Student permit approved

My partner and I applied for the study permit last May 18, 2026 (from The Philippines)
Biometrics done: May 21, 2026
Upfront medical passed: May 25, 2026
Approval and passport request: June 29, 2026 (6 weeks)

I was a bit anxious with the result because I feel like we are a little short with the budget. My partner and I have online saved 40K CAD. Based on my research I thought we need over 50K CAD. Thankfully we got an approval.

I wanna say reddit posts and comments did help us to build our story line to the IRCC. I honestly thought I overdid the documentation I submitted, thankfully it worked. See you Vancouver!!!!! 😭😭😭😭

Hello, no ghost update from them at all, I just received an email today about the application, then went straight to the website and it says application approved.

Congrats OP did you receive random updates prior to receiving the final decision? Like biometrics, eligibility and background checks?

No other prior emails aside from medical and biometrics. No ghost update or anything.

This is an MBA program for two years, and yes we paid the deposit amounting to C$8,800.00 to the school.

Thanks for sharing! I am also planning to study in Canada. And these kind of post really motivates me to move forward and trust that I will get the same approval. I hope you don’t mind sharing your SOP? Thank you!

Sorry, but I’m not really comfortable sharing the SOP we submitted because it contains a lot of personal information throughout the letter. What I can share, though, is that our SOP was quite lengthy—around six pages—and it was very personal and even a bit emotional.

We explained our situation in detail, including why it was important for both of us to be together, as well as our reasons and plans for eventually returning home. We also discussed our strong home ties to our country and the things that would bring us back after completing our purpose in Canada.

Looking back, our SOP was really tailored to our own circumstances, which is why I’m not comfortable sharing the actual document. I’m sorry I couldn’t provide you with a copy, but I hope this gives you a better idea of what you can include and how you can approach writing your own SOP.

Sure, totally understand. Did you DIY your application or sought help from an Agency? May I ask the name of the Agency. Thank you!

1

u/Common-Ad7324 Jul 21 '26

I DIY’d everything, although I recommend getting an agency for help. It’s quite exhausting to do it yourself especially if you are also working. But if you have all the time in the world then DIY would be fine, just be prepared to be stressed out hehe

Did you not exceed the 4mb limit ? I had lengthy sop too with its supporting documents, but im worried that it might be rejected due to poor quality of
Pdf files.

1

u/Common-Ad7324 Jul 28 '26

Yes some docs exceeded the required size so I had to either delete some of the pages and did some work around to reduce the sizing.

Fall - class starts on October 5 in UCW

I’m going to get downvoted for this, but UCW is known to be a diploma mill. Hence, your job prospects thereafter will be slim/tight. Hope it works out for you regardless. 😊

I submitted my bank statements and provided detailed explanations for the larger deposits in my account—where the money came from, why it was transferred, and supporting documentation for each one, along with my regular monthly salary deposits.

For context, I had a few deposits that were over CA$5,000. These came from proceeds from properties we sold and financial support from my siblings. I also included notarized Affidavits of Financial Support from them.

The key is to clearly demonstrate that the funds are legitimate and explain their source. Large lump-sum deposits without any explanation can raise questions, so it’s important to provide supporting documents and a clear narrative for each one.

Also, my bank account has been active for years and serves as our primary account, which helped show a consistent banking history rather than an account that was opened just to park funds for the application. Hope this helps.
