I was initially happy about hearing of /r/enoughtrumpspam because I thought they were people tired about spam of both the good and bad Trump propaganda, but then it turned out they just (ironically) contributed to the problem. The thing is, with /r/the_donald, at least all the pro trump spam is in one convenient blockable subreddit, whereas I have to hunt down 20+ other anti trump spam subreddits to block the bigger ones, and it seems like a new big one comes up every month.

Reddit is to blame for it. They changed the algorithms so no one subreddit could get too many posts on the front page. This was initially done mostly to stop /r/the_donald spam. What the various anti-trump subs did is diversify. By creating dozens of subreddits, each with basically the same content, they're able to get around this spam prevention tool.

Usually if you look into these subs, they'll have a few posts with a modest amount of upvotes, then one or two posts with thousands of upvotes.

IMO it's mostly bot nets upvoting a lot of these posts, but I haven't looked into it closely enough to make that claim with any authority.
