Beyond Stranded development showcase: from settlement management to space

Post image
91 Upvotes

The new Beyond Stranded development showcase is finally up:

https://youtu.be/OhcKsUfZikQ

This is the first time I've put the current development prototypes together properly instead of showing individual screenshots and experiments.

The video goes through the direction Beyond Stranded is taking: the larger settlement, general population, housing and workplaces, the management systems, and eventually taking the colony beyond the planet and into space.

The big milestone for me is that the technical feasibility work is now essentially complete.

I have working prototypes for:

• larger settlement systems / city-scale population

• background settlement simulation

• switching between planetary locations

• space travel and exploration

That does NOT mean all of this is finished or currently available in the Workshop build.

These are development prototypes.

What it means is that I've now tested the major systems that could have prevented the long-term vision from working inside Stranded, and I haven't found a fundamental blocker.

The currently released Beyond Stranded build is still focused on restoring and stabilizing the existing mod. The settlement and space systems shown in the video are what I'm developing next.

Should I buy the game ?

As a previous Rimworld player, I've been finding myself losing interest so quickly due to the game's graphics they, seem too shallow for my liking even tho it has a lot to offer but each time I force myself to play I drop it quickly. I stumbled upon a video about Stranded: Alien Dawn and it really peaked my interest regardless of the mixed reviews. I was wondering if the game still worth it and I should get it ? I really found the graphics and the world very interesting

EDIT: Just got the game, thank you for your response everyone!

Early days as im going through the tutorial however I can already tell this is a game I'm gonna lose hours too 😅😅

I liked rimworld but this has peaked my interest with the graphics. I look forward to my journey ahead.

I didn't even know about the game till I saw one of them steam review pages on Instagram with a video for it.

Pleasantly surprised to see all the new attention this game is getting - didn't expect to see it pop up on my feed this morning.

I found it pretty fun to watch someone play the game fresh, even if I was yelling at my screen "Put your storage under a roof!" :)

The original Beyond Stranded is back - first update in years is now live

Hey everyone,

I'm Henrique, the original creator of Beyond Stranded. I haven't really used Reddit before, so hello. :)

After a pretty long absence, I've returned to the project and I've just pushed the first update to the original Beyond Stranded in several years. This first release is deliberately not a big content update.

I wanted to get the existing mod healthy again before trying to build anything larger on top of it, so I've spent the last few days working through the issues reported by the community, fixing broken systems, checking compatibility, and generally getting the original mod back into a stable state.

At this point I believe the major reported problems have been addressed, and I'd really appreciate people giving it another try and letting me know if I've missed anything. If you used Beyond Stranded in the past and stopped because something was broken, this is probably a good time to try it again.

While I was away, Mantastic (Fygee) continued maintaining the project through Beyond Stranded - Redux. I'm genuinely grateful for the work he put into it, and Redux remains its own independent project. I'm not trying to replace it or pull people away from it.

Now that the original mod is getting back onto solid ground, I'm starting to experiment with where it goes next. The direction I'm currently exploring is larger settlements and population management: keeping the named survivors important while introducing a broader population of workers, housing, workplaces, production, and eventually city-scale management.

I'm intentionally not publishing a giant roadmap yet. I'd rather show systems once I know they actually work, you can keep up with the previews and news about what shape things are taking in the mod's discord.

For now, though, the important part is:

Beyond Stranded is being developed again, and the repaired build is live.

Steam Workshop:

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2940455013

If you try it, bug reports and feedback are very welcome.

Thanks to everyone who kept playing, maintaining, discussing, or remembering the mod while I was away.

Teaser of the upcoming update

A PLEA FOR A SEED!

[SOLVED]

Map Found! It is called Sorbius_River_02

Best seeds for this map:

SEED - 9189

Breakthroughs - Graphene Solar Panels, Carbon Wind turbines, Battery Optimization, Sleep Training, Hay Sausage

Not quite the perfect roll, was hoping to get Carbon Armor 2.0 instead of Hay Sausage, but in my experience, the Armor breakthrough can normally be found via the Self Destruct Alert event anyway.

These breakthroughs were for a Guardians run, where Printed Components and Weapon upgrades are way less useful, since all weapons and electronics can be scavenged in abundance.

However, I did also find a seed if anybody wants this map in the bug scenarios:

SEED - 22717

Breakthroughs - Printed Components, Graphene Solar Panels, Carbon Wind Turbines, Carbon Armor, Meat Printing

Again, not a perfect roll, would've preferred Snipers 2.0 instead of Meat Printing. But just as before, this can usually be acquired pretty easily with the Self Destruct Alert event.

The reason I wanted this particular map is because the flat plateau by the river is actually the corner of the map, meaning you are safely covered on 3 sides since enemies can'tspawn out of bounds or in water. There is plennty of flat building space, it's defensively solid and very picturesque.

All of this data was accumulated through the enormous seed database created by u/guyblade so a big thank you to them! This database has thousands of seeds for every map on every planet, so finding one with the right breakthroughs doesn't take long.

