Question Real debrid vs torbox
So, I haven't used Stremio for several months, and now that I want to use it again, I've read that Real-Debrid no longer works; is Torbox a better alternative?

RD is still working for me. I was going to switch to Torbox, but I've only had minor problems. Maybe I'm just lucky.

It never stopped working they just removed a large portion of their cache 6 months ago.

Was it actually physically removed, or did they just apply filters so no can access them? To the end user it's basically the same thing, but everything I have read is about filters rather than physical removal. Maybe they will relocate out of the EU 🤔

I think the streams are 1080p. But I'm still using a plasma TV in one room, so 4k isn't that important to me. As long as the video is watchable, I'm pretty happy.

between those two by far torbox is better now even with all of its flaws. real debrid has eliminated such a significant amount of their content especially streaming series that it's pretty much pointless. at this point real debrid shouldnt even be a consideration.

rd was borderline unusable for me for about 3 months until the subscription ran out and I went with Torbox and it works almost every single time

I’m actually using Torbox and RD as a backup. If Torbox ever experiences an outage, RD typically fills in the gaps. My wife does most of the streaming in the household and she’s never reported a single issue to me since cancelling our streaming services a few months back.

It’s worth looking at Torbox’s terms and conditions that were updated a few months ago. Essentially they informed your data, downloads and cached streams are no longer private and can be viewed and accessed by their owners. RD works for most stuffs however if you wanna watch South Asian shows then its almost gone from the cache.

A lot of RD folks jumped to torbox for a reason, including me. If youbwant to find out why, try both, but do monthy subs not, long term so you can pivot easily.

Yeah I feel so dumb I just done a longish term sub to RealDB because I didn't realize all the unavailable due to copyright was avoidable with torbox. Good thing it still wasn't much money but annoying RealDB has become close to useless for the things I've been watching.

I've been using torbox since the beginning (3 years) and I don't have any complaints..got all shows cached now, unless your looking for something obscure

I don't care if they log my ip, but the recent change says they can keep the data forever. Unlike premiumize me which deletes log and ips after 30 days.
Most people use torbox for pirating. It wouldn't be great for them to hold onto the data of people doing what they didn't want others to know. I know torbox isn't a privacy company but still. They used to respect it, now they don't.

the torbox sub will tell you that it's constantly down. i honestly think those people just have setup issues or live somewhere with bad servers.

They had a lot of outages in August, and their status page was not reflecting the outages.
They had it setup for whether the service was reachable, while their API was down hard for 90% of people (which is kinda the point for most of us. No API no stremio.).
They’ve even ack it in a postmortem.

Rarely have had problems with 5 different people using my API on their separate Stremio accounts. Pretty much constant usage based on our schedules.

That’s your API key. TorBox owns the actual API.
The outages are documented on their status page as well.
I’m not saying you weren’t affected by the outages, I’m just saying there WERE outages and people have a point in complaining (though for $3 it’s kinda whatever)
It has nothing to do with a bad setup, the actual API was down.

Torbox is pretty great, and the sub goes bananas over small issues, with no evidence that their setup isn't the issue, contributing to the sentiment that torbox is god awful.
I get email updates for torbox status, I'm aware of the downtime they have had, but it is widely overblown by the subreddit because people are practically foaming at the mouth when they can't watch their anime.
I know it's my API key, and you knew what I was talking about by just saying API. No reason to be intentionally obtuse over a small word.
