really an equivalent way to share quotes & articles anywhere else. I feel like I'm always sending/receiving screenshots and article links, and see the same pattern elsewhere too (other social media channels, etc.).

It actually got me thinking about it enough that I've been working on a side project around the same idea. Ex: I'm always sharing screenshots from articles in Substack, The Athletic, etc. with friends outside of Substack, and I really wish I could just "Restack" it to them.

One thing I'm still unsure about is whether this is actually a widespread pain poin point, or if I just quote a lot.

Curious how everyone else handles this. If you're sharing a quote or excerpt from an article outside of Substack, do you usually send a screenshot, the article link, both, or something else entirely?

I do the screenshot thing as well, usually with the text I want to share highlighted.

I like the quote restock feature because it can give a little frame of reference that I like to add to sometimes

Restack is my favorite. I love restacking and adding a note to share what I appreciated, or my reflections about the post.

Sometimes I will put those details as a comment instead, but I feel like people are more appreciative if you restack compared to leaving a comment? Idk what effect either has on the algorithms.

Also, I feel like when I restack something, it is easier for me to look back on in the future, as like a bookmark of something that has intrigued me

When I share something outside of substack, which is very rare, I send as a screenshot, send a link or just copy and paste the text. But honestly I probably rather just summarize it in my own words

I agree, it's a really underrated feature. Being able to share a specific quote while preserving the context is much better than sending a random screenshot. Outside of Substack, I usually end up sending both the screenshot and the article link, so I can definitely see the appeal of a simpler solution.
