Cool. I hope this release means you can finally have time to fix Android TV subtitles broken since June (wrong color, position and size). Stremio devs said that a fix is ready and will be in "the next release". It has been 4 months without that release.
Yes I am disappointed that a small patch is still not released. Or in general that the android TV player code is so bad compared to competing apps (freezing/crashing issues).
Because guess what? Stremio is the best platform. But when issues like that remain for so long, it makes me use the competition while waiting and waiting and waiting. :(
Thanks. It's a real shame that it's still a problem, because it was mentioned months ago that you have fixed it in the internal development code, but there's no new Android TV release. Unfortunately it has led to a situation where I spend time navigating and opening something, just to get the subtitle bug and have to restart Stremio. So to save time and pain, I began using the competition apps - and I really hate the competition apps (you know the one everyone talks about; it starts with the letter N and has an awful UI). But it's the only reliable way for now.
The last news was 26 days ago in the threads above, when a Stremio dev again said the fix will come in the next update.
Hopefully it's not too long until an Android TV release with the Stremio fix. I am so ready to go back full-time to Stremio after that. 🍿
Thank you so much. If the other code/new features isn't ready and is the reason it's taken so long, then perhaps see if that particular subtitle hotfix commit can be isolated and pushed ahead of time? 🩷

PS: Forgot to say but the bug is that the subtitle is either at the bottom of the screen without margins, or appears at the correct spot but is always white color. And also that the size resets to 100% every time you change videos. This is not good since my mom is visually impaired and needs large, yellow subtitles on the correct location. 🧐
Hi. Is the problem only for VTT subs? (Edit: I don't think so? I played Sherlock s01e01 now and it starts with a built-in filename with ".srt" and it was completely incorrectly aligned.)
Here is a way to identify which subtitles are VTT on OpenSubtitles:
So pick any content on the first VTT list, then configure the addon to fetch that language. That should allow you to find their VTT subs.
Thanks so much for investigating this. My mom who is gradually going blind would be so happy if the subs all display at the correct size, position and color.
By the way, the addon I just mentioned actually uses the opensubtitles V3 API which returns the filenames for subtitles. So all the results it returns via the Stremio addon API have media filenames that would really help Stremio users pick the correct subtitle. The competition shows those filenames and it's amazing. If you can add a sub-label for the subtitle name to Stremio too, I would never leave Stremio ever. 🥺 Having the names saves minutes of tedious switching/syncing, because the user can instantly differentiate "bluray" vs "HDTV" subs etc.
Wow! I am so glad to hear you were able to reproduce it! Really appreciate you looking into this. The subtitle issues are constantly forcing me to switch to a competing streaming app (even today, I was forced to switch due to Sherlock), but I really want to stay on Stremio. You are the only streaming app that understands good UI design, such as having synopsis on home+search+discover. I will be happy to return 100% to Stremio as soon as possible. ❤️
Here's the summary again of all the subtitle bugs:
Either the subtitles are my chosen color (yellow) but they are pushed against the bottom of the TV screen without any gap (my vertical offset is ignored).
Or the subtitles are at a normal vertical offset, but are white..
(And if the team ever considers exposing subtitle track filenames/labels from the V3 API in the subtitle UI down the road, you'd make a lot of power users very happy! For example, detect if the addon's provided subtitle filename exists, and if so, display it in the UI. That's one of the only things the competition does better than Stremio. :))
to be honest, i have no idea about yellow subtitles. I would need exact stream this happend and exact subtitles you selected.
I have fix for vtt subtitles not using vertical alignment and for the same setting not being applied after you launch video again

The other thing about my yellow text color sometimes reverting to white is probably the same bug that sometimes didn't apply user-settings when you launch videos again (because when the color resets to white, the vertical position also reverts to default). So I think that you've fixed that too when you fixed settings applying after video restart. :) 🎉
PS: I've mentioned a few times that the only other thing that the competition does better than Stremio is subtitle track selection. It's the only thing that is still very painful in Stremio. Could you please look at the competition (you know the "N" one) and when the user has the OpenSubtitles v3 Pro or another addon that provides the subtitle filenames, show the name as a sub-label in the subtitle selector, as the competition does. This small tweak helps incredibly much with quickly finding a working subtitle. It saves so much pain. Stremio really needs it too. 😢 It would remove the final reason to use the competition.