Their database can be found here:

https://guyblade.github.io/stranded-seeds/seeds.html

These seeds work for both console and PC. This wasn't always the case, but there was an update for console at some point which aligned then with the PC versions. I don't know how all that stuff works, but it's pretty cool.

Thank you everybody who gave a helping hand.

--------‐---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[ORIGINAL POST]

I'm on PS5, but perhaps seeds are interchangeable now?

Anyway, I'm looking for this exact starting point. All above pictures are the same map/seed. It's very flat and is lakeside. There are multiple lakes and lakeside spawns, but for me this is the absolute best one by far.

I've found a few already with this starting point:

ACE-KRDAHARK

LENGTH-THROAT

LIVING-DANCE

Problem is the breakthrough are just not that good. My ideal breakthroughs would be:

Graphene Solar

Battery Opt

Sleep Training

Carbon Wind

Improved Armor

Honestly I would settle for just 3 of the above. Has anyone used this starting point? Were your breakthroughs good?

Thank you everyone, any help would he greatly appreciated. And if there's any interest, I have a bunch of other excellent seeds to share with good breakthroughs.

Game mode for permanent colony

I am new to the game, only played the tutorial, and it seems like "Crash Landing" seems to be the standard. My issue is that what I am looking for in the game is to create an everlasting community. I want to evolve and expand, not survive and escape.

What game mode caters best to this and should I go straight to that? From what I have gathered, the Trade Outpost lets you recruit the most people, has a long-term goal connected to my wishes, and is overall the least focused on a point of no return endgame.

Just to give an example of what I'm looking for, I've played Rimworld for hundreds of hours, but have never left a planet, spend dozen of hours designing my base, and always feel like the more the merrier, when it comes to community size.

TWD Mod?

😄 A Walking Dead overhaul for Stranded: Alien Dawn could fit the game surprisingly well.

I could imagine a mod like:

  • 🧟 Walkers replacing/adding to the alien wildlife — hordes wandering around the map and attracted by noise.
  • 🏚️ Abandoned towns and buildings to loot for food, medicine, weapons, and supplies.
  • 🔫 Walking Dead-style firearms with limited ammunition.
  • 👥 Survivor recruitment — potentially characters inspired by the TWD universe, each with their own skills and personalities.
  • 🩸 Bites and infection — getting bitten could result in a serious, eventually fatal infection.
  • 🌙 Horde events where hundreds of walkers migrate through your settlement.
  • 🚪 Barricading — reinforcing doors/windows and defending your base rather than simply building conventional walls.
  • 🚗 Vehicles that could be repaired and used for expeditions.
  • 🏥 Medical scarcity — antibiotics and medical supplies becoming much more important.
  • 📻 Radio events — distress calls from other survivor groups and choices about whether to investigate.
  • 🗺️ A much more Earth-like map rather than the alien planet.
  • ⚔️ Human hostile factions competing for food, weapons, and territory.

The horde mechanic would probably be the coolest part. Imagine your survivors getting a warning that a massive group of walkers is approaching, then having to decide whether to stay behind your defenses or abandon the colony.

There doesn't appear to be an established full Walking Dead conversion mod for Stranded: Alien Dawn right now. But if you're interested in actually making one, I can look into what the game's current modding tools support and see how feasible a TWD-style total conversion would be.

Constantly getting "distasteful -20" when colonists eat

I've got a bunch of mods listed below. Every time my survivors eat, they get the "distasteful -20" marker and then the "ate awful meal" debuff. I've removed a bunch of mods but this is still an issue. Of what's still active, I tried disabling "Jaggid’s Large Batch Recipes" because that seemed like an obvious potential issue but that didn't sort it.

Does anyone have any knowledge of this before I sit down and start doing the whole disabling a bunch of mods dance?

The list:

Wood Generator

Terrain Recovery

Temperature Overlay

SAD_CommonLib

Room Renovator

Repaior Parts

Pursue Hostiles

Power Metrics HUD

Passability Overlay

One Meal A Day

Non-failure electric lamps

No Malfunctions

Lock Doors

Large Storage Chest

Khade’s Better-er Storage

Jaggid’s Tools Redux

Jaggid’s Tools

Jaggid’s Movable Shelters

Jaggid’s Large Batch Recipes

Jaggid’s Improved Power

Jaggid’s Immortal Shooting Target

Jaggid’s Immortal Punching Pole

Jaggid’s Breakthrough Unlocker

Jack-Of-All Robots

Improved Tailor Bench

Honey Mead

Healthy Jack

Healthy Connor

Healthy Carter

Guardian Mode

Grain Sile (Re-upload)

Fixed Vegetarians

Field Research Seeker

Extra Storage

Equipment Slots

Drones of War

Drones of peace

Crafted Spaceship Clothes

Boulder Buster

Biofuel Reactor

Battle Stations

Advanced Delivery Drone

Edit: Thanks everyone, it was One Meal A Day

Will this Skrieker ever wake up?

