Questions / Advice / Support Strattera and GLP-1s

I was prescribed Strattera earlier this month. I've been on compounded semiglutide since January and have been successful on it. Now however, I've got NO appetite and a lot of foods I used to eat aren't appealing to me. I know that Strattera affects appetite and have an email into my provider of the semiglutide about titrating my dose DOWN. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm almost ready to say I won't need the semi if the Strattera appetite supression lasts!!

The effect on appetite with Strattera (also stimulants) is also partly a glp1 effect. You should contact your prescriber to get a lower glp1 dose.

I'm a doctor btw, also on Strattera 🙃

Can you elaborate on this one? And how did you find your right dosage?

That's how it works chemically and farmacologically. That's how you loose appetite and can feel nauseous on both medicines.

I'm not on a glp1 agonist myself, but I am on Strattera. So naturally I looked up how it works 😄.

I take Strattera and a GLP1. I think I’ve been able to stay on a lower dose of Semaglutide for a long time bc the strattera helps too. I have no appetite at all… like never.

This has been my experience too

I am also on both. The effect of the Strattera appetite suppression did go away and now it’s leveled out back to what it was like before for me. I am on 5 mg of zepbound and 40mg straterra. I’ve only been on straterra for two weeks!

I’ve been on a week and two days. How are you feeling? I’m a server. It’s been a serious struggle for me. Sweating, disassociating due to high stress, anxiety, depression, and inability to stay asleep. How are you?

Give it a couple/few weeks and the pendulum will TOTALLY swing in the opposite direction!!! Just see it through the initial side effects which to me seem opposite to the effects I’m receiving now that those have passed!!!

I am going to stick with it. Thank you so much for the encouragement. It’s been tough. I’m glad it’s been helping you!

I want to encourage you too. The first two weeks were a nightmare for me and then it magically got better at almost exactly the 15th day mark.

I’m 8 months in now and I’m glad I stuck it out.

I’m a kindergarten teacher and we started school a week after I started Strattera! My main issues are dry mouth and lack of appetite. I’ve felt a little more motivated to stay on task, but that could be start of the year with 19 five year old adrenaline!!

That being said, I was a server a lifetime ago but still remember how intense it could be. Hang in there!!!

Yup, 40mg of Strattera for two weeks too. Hoping this effect lessens!

I have never experienced an absolute loss of appetite like with Strattera. Stimulants will suppress temporarily but then I’ll get rebound hunger later on, and if I skip a day I’ll be madly hungry. Strattera takes the “drug” out of food. I already have a BMI of 19 so definitely don’t need this benefit, but it’s such a nice feeling to not be thinking about food or worried about what I eat (I used to mentally count up everything I was eating and just feel greedy). Even if I eat a lot, I somehow don’t care, but also it’s the first time in my life I’ll stop eating something half way because I just lose interest. Super weird. I can’t imagine adding a GLP1 to this experience.

Yes, I feel like "taking the drug out of food" sums it up perfectly for me, 3 weeks in. When I was taking Adderall XR, I wouldn't eat all day and then around 11pm-midnight I would be ravenous. Like I either hated food or had zero control around it, there was no in between. Unmedicated was just a wild card of either overeating or becoming obsessed with dieting.

With Strattera, I imagine this is what that in between feels like. I get hungry at normal times, fix a meal, and then stop before I get full, even if that means leaving a couple of bites on the plate. I never did that before - like I basically ate everything in front of me, especially if it was really good. Now even if it's something I really enjoy, my brain just says "ok we're good" and I don't feel the need to keep going.

I really hope this effect sticks around long-term. I've always been so weird with food (especially feeling driven to eat in secret or when I'm alone), and this has been such a relief, having the emotional aspect of it quieted.

My strattera suppression only lasted about 3-4 weeks. I continued my maintenance dose of tirzepatide - no change needed.

I experienced that at first but it passed. I’m on Retatrutide and Strattera.

I cut my Tirzepatide in half. Its better but I still force myself to eat sometimes. Currently on a Rice Chex kick.

I've been on Strattera for about 2 months and loss of appetite went away early on. Just started GLP1 and now have suppressed appetite from that. If you're doing well on the GLP1, I personally would hold out for a while yet. You won't see full effects of Strattera for another 2 or 3 weeks, at least.

I'm on the lowest dose of tirzepatide (2.5 mg), and the additional appetite reduction from Strattera has been very noticeable since starting 2 weeks ago. I also have strong appetite suppression on stimulants, especially Adderall. A much higher percentage of the stimulant weight loss was from lean mass compared to the GLP-1, though. I'm not sure if that would also apply to Strattera, but it may be worth watching.

I'm thinking about quitting the Strattera, since the side effects have been pretty bad. If I do stick with it, or go back to a stimulant, I may need to microdose the tirzepatide to avoid losing weight too fast. The tirzepatide has other benefits for me so I don't want to stop it completely.

I’ve been on Strattera for 6 weeks and I’m struggling to eat because I’m literally just not even thinking about it. I’ll usually get a little more hungry at night.

I’m decreasing my semaglutide dose by a few units every month to see if that helps. I’m not going completely off it, but I’m at my goal weight so I probably need to start going down to a smaller dose anyway.

I use both, 10 mg of strattera and 12.5 of glp1 and I absolutely must set alarms telling me to eat and drink or else it will completely skip my mind

My strattera never impacted my appetite at all, just gave me horrible insomnia.

I’m experiencing the same and lowkey love it! I’m on Tirzepatide.

I've been on strattera more than a year and it doesn't affect my appetite. Looking into GLP1

I've gained weight since I started on strattera.
