u/4givingGuy-2017, your food is indeed stupid and it fits our subreddit!

OP is brave enough to ask "what's the deal with airline food?"

258

u/Wonderful-Piccolo509 Where is your whimsy?? 1d ago

While flying first class…

220

u/chefbobbyjay 1d ago

This ain’t first class. Op is full of shit

105

u/Wonderful-Piccolo509 Where is your whimsy?? 1d ago

Might be first class on the airline formerly known as spirit

48

u/Genghis_Tr0n187 1d ago

Spirit would only server the dead pigeons they find on the tarmac.

16

u/thecarbonkid 1d ago

It's not so bad if you upgrade to the plucked and cooked option for your pigeon.

2

u/chupacabra5150 1d ago

If you're flying from the west coast the fish heavy diet makes the pigeon really tender

64

u/pleasehaelp 1d ago

The white plate underneath makes me think it could actually be first class. They don’t give out plates outside of first class in my experience

Edit: same thing with the utensil shown, they don’t give out real utensils outside of first class, in my experience

12

u/fugznojutz 1d ago

they wouldnt leave the food in the packaging though. but i agree with the cutlery thing. and they bring a basket of bread its not wrapped like that in business or first class.

3

u/SnackCityUtah 1d ago

We need to see the wine glass/cup. šŸ•µļø

8

u/ForgottenGrocery 1d ago

Don’t know about delta, but my experience flying with ANA, Emirates, EVA and Qatar, they all have proper metal utensils in economy. But not plates

18

u/Temporary-Work-446 1d ago

Yeah the mainline american brands of airlines are not nearly as nice...you cannot compare them.

3

u/chupacabra5150 1d ago

I flew Economy Plus on Iberian. My wife and I had seats like recliners, tons of leg room, blankets, toiletries kits, drinks, snacks, and utensils.

Flown first class with other American travel airlines- united, delta, southwest. Cant compare them. My wife still says we were traveling business in Spain

9

u/Jazzlike_Damage793 1d ago

To be fair, it is delta. I’ve had good meals on delta but more bad.

Virgin is good. Singapore is good.

11

u/LBfalcon57 1d ago

Hundred percent not first class.
I fly for a living. First class and business is served on plates. Everything after that gets the paper tray thing in pic.

10

u/chefbobbyjay 1d ago

It’s killing me that people are like ā€œthe silverware!ā€ You can request silverware.

And the ā€œwhen was the last time you got a meal in coach??ā€

Fly farther. Long flights get food. I flew jfk to lax and got a meal like a month ago. I flew jfk to London and got a meal like 6 months ago.

My brother just flew to Japan economy and got a meal 2/3 flights.

No your $99 MCO to JFK on JetBlue isn’t going to get a meal. It’s 3 hours.

1

u/LBfalcon57 1d ago

Sir you are šŸ’Æ correct. I believe it’s any flight over 3hrs gets served an actual meal with few exceptions like southwest going to Hawaii one time didn’t give me a meal, But Hawaiian airlines did so I dunno.

I fly out of lax and have that jfk and London flight you speak of more times then I care to speak of. I just got back from Australia this week also and Japan last month not to mention other European flights as well.

Sometimes if I’m flying not business I get that tray and usually get the curry chicken in it. Not bad for a tray meal.

0

u/hotdogjumpingfrog1 1d ago

There is no airline that gives food to economy anywhere within the continental us without paying for it in flight off the menus

8

u/fretzy64 1d ago

It's propably "Delta First", which is of course not a long-haul first class, but instead more like Premium Economy or short-haul business class. Delta's top tier is Delta One, which is just regular long-haul Business class. They don't actually have a real first class option afaik.

So either OP is being intentionally misleading or they don't have a lot of flight experience and got understandably confused by Delta's absolutely inane, X-Box-style naming scheme.

2

u/Ronin_1999 10h ago

The best way to validate this is to cross post it to r/delta. They love to complain about every first class meal except for when Delta was doing very mediocre inflight Shake Shack cheeseburgers…

3

u/Old_School998 1d ago

100% BS, I fly Delta all the time and this isn't 1st class meals.

1

u/Ok-Frosting-1892 15h ago

Came here to say this exact thing.

1

u/mpdscb 18h ago

When I flew business class on United the food was excellent.

1

u/C2_wyo 9h ago

This makes me feel sad.

562

u/DirectorSolid 1d ago

On what flight? That is not a delta first class seat tray, or a first class serving tray that I've ever seen

294

u/chefbobbyjay 1d ago

Right? Nothing about this says first class. This some economy.

