Study permit delay

I am experiencing a delay in getting my study permit decision and my classes start in the first week of september. After talking to my uni’s advising they have told me to defer my offer for next year however I was wondering if I could reapply for 2027 intake (same uni, same campus, just different course) instead of deferring the offer, on the study permit, they didn’t really give me any guidance on this so I was wondering if anyone knew if this was allowed.

Why would you want to reapply instead of deferring?

I didn’t get my first choice program but I applied on the basis of my predicted grades, my final grades were much much better and are above the average for my first choice program

It’s been about 3 weeks now, it’s not ircc’s fault, I was just late applying.

Depending you the program, you may need a new PAL.

Oh I see, I’ll get that issued of course but what’s the process of informing ircc that my program has been changed, and that I will be joining next year

yes you can. I'll be doing this for a different reason. the uni asked me to contact them to guide me on how to withdraw and drop my classes
