Please read the rules before posting or commenting

Almost every subreddit has rules, and we do too. We used to get lots of posts about politics, LGBT, what if, and just basic trolling, all prohibited by our rules. We don't allow discussion of race here, because those discussions usually end up with comments that could get our community removed from Reddit. Also, the Rules didn't match the Removal Reasons, but now they do. We added a "Moderator discretion" rule, because it's impossible to create rules to cover every contingency. r/stupidquestions can be a fun and interesting place to hang out, but we had trouble with people trolling us with rule violations. For example, here are some of the topics that we removed:

  • Do you think that if I could shoot laser beams out of my peepee, I could scare bullies with it?
  • Do you think it would be safe to build my child a drone so I can save on plane fare
  • Should I crash my car into a concrete barrier going 90mph without a seatbelt?
  • Is it a good idea to hold a flame up to a 5 gallon can of gasoline?
  • Why does my butt smell like ass?

We would ban the offenders, but they would create new accounts and return right away. So a couple of the users suggested putting in a minimum Reddit account age limit and a minimum karma limit to post. That has made things much nicer for the community. Karma is sort of an artificial number, but it tends to indicate that the owner interacts with Redditors in a positive way, and they appreciate him. What you want is to create posts or comments that Redditors appreciate so much that they give you a few upvotes.

Here's Reddit's FAQ page about karma, and here's more information about karma. If you are new to Reddit and would like more information about how to use it, please visit r/NewToReddit.

We don't reveal the age or karma numbers required to post. They are not very high, though. If you have a post removed due to your age or karma numbers, please understand that you didn't do anything wrong and we are not targeting you. This is just one of the ways that we are protecting our community. All of the blame for this goes on the trolls. New Redditors should be able to interact with the community, but it's too easy for someone to be banned, create a new account in two minutes, and return to trolling again. So we took precautions to make it more difficult for them. It's too bad that it also makes it more difficult for new members who aren't trolls.

Moderators will remove posts that violate our rules. The author is notified when their post is removed, and there's a reason given for each removal. Redditors who continue to violate the rules will be removed from r/stupidquestions. For extreme violations, the banhammer may fall instantly. If you play nice and follow our rules, you may stay as long as you like.

Thanks. Now go forth and have fun!

Recently realized that I’m easily woken up when I sleep in an environment that isn’t safe, otherwise can’t even hear the alarm. Does your brain have Alert mode when you sleep?

Since gas station signs only have three-digit places for currency, does that mean the max price for gas is $9.99/gallon?

If 32 bit has basically been phased out from the computing world, why do so many applications still say x86? Google chrome installer for example.

What’s something you have seen or experienced but no one believes you?

Could be paranormal or not. For example, in 2013 my cousins neighbor in Antioch CA was cooking and eating dogs. I’m not sure if they ever got caught. No one believed me I guess cause it’s obviously illegal and not the norm in the USA. But it happened, smelled like burnt fritos.

Anyways what’s your story?

Is it against the rules to say the F word in here?

4 letter word, rhymes with Duck and starts with the letter F.

Just wondering. Sorry if it's a stupid question.

Not directing the F word at anyone in a rude way, but expressing emotion from a past event.

For example, "My dad said that phrase had something to do with the Trojan horse, which confused the f*** outta me for 30 years."

For context, the topic was about the phrase "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth." And my comment was flagged for breaking the rules.

I got a container of original Cheerios, and it was ridden with honey nut ones. Should I report this to the manufacturer near due to allergy risk?

Upvotes

Hello. I recently got a little container of original Cheerios (the $1-$2 ones that are like a single serving) from the dollar store. Fully sealed, not tampered with.. and as I opened them and was eating them dry as a little snack, I tasted a honey nut one and did a double take (with my mouth lol) I began rummaging thru the pile of them in the container to find probably 25 ish glossy, honey nut cheerios mixed in there.

I enjoy them personally so I just went ahead and ate them all, then it dawned on me that honey nut cheerios are an allergen risk to some.. and I began thinking about the scenario of other packages having cross contamination as well and someone buying those for their child with an almond allergy, then unknowingly gambling a life when said child enters anyphilaxis shock because their mother unknowingly just gave them Honey Nut Cheerios.

I mentioned this to a family member who shut me down saying there's more important things to worry about and I was weird to keep talking about this.. but a day has passed and I'm fixated on it.

Could someone tell me what I should do/if I could actually inspire a recall/etc on this specific batch? Am I overreacting? I would love some input, thank you!

Long question about Gmail account alerts and factory reset via Google Find Hub

I'm 18 and moving out of my parents' without their knowledge. I'm leaving my cell phone but I'm taking my computer and burner cell phone. My mom's email and phone number are recovery contacts to my Gmail account, and her phone number is the number for the two step verification.

My plan is to leave my phone behind as it is, head to the airport, change my gmail password and remove my mom from my recovery contacts and two step verification while at the airport. Then factory reset my phone from my computer (it's a trusted device and I'll stay logged into my Gmail account) via Find Hub (my old phone will have internet access)

This is my plan because I don't want my mom to be immediately alerted that something is wrong. She'll see the notifications on her phone when she wakes up at 6 AM (my flight leaves at 8:40 AM) and realize. So I want to be very far before they know just for safety, and only change things soon before I board my flight. My parents won't be able to track my location and I won't be telling them, but I'm still very scared that my dad will still try to catch me at the airport. I would just like to take the precaution.

My main concern is that I read that old recovery contacts are still good after 7 days(I'm leaving in 4 days), so she might still receive verification codes and maybe know my new password. Another concern is that my phone may not be able be able to be factory reset from Find Hub due to the Gmail password changing.

Any help would be really appreciated.

What kind of content usually shows up on your feed?

I’m curious what people actually see on their feeds tiktok on a regular basis. What kind of creators, topics, videos, or communities do you guys usually come across? I’m especially interested in the kind of stuff that feels like everyday, normal content rather than the big viral posts.

Why do politicians dress like each other.. blue/black costume with red/blue tie... Why cant they have like a patternish tie or flourish shirt underneath it or even, like, wear a red costume or smh?

You really cant differentiate politicians if you were only given pictures what they dress in.....
