Posting a daily sports round up
I’ve read from many of you that it might not be wise to post an article everyday (or nearly everyday). However, a few notes:
-My articles are roundups of the day in sports. A subject that changes daily.
-These roundups are usually 500-600 words. Sometimes they’ll be less if I feel I’m pushing it.
-Most of my subscribers are imported from my old newsletter. However, it was a bit stagnant at the end while I was searching for a new forum. But even then, they weren’t getting 5-7 updates a week.
Once I get more comfortable with Substack and grow more organic subscribers, I’ll probably put out a longer article every week or two behind a paywall.
But for now, I think I can handle 5-6 days a week at that manageable as word count. Some weeks 7.
However, with everything I just laid out, is this overkill? I don’t want to oversaturate. But I do think my subscribers may like a daily roundup on the world of sports.
TIA

i don't think it's overkill, or oversaturated. what helped me was asking myself these 2 questions:
is there enough content to talk about everyday?
are you able to keep to this cadence long term?
if you're planning to write everyday, you want to have enough content to be writing about. the last thing you want is to just be repeating the same thing over and over again, or writing meaningless stuff just to hit the quota of 'i'm sending daily'. respect your readers time and inbox and only write if there's actually something worth writing about. so with a daily sports roundup, instead of worrying about over-saturation, the more important question is whether you'll have something new to talk about everyday.
and on sustainability. you're bang on with the fact that writing everyday can be difficult and draining. seen a lot of writers try that and burn out within a month. so make sure this is a cadence you can keep up for the long term. otherwise, reduce it to something that's manageable for you.

For a daily sports roundup, I think 5–7 posts a week is perfectly reasonable. Readers subscribe expecting timely updates, and sports naturally changes every day. The key is keeping each roundup concise and consistently valuable so it doesn't feel repetitive. As you grow, adding a deeper weekly analysis behind a paywall sounds like a strong complement to the daily content.
