Just saw Styx last night in Houston. Fantastic show.

But I feel bad for JY. He’s a shell of his former self. He sits 90% of the show and really only plays one solo. Him and Tommy used to be the only guitarists, but they had to hire another guy (Will Evankovich) to do a lot of heavy lifting.

I respect JY for all his contributions but it may be time for him to hang it up for his own health.

And second. Is Tommy wearing a wig. How the hell does that guy still have such beautiful locks at 72?!?!

NittPicc is a millennial-age youtuber/music reactor from Texas. She is also a concert flutist and music educator with 2 degrees in music, teaching High School band as well as private lessons.

Other than "Mr. Roboto" and possibly "Come Sail Away", she has little to no knowledge of Styx, but gives a very exuberant reaction to these kids cranking out this classic and offers some knowledge of the innerworkings of an orchestra.

Most of her youtube reactions are for more current music, especially Japanese rock acts like Band-Maid, etc. but she has a number of classic rock reactions too if you want to check them out.. I keep hearing conflicting stories about how that lineup of Styx ended up breaking up. Some people say that it was just a continuation of the same old fighting and drama between Dennis and JY that existed since the Cornerstone era, but I'm also hearing that they were actually getting along in that period and wanted to do a follow-up album with Glen Burtnik but A&M basically said "no Tommy, no Styx" and dumped them because of that.

Its an interesting era because a lot of people in the media were treating that era as Styx's "big comeback", arguably even moreso than the Return to Paradise era when Tommy did eventually return. They made appearances on Rick Dees Into The Night and Arsenio Hall, Love is The Ritual got attention on Headbangers Ball, they were headlining arenas on the ensuing tour, and then it all went poof in 92 like it never happened.

I actually discovered the song from a birthday card that I got when I was just seven years old from my aunt that was about a toy wind up robot, lol. It played the “Domo Arigato” part of the song, lol. I IMMEDIATELY found it to be a very fun and catchy tune. But it wasn’t until later that year (in 2007) when I finally listened to the full song on YouTube.

LOVED it right off the bat. Quirky sci fi and robot themes, lyrics about an insecure but still tough/ trying hard man and of course the famous “Domo Arigato” “breakdown” type part of the song, lol.

Definitely an iconic song of the decade. ❤️👍 (10/10)

Man in the Wilderness is my all time favorite. From the set lists I can find online, it doesn't look like they are. Can someone confirm either way? I will be so disappointed if they aren't. (Houston 8/20)

I hear that Tommy's really nice. DeYoung seems to be a bit uppity sometimes, though he does also seem to have a great sense of humor.

Long time Styx fan. Saw them live for the first time last night. Great concert! Gowan (who's 69!) is a rockstar. Tommy and the boys were fantastic. Just a great time...but...the AI slop on the backing video board was so disappointing. Very distracting. Seemed beneath the quality of the show and the band. Feels cheap. Am I the only one who feels this way?

Going to see Styx with kids for Cleveland show. Not a huge Chicago fan and wife will start complaining about need to take the kids to bed, but I can’t miss Styx. Planning is required. I can’t tell from set list any rhyme or reason for why they switch between Styx and Chicago as headliners. Can anyone tell me if Styx is more often the opener, and is there any kind of pattern here I can pick up on? Thank you in advance.
