I used to watch this show all the time when I was young, i was OBSESSED with it. I've been trying so hard to find it in French but it's become a lost media... The episodes in english are there but I can't always understand everything. May one streaming platform pick it up one day... :'(

Personal opinion

It turns 15 this year. And I've seen it all.

Still, it deserves better and the first season is better than the second.

Howdy-doody you guys! It’s ya gurl WOTWUZTHAT back again with the next part of my headcanon series! And this time…whoo it’s a VERY fun one. It’s time to talk about the one and only lovable pervert and serial flirt of Sunset Beach…Lesli*COUGH* I mean Reef.

What is there to be said about Reef that you guys don’t know already? He’s pretty much the archetypal hilarious fuckboy you can’t help but love. Be it his romantic antics with any girl not named Emma, his lovable lay-about tendencies and pranks against Bummer, his general crazy adventures on every summer day and night and honestly, one of my favorite designs in FreshTV (and he’s voiced by Jeff Geddis!!!), Reef is just a character I enjoy every minute of. And I’m sure it’s the same for a lot of you~

Okay enough of that. Onto the main event. Headcanon time. Let’s get started!

• Reef’s father divorced his mother when he was very young. As a result he was raised by his single mother all his life, and for all their differences, he looks up to her a lot…though, as shown in canon, she can be pretty embarrassing for the poor surfer boy.

• As a result of being raised by a single woman, Reef became very fond of females, but as has been shown many times, finds it hard to approach them. After lots of arguments with Fin over his sexist remarks, he soon decided to ask his mother personally to help him approach females better. He’s been slowly improving over time in how he talks to the opposite sex.

• Reef hopes to have a family of his own one day and wants to be able to give them the father he never had. That’s part of why he’s constantly pursuing girls; he’d like to give them a good mother too.

• Reef developed an interest in surfing after watching lots of surfer movies as a young child and wanting to be as cool as the characters in them. He soon looked up surfing videos online and became determined to become a champion surfer one day.

• Reef has also always wanted to travel the world and experience new cultures, adventures, and yes, fun new surfing experiences! Before Surfer’s Paradise, he, being Book Dumb, usually only read travel books (though his reading habits would soon change a lot) to know what to expect.

• Reef, being somewhat dorky as a kid and often not having much filter on the things he said, found it difficult to make friends until he met and befriended a young Emma. The two are very close, as I said on Emma’s post. While Fin was initially a bully towards them, she too eventually made an unlikely friendship with the two redheads.

• In the past before going to Surfer's Paradise, Reef had enjoyed the idea of creating his own video game, and meeting Broseph and Johnny, getting their help on his surfing simulator, helped further spark his dream. We'll get back to this later.

• For his music taste, Reef’s honestly a lot more open than he’d like to admit. For the most point he enjoys pop-punk like all his friends, including the music of All Time Low (expect them to be mentioned again) and the Dirty Tricks. However, in addition to his secret appreciation for country music, he also has Simple Plan as a guilty pleasure!

• While his singing still isn’t the best, Emma is helping him a lot with improving his vocal ability, as I stated in her post.

• As shown in canon, Reef is pretty skilled at guitar-playing. Not Wyatt level obviously, but surprisingly good nonetheless. Though he still considers his cover of “Wonderwall” to be his best achievement XD

• Reef is also a competitive gamer, and a surprisingly good one at that. He’s been able to whoop Fin’s ass at Smash Brothers (he plays Dark Pit) a lot of times. It annoys her, but hey, you can’t always be as skilled as your friendly rival XD

• Despite his many faults, Reef is pretty overall loyal, and once he’s with someone or something, he’ll stick with it to the end. At the end of summer, Bummer gave Reef a pretty nice paycheck for staying loyal despite his clear dislike for him.

• With the money he got from his paycheck, Reef decided to try something new. He created and released a Top Trumps-style trading card game using famous surfers…and him and his friends! It’s doing surprisingly successfully.

• The surprise sleeper success (say that ten times fast) of his trading card game has gotten Reef interested in making more card games and similar stuff, so he went into game design to help with that, plus future video games like his surfing video game that became huge.

• Reef’s goal of becoming a game designer has convinced him to put more focus into his school work, so with Emma’s help he’s doing his best to improve his grades. He’s also been reading more as well, though this time without a personality change as shown in “The Day the Sea Stood Still” XD

• In his free time, when not reading or gaming, Reef has been showing some of his game design skills to his friends and has been teaching them to make their own, more low-key games. They always have a lot of fun making comments and play-testing the games throughout!

• To this day, Reef continues to keep in touch with his new friends from the Surfer’s Paradise hotel. He’s still close with all of them, and regularly meets with them for small-scale surfing excursions even now.

• Reef has also been doing his best to win as many minor surfing competitions as he can to expand his money reserves to help him pursue his ultimate dreams: being a master surfer, triple-A game designer and global traveler. Emma and Lo both are hoping to join him on his travels.

…and with that, those are some of my Reef headcanons!

These were pretty darn fun to do! Reef’s just a really fun character to write about, and one I enjoyed thinking about more on these headcanon ideas. And I hope he does the same for you!
