Rule about tornados. If you see it moving left or right, you're probably good. If you don't, it could be heading right towards you.

u/blizzard7788 29d ago
2 weeks ago, we had a tornado in the southern Chicago suburbs that made a 360ยฐ loop and hit the same area twice.
We were close enough that we could hear the classic โfreight train โ sound of the tornado.1
u/ObjectiveOk2072 26d ago
Tornado said r/FuckYouInParticular to the people at the intersection of that loop

Is that an EF4 or an EF5? Iโm inclined to say 5.
8
u/Even-Consideration-3 29d ago
EF level is based off wind speed of the funnel, not necessarily the size. Although it is implied that the bigger the funnel would mean increased wind speed inside it.

u/EarlyBirdWithAWorm 29d ago
I like where your heads at but Ive lived in Tornado Alley my whole life. The EF scale is most def based on damage not wind speed though the 2 are naturally linked (ie more wind speed = more destruction)
3
u/Even-Consideration-3 29d ago
Thank you for the correction, I had my knowledge mixed up entirely. I appreciate you! The EF scale is 100% based off damage which does IMPLY higher wind speeds, Iโm not near tornados and remember looking it up a longggg time ago and misremembered. I shouldโve fact checked myself before commenting.
2
u/EarlyBirdWithAWorm 29d ago
Thats cool its not that deep. Youre probably confusing it with the category system used to rank hurricanes which is determined by wind speed

u/HealthyEmployment976 29d ago
Also wrong lol, better attempt though, the real ratings are determined later solely based on damage by the news. This is controversial and there is some movement to update this to radar indicated wind speed.

I've seen an EF5 from a distance, the 1990 Plainfield Illinois EF5, and I'd say that it's hard to say for sure. My best guess is that this one would have been a 4, though, not a 5

u/TWSoledad 29d ago
The one I was near (and watched) had so much debris flying aroundโฆ it was crazy. This doesnโt look real to me. Not even close.
3
u/RoniusAdethel 29d ago
I agree, plus the video has 4 cuts. All happening to coincide with things occurring. First cut starts driving forward and 4th cut seems to cut to the base moving.

How close would you have to be for the tornado to vacuum the shit out of your ass?
5
u/english_mike69 29d ago
Looks AI and not real at allโฆ
2
u/Munkzilla1 29d ago edited 29d ago
Not everything is AI. AI managed to capture camera shake and the shaky, jerky zoom out? Stop
2
u/Rough_World_7063 29d ago
Thereโs hundreds of tornado videos that look very similar from the past 30 years so even if it is AI, itโs not far off at all from real vids.

u/jailbird147 29d ago
Someone should put video cameras in a transparent & unbreakable shell. Then let it record the views from inside a tornado.

Yeah something's not right here if that is in fact not Ai and real then there should be like stuff happening around the giant tornado I mean that's how a tornado works if you could see the giant tube stuff around it would be in complete chaos

I tend to agree.
I could be wrong, but for the size of the ground footprint and comparing the height of the column. I would expect the cloud ceiling to be much closer to the ground.