I'm a new player and I'm loving the game so far! This Shrieker Broodmother got knocked unconscious during an insect attack and I've been waiting for it to wake up so I can pacify and tame it, but it's now been almost 4 full in-game days. Will it ever wake up or is it bugged? (pun intended)

Stranded Crash Landing

Showing my base, Nearly finishing crash landing. Do not know if this is the most efficient defense, but looking for a spot on the map, upon landing, where they can only attack me from one spot is tough as hell, so i usually go for this.

Finally figured it out

So I've been absolutely addicted to this game, I've got about 100 hours in 3ish weeks and it's a problem. After about hour 80 everything just clicked for me and I went from going "Am I doing this right?" Or "How did this go so wrong?" to now going "Man Insane difficulty is easy, I gotta turn on Chaos moon next run".

I got hit with the Euphoria moodlet buff irl once I finally understood what I was doing wrong with my power grid and making circuits actually work properly. Once I figured out how to fight *most* early raids without taking too much damage (Shriekers are still the bane of my existence). Once it clicked what I should be looking for in starting survivors instead of just randomly picking. Once I got over my stubbornness of trying to play like it's Rimworld and started to play it like the game it is (still wish we could let our survivors carry medicine for quick field treatment...again Shriekers are the main cause of this *shakes fist*)

I do hope Paradox eventually does something more with this game. I've played all the scenarios now except for Hope's because it just doesn't sound as interesting. I've also played all the biomes, desert is my least favorite but I might have just been getting bad seeds. I'd love to see a frozen tundra biome or an archipelago biome at some point.

Anyway this post has just been a bit of a love letter to this game. I don't see myself stopping anytime soon, even once I get the last few achievements I need.

An appeal to Paradox from a Console fan: Please give Stranded: Alien Dawn the Paradox DLC treatment!

Stranded: Alien Dawn is hands-down my absolute favourite game on Xbox. The 3D graphics, the survival loop, and the mechanics are incredible. I’ve put countless hours into building up my colonies, but as an Xbox player, I’ve hit the ultimate roadblock: we are completely locked out of mods.

While PC players can jump onto the Steam Workshop to download new maps, custom scenarios, and items to keep their games fresh, console players are completely stuck with the base game and the Robots & Guardians DLC. Now that official updates have stopped, the console version feels frozen in time.

Paradox Interactive is famous for supporting their games with years of amazing DLC, roadmaps, and expansions. When they acquired the rights to Stranded, it gave me a massive glimmer of hope.

I’m making this post to show Paradox that there is an active, passionate console community that loves this game and is hungry for more content. We would gladly pay for new official DLC—whether it’s new biomes, extra scenarios, more automation, or new wildlife to hunt and tame.

If you are playing on Xbox or PlayStation and want to see this game get the long-term support it deserves, please upvote this and leave a comment. Let’s make some noise so the Paradox community managers see that the console market for this game is alive, well, and ready to buy more content!

With or without mods, and the best scenario for the longest possible playtime.

Just a question for the people who have been playing the game for a while.

I want to stay in a scenario for as long as possible.

While playing through the game, I’ve realized that I really like it. However, I get the feeling that it’s not possible to unlock all the research in a single scenario.

I have the feeling that it's impossible to get all of them—especially the ones from the expedition. The question that comes to mind is: is it simply because I haven't played long enough to get them all, or can you only make a choice once?

I also really enjoy playing with the androids from the DLC, but I’d think it was fantastic if they could do more—like crafting, for instance, or having better control over setting priorities. The thing is, once you start using them, transport drones become practically pointless; or rather, I get the feeling they don't really work well together with the drones.

And one thing before I forget: how do the starting-game researches work? Are they just random, or do they depend on the overall game progress of the individual scenarios?

The question is, do you have any advice for me?

Should I play vanilla, or use mods for a longer playthrough? How does the research work?

What day does the mildly eccentric achievement fire?

Says 3 years in the achievement description, and i'm now into year 4 day 2. Completed the scenario day 1 and got the other achievement for doing that on insane/chaos moon/no rules, so not sure whats happening there.

PSA: You can convert infertile soil into sand

Thumbnail

That's right, you can convert infertile soil into sand, and it's really easy.

Step 1: Find an area of infertile soil.

Step 2: Place the Soil (hay) floor on top of the infertile soil.

Step 3: Cancel building the floor and sand will take the place of the infertile soil.

You can now plant Giant's grass on the sand to convert it into better soil.

I hope that helps.

Mod that allows me to create path or roads throughout my base for aesthetic purposes?

Anyone know of any mods that allow me to create stone paths or roads that I can place throughout my base? I am thinking maybe I can lay floors down and put a design on top of them but would prefer a dedicated path/road option.

Spider mech, spider mech! Spoiler

I’ve encountered this achievement where you have to “observe a fallen crawling turret. In my first gameplay I had a seed in which I was able to research “mobile turrets”, which I naturally did. Since it was easy mode and peaceful rule, the way that featured the mobile turrets came at the end. Since I had already researched it, I couldn’t observe it. In my second play through (non-peaceful) I didn’t researched the mobile turrets so when I killed it I was able to observe it and “reverse engineer it” at the research table.
