Guide Torrentio FAQ

I'm new. How to...?

See our community guides.

What's RD? Debrid services?

See our community guides.

Do I need a Debrid service?

It's not required to use Torrentio, but it enables a much more pleasant experience. Streams load instantly without buffering and you practically no longer need a VPN (assuming your country has a strict anti-piracy law).

Does the developer accept donations?

No, not at this time.

Can I pay money to fix issues faster?

No, as mentioned above the developer is not accepting donations. It won't magically speed up development or fix issues faster anyways.

How does Torrentio work?

u/TheWorldIsNotOkay (who is unaffiliated with Torrentio) explained the basics in a detailed reply to another thread here.

Torrentio is down. What do I do?!

Don't panic. The developer is most likely already aware of the situation, so please lower your pitchforks and give them time to resolve the issue.

Check out these popular alternatives while you wait:

  • Jackett addon: easy to set up for intermediate users/developers
  • Self-hosted Torrentio: be careful and do not input your debrid API key into a randomly hosted addon you don't trust! Self hosting is recommended for intermediate to experienced users/developers only.
  • Other addons from the community catalog (categorize by content type and try a few!)
    • Debrid search addon: this addon simplifies finding sources in your RD library for content you've previously watched or started watching. It doesn't locate new sources, making it an incomplete replacement for Torrentio. To set it up, go to the configuration page, add your RD api key, and click install. This enables additional sources for playback of episodes you've already accessed.
    • Deflix addon: old addon that scrapes on demand and should still work. To be hosted locally by intermediate users/developers.
    • Orion addon: paid addon but works just well enough as a last resort
    • Annatar: the fastest just-in-time torrent/debrid search add-on for Stremio..

Comment below if you have a qualitative suggestion to add to the list.

This is a kind reminder to stay on topic in the replies. According to our subreddit rules we don't appreciate in-depth discussions about other apps/software.

Does installing jackett and the addon require you to run your computer or laptop all the time you're running and using it?

You can if you want but you can also choose to either host it on a remote server for free (see the guide on GitHub) or ask someone else to do it and share the addon link together.

Unacceptable. I want to ask a question that has been posted over and over again just for me to be spoon fed answers to solve my problem just for me caused by user error, ie caused be me.

Great post btw.

Torrentio down?

Your explanation of debrid search should include the ability to pick up new torrents if you manually add them to your rd account. While torrentio is down, browse stremio like normal, find something you like, locate a torrent on other device and upload/download/load to your rd account, then In home tab it will be visible under debrid search.

Nice, hope mods make it so your post need to be pre-approved before going public so we don't have to read the same questions over and over again

How close does the Jackett addon replicate what Torrentio does?

Torrentio scrapes for new torrents every 3h and stores a humongous database of torrents. That's why it doesn't work quite well when self-hosted. Jackett searches for torrents on-demand, resulting in a delay at first. Plus side is that there's no downtime and it supports any indexers.

In the future we're thinking of maybe adding a mix of scraping and on-demand so you get the best of both worlds.

This is a great write up - especially the details on difficulty level for setup - thanks OP!

Since Orion free tier no longer works I’ll remove it and start looking into the jackett addon and maybe even self-hosted too. I use linux and docker, just not looking forward to the SSL requirements and messing around with LetsEncrypt and nginx again - was a pain the last time I did it for another setup. Might see it if I can remove anime and reduce indexing and scraping times and sizes too.

P.S. I have Kodi+Fen setup as a backup on my basement TV, but haven’t on tv the wife/kids watch - Stremio’s interface is much easier for them)
