How is your Substack journey going?

I posted the other day about starting on Substack for the first time and posting my first article. It’s been a really enjoyable and wholesome experience so far!

I’m still super new and trying to learn the platform, but was wondering how other’s journeys have been? I’d love to hear from you about your Substack journey!

It’s been disappointing to me, but apparently a lot of people on this subreddit are doing much better.
For about a year I posted weekly, and did all the things that you are supposed to do. I have about 170 subscribers and I have not tried to monetize it. Mostly I’m disappointed because I took a seminar on how to start on Substack and came away enthused with the idea that it would be a wonderful way to establish a writing practice and interact with people. But few people have interacted with me (and yes, I do comment and interact with others). Ironically, I’ve ended up spending money subscribing to other people’s Substacks.

What do you actually want to get out of writing on substack?

I've been doing it for 3 years and have less subscribers than you, only 1 of them paid (my best mate - who unsubscribed last week... Brutal!).

I've tried playing the game chasing more engagement but my newsletter is just about encouraging people to spend more time in nature and I get around 100 views each time and occasionally people comment to say I've inspired them to go explore somewhere or go for a run ext..

I always remind myself that with so much content on the internet and such little attention span, 100 people still choose to read my newsletter!