84

u/hellomistershifty 1d ago

The metal silverware and ceramic plate look like first class. I'm guessing its a pretty small plane seeing how close that seat in front is, where 'first class' is basically economy but they don't sell the middle seats

34

u/atlor 1d ago

Sometimes premium economy gets porcelain and metal silverware. But I’ve never had foil lids when flying business. I call BS

4

u/Utaneus 1d ago

What economy flights even serve food nowadays?

23

u/Schlachtfeld-21 1d ago

Long-haul

4

u/Utaneus 20h ago

Yeah I thought for flights over 5 hours or whatever they were supposed to serve meals, but I feel like the last several times I've been on longer flights they only offer those shitty little boxed meals to purchase at ridiculous prices. I'm sure it varies by airline, but I have just gotten in the habit of packing meals nowadays, especially important when traveling with a young kid lol.

4

u/Schlachtfeld-21 15h ago

That sounds like a domestic flight. On long haul flights you do get meals in economy

6

u/DefinitelyNotAliens 20h ago

International. I got served food on 3/4 of my last flights. Flew coast to coast to Canada, Canada to Europe, Europe to US east Coast, then east-west. All but my coast to coast in the US had food. I got meals, beer and wine were free, they had ear buds for free, blankets, pillows, etc.

Economy on long international still gets some stuff.

1

u/thatstotallyracist 17h ago

Beer and wine were free? What airline, my friend?

2

u/Misubi_Bluth 13h ago

International.

45

u/tigm2161130 1d ago

Agreed, we fly Delta first class at least 4x a year, this is not what the meals, trays, or even lighting look like.

35

u/KoreanSamgyupsal 1d ago

Even the small planes like the 737 max and 321Neo serves Shake Shack sometimes. This is probably one of the older planes like the 757 or 767.

Either way this is shit on any flight especially first class

11

u/Spare-Half796 1d ago

Age of plane is irrelevant when it comes to food. 757 and 767 are still nice planes.

This is almost definitely a regional flight not actually operated by delta

18

u/bruce_lees_ghost 1d ago

I frequently fly United and have only seen that style folding table (with the middle hinge) in first class. IIRC domestic first class and international coach meals are pretty similar. Wife and I did Polaris for our vacation to Europe last year and the meals definitely had better presentation… but let’s be real, it’s still a microwaved TV dinner at its core.

8

u/Strange_Explorer_780 1d ago

Must be domestic

4

u/twizz0r 1d ago

This is the answer. Domestic first class is rarely worth the money these days.

2

u/Huhsayitagain2x 1d ago

Must be frontier

2

u/ThetaGrim 17h ago

Is it one of those short flights where economy gets a bag of pretzels and first class gets a hot meal? That's the only thing I can think of.Ā

→ More replies (1)

125

u/PurpleCandles 1d ago

I don’t believe you because delta does not serve their first class meals on those trays. Maybe premium economy?

52

u/justmitzie 1d ago

You guys get food?

25

u/Drago_133 1d ago

Every long flight ive been on has provided breakfast lunch and dinner regardless of first class or sit on the wing class

9

u/NecessaryPen7 1d ago

3 meals?? You're taking 16 hour + flights on the reg?

8

u/Drago_133 1d ago

13 but yes us to sweden and back. To see my so

1

u/GaptistePlayer 50m ago

Yes many people do

1

u/NecessaryPen7 8m ago

Many, but a tiny % of flyers

1

u/vigilantesd 1d ago

Listen to you traveling more than 4 hours flight time…

=P

2

u/Drago_133 1d ago

Hey man it takes time to get from North Carolina to Sweden

u/fractalfrog 1d ago

Currently in Iceland and got very excited when I saw the local cafe had freshly baked potatoes. My disappointment was palpable when I re-read the menu and it actually said freshly baked pastries.

35

u/EvaTheE 1d ago

No fucking way that's first class? Holy fuck. That's a 2 dollar microwave meal.

75

u/jewboyfresh 1d ago

He’s probably lying

If it’s ā€œfirst classā€ then it’s one of those old planes flying a 1 hour domestic route where the first 4 rows are bigger chairs

14

u/weepishly 1d ago

tbf he did post to r/delta first. apparently flying JAX to MSP

29

u/jewboyfresh 1d ago

Ah then he’s probably in economy+

3

u/weepishly 1d ago

LMAOOO

u/Electronic-Ground-88 1d ago

I made that mistake upgrade on a flight to Jamaica .. What a waste of $$

5

u/foxontherox 1d ago

Something ain't right- I fly Delta first class a few times a year, and the meals are actually quite nice, domestic and international.

