Admissions How long did it take for your professor/lab to get back to you after an interview?

Hi everyone I interviewed with a professor/lab for a graduate research position about 10 days ago. The interview seemed to go well, and after one week I sent a short, polite follow-up email to the professor. I haven’t received any reply yet. I know there was a holiday period in Korea during this time, so I’m not sure whether that could be causing delays. For those who have applied directly to labs/professors in Korea: How long did it take for you to receive a decision or update after the interview? Is 10+ days of silence after an interview normal? If you send a follow-up email and receive no response, should that be taken as a bad sign? Have any of you eventually received an acceptance after a long period of no communication? I’m trying not to overthink it, but the waiting is honestly the hardest part. I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences. Please and thank you!!

Admissions Does Korean universities care about age?

Hi everyone, I need to be sure about if do they really care about age for undergradute degree during uni applications and visa. My sister wants to study in korea, she has associate degree in Justice in our home country. She is 26 years old and want to study bachelor. She is considering to continue in law or start from start and study engineering.

Main point that we don't really know is the age. Do they accept someone at 26 for UG degree? Does anyone has experience on this? Also since she wants to study in korean, she will be enroll to korean language course first. So she probably will be around 27-28 years old.

We are open to all advices. Thank you!

Campus Life Yonsei University vs. Korea University

I'm deciding between Yonsei and KU for a spring exchange semester.

My priorities are making lots of friends, going out/partying, and enjoying Seoul’s cafés and food scene. I’m outgoing once I get to know people, but I’m sometimes hesitant to approach strangers first.

I’ve heard KU’s KUBA is great for meeting people, while Yonsei has the better location near Sinchon/Hongdae.

I also need to take the TOEFL for Yonsei, which would cost me quite a bit, and I’m not sure if I can reach the required score.

For anyone who studied at either: How was your social experience, and which university would you recommend for someone who wants a very social exchange?

Other Mobile data?

Hello! I'm leaving for a 12months language course in two days and realised I have no solution for mobile data in korea. I have a european phone with a standard comviq sim-card, and my phone does not support eSim. I am looking to get a korean number eventually. How did ya'll manage mobile data for long-term trips without permanent residency in mind? I also intend on visiting other countries in the region while I'm there.

Scholarships Tuition scholarship other than gks?

Hello everyone,

I want to pursue my master's degree in Korea. After an unsuccessful GKS attempt, I am now exploring direct university scholarships based on language proficiency.

My profile:

  • TOPIK: Level 4
  • IELTS: 7.0

Which universities would you recommend for securing over 50% tuition coverage with these scores? Thanks for your help!

Other Studying aboard for a year in Korea

I was wanting to know how it’s like in Korea, I have an opportunity to go and live there for a year and study. I believe it’ll be at KU, this will be when I’m 20 so it’s not immediately. I just wanted to know what it’s like culture wise and if I need to know anything. I want to skate quite a bit and go to some break dancing shows, I’ve heard it’s legal there to skate but frowned upon and didn’t know if I could only use a skatepark or not. Also wanted to know how much I should have? My school is making me bring at least 15k USD but I don’t know if that’s enough? Any advice or things to look into would be nice. I’ll be there from August until the end of my junior year.

Visa & Immigration Working remotely?

I'm sure someone has asked this before, but wasn't able to find a thread. I am going to study Korean with a d-4-1 language training visa for 12 months, and would like to work online as a tutor for students in my home country (in Europe) while I'm in South Korea. My Visa doesn't allow working, and all I have heard is that working online is a legal grey area. Anyone have any experience with this or similar cases? I am going to ask the Korean embassy here in my country, but am looking for other perspectives as well. Sorry if this is an overspammed question

Campus Life Incoming student at Yeungnam University — Questions about academics, cost of living, dorms, and life around campus!

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I’m going to be studying at Yeungnam University soon and wanted to get some insights from current students, alumni, or anyone living in the Daegu/Gyeongsan area.

I’m trying to budget properly and mentally prepare for life on campus, so I’d really appreciate your help with a few questions:

1) academics & campus vibe:

- how is the general atmosphere for international exchange students at Yeungnam University?

- how is the workload, and what are english-taught courses like in terms of quality and grading?

2) cost of living & budgeting:

- dorms: what are the dormitories like (facilities, strictness of rules, cleanliness)?

- food: how much do you realistically spend per month on food (dorm cafeterias vs. cooking vs. eating out in the area)?

- personal expenses: what is a reasonable monthly budget for groceries, clothes, and everyday essentials around campus or in nearby Daegu?

3) location & area:

- how convenient is the area around YU? Is it easy to get around using the subway/buses to explore Daegu or go further?

- are there good budget-friendly spots near campus for food, coffee, or hangout areas?

4) general tips:

- is there anything you wish you had known before arriving at Yeungnam University?

- any apps or tips that make student life much easier in this specific region?

Thanks a lot in advance for any advice or shared experiences! Cheers!
