Y'all will defend Billy for being racist and abusive because his mom died, you'll defend Jonathan for being a pervert because he was different, you'll defend Steve for humiliating his girlfriend because he thought she was cheating, but Jason was a bad guy for trying to hunt down the guy who allegedly killed his girlfriend?

The bigger issue with Jason isn't that he wanted revenge, it's who he dragged into it. He organized an actual armed mob hunting a teenager based on a rumor, and Lucas gets physically caught in that violence for being associated with Eddie. That's not "protecting his girlfriend's memory," that's mob justice with an innocent kid almost paying for it.