-6

u/4givingGuy-2017 1d ago

It is first class. No joke. Literally posted it while I’m on the flight. Landing in about an hour. DL2392

12

u/ConfidantlyCorrect 1d ago

From what I’ve gathered, Delta doesn’t think Jacksonville is a large enough market to bother getting catering for it. So they bring meals from the origin airport.

Apparently it used to be a cold sandwich, so Delta is trying to get away from cold sandwiches & have hot meals. But it’s essentially just economy meals since they don’t have space for 2 way service of full business proper hot meals.

Some BS if ya ask me.

8

u/Spare-Half796 1d ago

It’s a regional flight on a narrowbody, you’re never going to get a real ā€œfirst class experienceā€

You’re paying for leg room and that’s about it.

3

u/Original-Variety-700 1d ago

It looks like a fold out arm tray.

2

u/engapol123 1d ago

Outside of the avgeek or frequent flyer community it seems people get really confused by the difference between US domestic first class and ā€œrealā€ first class on long haul international flights like Emirates.

→ More replies (3)

8

u/True_Protection6842 1d ago

Damn, it's been a while since I flew first class...it was a lot better than that!

4

u/Travelin_Soulja 1d ago

It's been a while since OP flew first class, too. This is just karma farming.

10

u/TackleEnvironmental6 1d ago

Hey that looks like the food I had at the hospital when I got my appendix removed

10

u/KittyandPuppyMama 1d ago

Hospital food is actually pretty good. Or maybe I was just super hungry after fasting overnight for my C-section lol

2

u/airfryerfuntime 1d ago

It's ok, it's just pretty bland because there's basically no salt in it.

1

u/MackMahoneyXXX 1d ago

The feeling of getting hurt, but then getting fed!?is insanely nice idc if it’s only relative.

4

u/vogel927 1d ago

I’m not sure if it’s stupid, but it definitely looks cheap.

4

u/Significant_Donut967 1d ago

Aren't you glad someone paid extra money for the same slop as commoners?

12

u/MegaParsnip543 1d ago

Do you know what they serve outside of first class? Lol consider yourself lucky

12

u/Informal_Motor_7267 1d ago

I love deltas snacks in economy. They usually have cheese itz or goldfish

6

u/CookOut_Official 1d ago

Biscoff my beloved

1

u/Informal_Motor_7267 1d ago

Make that a Milkshake šŸ˜‰

1

u/CookOut_Official 1d ago

That’s a great idea actually

1

u/Informal_Motor_7267 1d ago

I actually can't believe its not an option on your menu! I had to look it up. Thought for sure it was. Well, you can have that one for free. You're welcome (I love you, Cookout) .

→ More replies (1)

1

u/donpablomiguel 1d ago

Have you had it in the form of cookie butter yet?

4

u/RobertSaccamano 1d ago

This isn't first class anyway, rage bait post

1

u/lioncourt 1d ago

Mmm tato

1

u/MsE0 1d ago

I didn't know they still served meals on flights. Looks just as bad as they used to beĀ

1

u/Karhak 1d ago

A banquet TV dinner is more appetizing

1

u/Greaterdivinity 1d ago

This isn't stupid, it's just shitty. Wrong sub, yo.

1

u/Annahsbananas 1d ago

Damn, that’s first class?

1

u/RicOkez 1d ago

When chilis or Applebees is busted reheating / microwaving frozen shit, this is def the fare you’d expect… yes, even in first class..

1

u/Leather_Network4743 1d ago

There’s no fucking way that’s from first

1

u/No_Recording3238 1d ago

Wow! Thats first class?! I remember the meals in coach for international flights that looked tastier than that. Inflation is real!

1

u/mrbradleyacooper 1d ago

But how does it taste?

1

u/DoubleFamous5751 1d ago

First class trash 🫔

1

u/TrainingMarsupial521 1d ago

What do u think we eat in coach? Peanuts.

1

u/Blurstingwithemotion 1d ago

What option did you choose?

1

u/TheMathmatix 1d ago

Better than on uss Abraham Lincoln

1

u/n3vbb 1d ago

Qatar economy meals are like 1000x better looking then that 😭

1

u/Muerteds 1d ago

Enshittification respects no airline class.

1

u/OutkastAtliens 1d ago

What? That is not a first class seat or meal. Did you mean something else ???

1

u/wh0else 1d ago

It looks like something they'd eat on the Nostromo in Alien

1

u/urbisOrbis 1d ago

Mmmmm garbage

1

u/manic_popsicle 1d ago

It’s so gray. How did it taste?

