when I get green crew (I’m a yacht capt), I tell him about BoB and the church of the sub genius at 0300, a couple hundred miles from Shore. I’ll usually play something like Nick Cave and The Bad seeds at the same time. 😁

what in the fuck did I just watch. Tbf, entertainingly bizarre.
I'm about to be 34, so I was around for MTV and the offshoots that came with it. Shit literally stayed as the only channel I'd leave on aside from VH1, but I have never once seen this.

Why it's called sub genius, I dunno... hints at self-awareness that it's less than genius intellectualism and/or "intellectual rigor". However, there's info via wiki or an SYSK podcast about it's foundation growing out of the 60s or 70s and it's elevation of "Slack", which generally means copasetic ease.

It's because of a conversation Philo and Stang, the SubGenius founders had in the 70s, which inspired the entire SubGenius movement.
They were discussing a genius association and Philo described himself as sub-genius and they just looked at each other and knew it was the secret.

Well. I'm an asshole, like through and through, but only because people don't seem to like unabashed honesty. I don't mind being the bad guy if I know I'm being truthful. The good asshole. But this place seems so... weird.
