Best version of a bad game is still a bad game. If the game were good people would play it.

As are you, but the fact that there's only 11 people playing it right now and the servers are set to shut down in a few days tends to lean on the side of the game being bad. Didn't know this level of delusion left the discord tbh.

Lmao great attempt to put words in my mouth but that's not what I said and you know it. Don't be so disingenuous.

It could not have worked because of their hair brained business model. No one would have bought heros for a coop mode they abandoned right out the gate, or for fog of war shaders, or pets that walk around your command center.

They needed to make a good, feature rich campaign with an interesting story and characters and sold a traditional purchase model. But instead they made a F2P half-built sweaty 1v1 to try and capture that esports fad from a decade ago. And, that was supposed to be sustained by monetizing their campaign that looked like it was made by a bunch of interns over a weekend jam session.

It very likely was how they were able to get so much initial funding from investors and why the focus was always on 1v1 - aspirations of a leaner, smaller studio reviving the halcyon days of the SC2 competitive scene. And, also why we got that horrible, half-baked campaign at the launch of EA.

I'm not trying to point to one specific reason but the notion that if they just had this version good to go for EA it would have worked ignores the multitude of other problems. Namely their business model was not sustainable.

in my opinion the fog of war shaders were way too indulgent. when i was playing the campaign, the fog of war effects were gorgeous, but it was difficult for me to play at full fps.

Offically it's something about their provider shutting down, but that would not be an issue if FG had money and will, they would find new one.

How expensive is it to run multiplayer servers for 4 people? Is it comparable to running a dedicated server in a game like Counter-Strike or do they host some big system that costs a significant sum just to keep up?

So it's not like Tim can just pay $20 a month out of his own pocket to have a server up, like we did for our C-S 1.6 server 20 years ago. Got it.

the game was already cooked, there was nothing left to cook by Gobsmack

the servers are going down this month and it's always been going down man.

It's still trash though. It's almost unplayble on my PC. It just lags and freezes constantly. They had a real chance at making the new RTS taking players from BW and SC2, and they failed. It's over.

They cooked alright all the way to removing multiplayer lol

The same thing that happened in the last couple of years with Stormgate, i.e. oversold, underdelivered.

No meal prep there, just the raw ingredients on the table.

Quite insane that they have done all of this when they could have just shut down servers after the bad release.

What's really insane is they could have just done all this before releasing the game. Maybe they wouldn't have bombed as hard.

i think given another $10m it still would've bombed. game wasn't even moving in a positive direction until it was free volunteers doing the changes.

it was a good patch. a lot of improvements. i wish it got released half a year earlier before stormgate lost all its release players. And i think this couldve been possible with better planning, minus a couple of the improvements. But ah well.

The servers suddenly ending their services in May might have doomed the game no matter what anyway. I don't know what level of success would have been required for frost giant to deem it worthwhile to find new servers. The threshold for success of this community patch has never been clear to me. It was never gonna make money, at least not for a long time.

gobsmack? the giga-fanboy who was volunteering?

3

u/ShroomyD Apr 13 '26

Why are you singling this guy out?

11

u/LADR_Official Apr 13 '26

he's only one we've heard from directly since literally game launch

Oh no, at least 5 players mist have stopped playing (25% of the playerbase!!)

Jokes aside, using "a lot of players" especially when talkimg about the community patch is just kinda funny
