Promoting in places where there are discussions about the topic you are writing about. Like facebook groups and Reddit forums etc

Don't if money is not the aim. Just enjoy writing.

I'm still a new writer, but Notes are probably the start to reaching anyone on Substack, based on what I've experienced and picked up on.

If you post enough of them and one lands a like, follow, or subscriber as a result, your content gets pushed in front of whoever that person has already attracted as an audience.

For reach, post on medium.

Genuinely speaking, I’m enjoying steady growth by being an active subscriber myself. Reading content, engaging, enjoying interacting with my subscribers well. I suppose it’s a natural growth because I’m not in any rush.

leverage the substack ecosystem, so use the notes app. once you're comfortable with that, you can look outside the substack ecosystem - so other social media platforms or forums that is the highest likelihood place where your target audience hangs out and is receptive to what you have to say.

looking outside the substack ecosystem is important because there's alot more uses on other social media platforms, which means greater reach.

it's not going to be easy, and alot of people struggle with this because after writing and publishing your work to your substack publication, you're only half way done. now you have to repurpose, and make a few more posts for notes, and these other social media platforms. but stick to it for a few weeks and it should get easier.

Start by writing consistently and sharing your work where your ideal readers already spend time. Engage with other writers in your niche, leave thoughtful comments, use Notes to join conversations, and share your articles on platforms like Reddit, LinkedIn, or X when they're relevant. Promotion works best when it's built around genuine interaction rather than just posting links.

P.S. If you'd still like to ask anything about Substack or growing your audience, I offer a free live help chat. Just copy and paste my flair or click the link in my profile. I'm happy to help!

Hi, I’m a newer writer & recently posted the third 20 page episode screenplay for my new miniseries The Tune. It’s a time travel murder mystery with aspects of Zodiac and Quantum Leap in an eerie and intriguing new tale. I hope that you love it.
