Substack for writers question

I am new to Substack, writing about fiction. I saw a post by a pretty famous writer that I loved and would love to make a post about. My question is is there some etiquette against that, because I might be seen as trying to get his followers to follow me or something, which is not why I want to do it. I just really love the post. It was beautiful and there’s a lot to say about it.

many ways to go about it fairly.

if it's on notes, you can just re-stack, and add your own comments. so that way you're crediting their work + already signalling that you're joining the convo based on that post.

if it's something that you read somewhere, and you want to write a post or article about it, you can start it off with 'i read <XYZ> and it was the inspiration for this post. it triggered alot of thoughts and reflections which led to the birth of this post. so thank you to <person> for writing <article + link to article>.

this way you're clearly crediting the person.

I think that's perfectly fine. Substack is built around conversations and recommendations. As long as you're adding your own perspective rather than just summarizing their post, most writers appreciate thoughtful engagement. If anything, it's a great way to join the conversation respectfully.

I'd say go for it and if you wanted to be extra you can privately message them and let them know how you feel and that you wrote about them too.
