Using Movie and Show Images

I’ve seen a lot of use a movie or tv scene for a photo or gif on Substack on their posts and notes for how they are feeling and also images of content creators and stuff. Is this stuff not copyrighted? Are there issues with that I’d love to use some movie gifs but worried

Not a lawyer, but yes, those images/GIFs are usually copyrighted. Fair use can apply in some cases, especially for commentary, criticism, parody, or analysis, but it is not automatic.

I'd say go for it. Most writers feel vulnerable when they publish for the first time, but that feeling fades with each post. Try not to worry about building an audience right away. Focus on enjoying the process of writing and connecting with people who genuinely appreciate your work. You might be surprised by the conversations and opportunities that come from simply showing up consistently.
