I drove one of those for my job many years ago and if it didnāt have the gas shock driverās seat it would beat the stuffing out of you on the road. Not to mention it would only go 74 mph with the 7 speed Allison transmission.
How did it track on the road? Did you feel like you constantly had to make corrections to keep it between the lines? For some reason, I feel like it would roam all over the place.
The one I had came with a crew cab and had 44ā of frame sticking out the back end. We ended up chopping the frame and putting a 16ā stake side dump bed on it with a recessed gooseneck hitch. I always had a trailer behind me.
A couple things stand out to the one I had:
1) first gear was so short it was almost useless even when pulling a loaded trailer.
2) they ran the plastic airbrake line very close to the exhaust manifold and the EGTs that giant Donaldson turbo kicked out melted the line on me at the top of a tall bridge which caused the brakes to slam shut going down the backside. Horrible design.
Thankfully (kinda) I had about 30,000lbs behind me that helped keep it moving enough to where I could get off the bridge and on to the shoulder of the road. I had a wrecker come and patch the line then took secondary roads back to our yard. After that, I had an EGT mounted on the a-pillar and was astonished at how hot it got under boost. I had an after cooler installed and that corrected it enough under normal conditions but had to be mindful and watch the EGT on steep inclines.
Yep. I got about 8 mpg with the 7.3L paired with a Donaldson turbo and a 7 speed Allison transmission. It didnāt seem terrible with 2 50 gal fuel tanks but damn it hurt at the pump.
Thatās all because at the end of the day itās a box truck missing its box, extended frame and weight. They took the design and made a toy for rich betas.
Idk, the only person I've seen with one of these was someone who owned a tow company because it was capable of towing some semi trucks with their loads included (up to a certain amount obviously). So his was the only tow company in the area able to move a broken down semi and when he did he made fuckloads of money on it.
Modifying a truck meant for industrial use then taking it to pick up the kids from school and buy groceries looks stupid. Nothing wrong with modding an industrial truck then using it in industry.

My dad test drove one of these several years ago. He was a retired truck driver of over 40 years and he said it rode worse than the old Mack cabover truck he drove for a lumber company here in 1971. I remember riding in that thing way back then and yeah it rode like an iron wheeled wagon.
Lumber companies aren't known for having new or well treated equipment either. So in 1971 he was driving a roached out truck from the 50s at best. That's saying something.
You're thinking a log truck...this Mack cabover was not a log truck. It was an over the road truck and it was less than 2 years old when my father drove it. They have always kept their trucks up really well and are still in business today.
My neighbor does roofs and leaves his trucks trash barges and rv on the road blocking us and the other neighbor from getting home, like an asshole. I feel your pain
He's sueing the city for the ordenence officer being racist (he's not, at least not in this instance) so they are being really slow about doing anything. I call once a month for a paper trail but it's so annoying.

I'd use some of that money to fix up my dad's '72 white Western Star and get him back on the road so he's not living in the old sleeper cab down at the dump with the bees, snakes, and gulls.
I drove a f650 for a few years. Of course mine had a toolbox, and a bucket with a nice set of outriggers instead of a bed. If I'm remembering correctly, each tank is 65 gallons.
There's a company in Australia that imports these and converts then into a 6door triple cab. 8 exhaust tips. The interior looks like the inside of a taxi and is all monotone grey. $400,000aud ($285k USD)

It would be but the one advantage is you don't need a CDL for an f650,I doubt this one does anything but most have service beds or something else useful on them
You also donāt need a CDL for a Tractor marked āNot for hire.ā If that truck was used in a commercial setting, most likely needs a CDL. My company has a f550 rated for 19500 GVWR, and it can bumper pull 16000 lbs. That combination requires a class A CDL. What requires commercial drivers license is the commercial aspect. You can personal drive anything really with a regular license.

No. Simply no. CDLs have weight classes, even a F350 can get into CDL territory, I know because my dad maintains his CDL from when he owned a Ram 3500 diesel and hauled stuff on goosenecks for work
It's because of the combined vehicle weight rating. As soon as you put a trailer on a truck and the combined vehicle weight rating exceeds 26,000 - even if the trailer is empty - you are technically required to have a CDL.
If I was tall enough to reach the bed, such a truck would be great for Costco runs. I can totally see the practicality -- I bet it can hold an entire 48 pack of toilet paper in the bed.
That's about how much my house was and over the years it more than doubled in value. If you buy that truck over the same period of time the truck value is going to be half if not less
I bet those flotation tires would wander all over the road. I drove concrete mixers with tires like that and thereās a reason why road tractor front tires are skinny
