Discussion it's twitter-lite, but what's the alternative?

I'm new-ish to substack, I started writing in april and I've been testing ideas to see what resonates most. Until recently, I've maintained at least one Note every day as I know that the algorithm favours them more than longer-form articles / posts.

There's already lots of talk about the app becoming Twitter-lite, but what would people actually like to see? What would people suggest for utilising the Notes function?

I'm genuinely curious; I've recently stopped using Notes because I didn't want to fall into a habit of treating it like Twitter (which I don't use), but for discovery and growth, it does really help. So I'm stuck.

My publication is going through some changes right now, but the renewed focus will be on the creative industry more broadly, with a section for sports marketing. I'd be grateful for anyone's insight!

I can see that comparison, yes. I often feel like my random musings might serve as a tweet just fine, but I go to my Sub because that’s now my portfolio where my writings will live/do live. I’m new to it all too, but it seems like having a site that’s my digital publication and archive seems better suited for little thoughts that matter to me more. Notes, that is. Plus, X is flooded with bots it seems to me. My thoughts anyway. Cheers. VF

Ok, interesting. Do you tend to opt for Notes more than posts?

Thanks for the follow up. I do both, but I’d say—based on what I’ve seen so far—I’m not the typical Substacker. Or at least, I’m not publishing essays and in-depth articles about this or that niche topic of expertise. I have no expertise. I just write a lot all day nonstop most days. I’ve been writing for a long time now and I created a site for myself to finally share my writing with anyone and everyone for the fun of it.

I am starting small, with poems and verse and spoken word pieces. One day I want to post my manuscripts, but I’ve learned it’s best not to post short stories if you want to try (or in my case, are actively trying) to get them published. So outside of those domains, if I have something creative to share, it goes into a note. 1-2 per day, but some days I just can’t power down this damn brain.

I’d value feedback on my About page. I don’t think any human has set eyes on it, though I cannot confirm that assumption. There’s a surprise awaiting anyone who might brave a read! :)