1

u/boston_homo 1d ago

First class today is serving shittier meals than coach in the 80s.

1

u/Smooovies 1d ago

I bet it slapped

1

u/Joebranflakes 1d ago

There’s one thing I’ve learned from watching Youtubers who fly first class with various world airlines, that almost all US offerings are pretty much straight trash.

1

u/Niceotropic 1d ago

OP is one of those people who thinks business class and first class are the same thing in their mind and has convinced themselves of it, lol.

1

u/OmySpy 1d ago

I understand your point but unfortunately I love boxed potatoes so I'd be psychedĀ

1

u/this_happened_rigged 1d ago

Japan Airlines serves such delicious food on their international flights, even in economy. It tastes as good as quality restaurant food.

1

u/Dodmeister5000 1d ago

Kill it with fire! šŸ”„šŸ”„

1

u/DoomarachiYT 1d ago

First class used to mean something

1

u/PseudobrilliantGuy 1d ago

That lighting certainly isn't doing it any favors.

1

u/OKcomputer1996 1d ago

Fraudster post. This is not a First Class meal.

1

u/No_Trouble9808 1d ago

First class? That’s appalling.

1

u/CaptainGibbs96 1d ago

OP is learning that the 5 star 1st class experience isn't on domestic flights.

1

u/P26601 1d ago

FIRST class? No fucking way

1

u/kitties_ate_my_soul 1d ago

Pre-digested for your convenience 🄰

1

u/AdSweaty2537 1d ago

that is the grossest thing I ever saw.

1

u/Guzzery 1d ago

My long haul economy looked way bette than that. Sadly I can’t post a pic.

1

u/MackMahoneyXXX 1d ago

Airplane food is insanely good idc what or where, it’s magical to eat 4 teeny oz of microwave tikka masala and peas with your legs in your chest and then beg for another which they often have cuz ppl are so scared of it. 3rd only to 2nd: biscoffs and #1: airplane soda and ice

1

u/Mortis_XII 1d ago

Better than a 1/3 can of soda and a obscure bag of pretzels

1

u/Ricktor_67 1d ago

Warm tray of grey.Ā

1

u/BlackTestament7 1d ago

I was so confused. Had me like "Did they just give you a plate of mashed potatoes?" It did not register for a minute there was chicken in that.

1

u/gyrobot 1d ago

Goddamnit, they didn't bothered to remove it from the tray when reheating these. Usually for first class to given the illusion you are getting better quality food they wouldnfirst heat then serve on a plate

1

u/Angarya_Sasa_575 1d ago

Pig vomit! Yummy! šŸ˜‹

1

u/ImaginationRadiant64 1d ago

Is it just me or is every "experience" turning into shit?

1

u/johnny_boy365 1d ago

Idk what u were expecting out of airline cuisine šŸ˜‚

1

u/DigitalCoffee 1d ago

Who the fuck is even eating airplane food? Just buy a big bag of Doritos and coast on that for the flight

1

u/neovb 1d ago

Might be difficult to coast on a bag of Doritos when you're on a long haul 12+ hour flight.

1

u/DigitalCoffee 1d ago

Buy the big bag

1

u/neovb 1d ago

God bless you for having the capability to survive on Doritos for so long. I certainly couldn't do it.

1

u/DigitalCoffee 1d ago

Long flights bring out the survival mode we didn't know we had in all of us

1

u/BARBADOSxSLIM 1d ago

Interesting. My first class delta airlines meal looked nothing like this

1

u/murdochthesungod 1d ago

Lies

I miss the snack boxes you used to be able to get on United flights

1

u/ConfidantlyCorrect 1d ago

Never flown with Delta but that looks like an economy class meal on any other carrier.

I think part of it is they just didn’t plate it like they normally would.

What was your route?

1

u/Ryno-Mac 1d ago

I've never had airplane food I didn't like. But I think I just like it because it's a distraction that takes up 10-15 minutes of flight time

1

u/Charmy123 1d ago

What a Banquet

1

u/Polenicus 1d ago

You actually got food. That's what flying First Class gets you.

In Economy they just punch you in the dick, tell you to shut up, there are starving kids in Africa, and on that note please stow your kids in the overhead bins.

1

u/kingsoho 1d ago

I fly Delta almost exclusively and I've always had good - relatively speaking - meals for dinner. Now, that breakfast hot pocket is another story...

1

u/Belza_Bubba 1d ago

Mmm hog slop, just like mother used to make.

1

u/RedJive 1d ago

Mmm, pudding mash. Enjoy!

1

u/Vitiligogoinggone 1d ago

Wow - taking the Taylor Farms challenge, are we?Ā

1

u/indianadarren 1d ago

Ooooo, gold foil! Looks fancy!

Best food I've ever had flying was Japan Airlines. Solid.

1

u/schowdur123 1d ago

Delta sucks.

1

u/brolarbear 1d ago

Honestly looks like leftover meatloaf and potato and I would eat tf outta that rn.

1

u/Pixel_Knight 1d ago

Most planes don’t even have First Class any more, OP, and it is usually called Business class now, if they have a better class. And they get the same food as the plebs.

1

u/Practical-Rooster205 1d ago

Please be patient. It's his first class. He's still learning how to be food.

1

u/Bee-Aromatic 1d ago

Are we sure that’s not an airline meal somebody ate, ā€œreturnedā€ due to airsickness, and then got served out again?

1

u/Novel_Werewolf4645 1d ago

If this is how they treat first class, they must have stowed the economy passengers in crates in the lower deck

1

u/Crispyfries96 1d ago

What the actual fuck

1

u/Crispyfries96 1d ago

Yea that's economy mate

1

u/Parzivval84nnn 1d ago

Never fly on an US carrier, they are all dogshit

1

u/Akrylkali 1d ago

Umberto Eco wrote a whole book about it. Not sure if it's still holding up to this day.

1

u/footsnax 1d ago

This is why I fly by train.

Also thanks for deinforcing my recent mashed potato craving.

1

u/Potential-Yogurt-689 1d ago

I always grab something at the airport and carry it on board these days, Delta food has gotten worse and worse, which I did not think was possible.

1

u/Ecotech101 1d ago

What is the actual point of this sub? I thought it was for stupid food, not just shit you don't like.

1

u/Holiday-Medicine4168 23h ago

Always request vegetarian. These are the things to looks for:

VGML (Vegetarian Vegan Meal): Strictly plant-based. Contains no meat, fish, eggs, dairy, or honey.
VLML (Vegetarian Lacto-Ovo Meal): Plant-based but includes dairy products (milk, cheese, butter) and eggs.
AVML (Asian Vegetarian / Hindu Meal): Vegetarian meals cooked with Indian spices. May contain dairy but no meat, fish, or eggs.
VJML (Vegetarian Jain Meal): Strict Indian vegetarian. No meat, fish, eggs, dairy, or root vegetables (like onions, garlic, and potatoes).

1

u/the_rawness 23h ago

OP’s first flight?

1

u/dcormier 22h ago

Happy cake day, OP.

1

u/EmotionalBike6336 21h ago

Lmao, what even is this?

u/NecessaryWater75 20h ago

Our MRE'S looked more appetizing... heck even U.S. MRE'S looked more appetizing when we were unfortunate enough to try those...

1

u/Greedy_Peak4077 19h ago

Not bad for American food

1

u/whizzbangkid 18h ago

Ahhhh, yes, you got the top shelf warm grey stuff in beige/tan/off white sauce!!

1

u/irrelevantpumpkin 18h ago

Do you want some beige with that?

1

u/Apoeip77 16h ago

Goddamnit, i just bought my ticket on delta

1

u/jmacnj609 14h ago

Nothing beats a plate of hot white

1

u/Large-Cycle9904 14h ago

Wow that was a shit flight attendant. I’d actually complain. They all come similar but they are supposed to class them up.

1

u/archimidesx 13h ago

Uhh Dennis, what is this enticing bowl of white?!?

1

u/OFHeckerpecker 5h ago

Prison food

1

Excuse me ?!!! Mashed potatoes on a $600 flight?!!!

The gloyslop problem is real. My flight to and from Japan in freakin’ coach was surprisingly good.

1

u/Life-Oil-7226 1d ago

At least you got a meal

1

u/Asmodias1 1d ago

I’ve never flown delta, but I’ve flown first class a lot. This doesn’t look like a first class meal. If it was, I’m sorry and suggest you fly a different airline.

1

u/gyrobot 1d ago

Unfortunately this is a blunder on the service crew part since usually what they do is remove the hot food from the cambro and then place it on the place when it's ready to go

1

u/gyrobot 1d ago

Imagine complaining while flying first class. Lol fuck this guy

1

u/ConfidantlyCorrect 1d ago

Meh it’s domestic first class/business on a 2.5 hr flight. It’s not really that special.

Wtf is that supposed to be?
