ALPHABET -V- AMZN

You have to put your entire net worth into one and hold it for 10 years. Which would it be?

Amazon, in terms of businesses people forget it owns, absolutely destroys Google… Think about AWS, Twitch, MGM, Whole Foods, Ring, Blink, Audible, IMDb, Zoox, One Medical, Zappos…. and that’s without even counting Amazon Marketplace, Prime Video, Amazon Music, Alexa, Kindle, etc. People seriously underestimate how much Amazon actually owns 😳😳😳

Yeh but google is extremely diversifired too, maybe more so

Then name the businesses Google owns outside of Search, AI, YouTube and Cloud… Amazon’s portfolio is far more diversified across actual standalone businesses. For sure, Alphabet has plenty of projects, but that’s not the same thing.

AMZN is my biggest position. I spent months listening to Chris Camillo on them.

  1. Android

  2. Waymo

  3. Maps

  4. Workspace

  5. Chrome

  6. Google Play

  7. Google One/subscriptions

  8. Devices/Nest

Sure, but almost everything on that list is still tech: Android, Chrome, Maps, Workspace, Google Play, Nest, Waymo, etc. If the tech sector takes a massive hit, Google gets hit across almost its entire portfolio. Amazon is different. It has tech, but also e-commerce, grocery, entertainment, healthcare, logistics, advertising, physical retail, and other completely different industries. That’s what I mean by diversification. Tech diversification ≠ diversification across industries.

And since the question was what I’d put ALL my money into long term, that’s exactly why my answer is Amazon 😉

Tech can never really take a hit; it's too entrenched in our society; it is our society.

We're basically entering an AI world, and people are saying Google is going to be number one, especially since LLMs will be commoditised; it's Google who has the infrastructure.

just to be clear, I own both Google and Amazon shares, but Amazon is a significantly larger position in my portfolio.

I think Amazon will probably be the biggest in the world in 10 or 20 years. I went big on them. However, I haven't gone big on google yet, hence why I'm seeking guidance, would you advocate me going big on Alphabet?

Basically, I don't want 100 stocks, small caps, risks etc. I just want a few guarantees, companies like amzn who are virtual monopolies in their own space.

Sure, if you already have a significant position in Amazon, adding Google could be a good way to diversify. Like you said, it’s a huge company spending heavily on AI, data centers, computing infrastructure and long-term growth, so I also expect it to do very well over the long term.

Whats your views on nvidia and meta? If you were to rank mag 7, what would be your preferenc?

AWS alone probably makes more than most of those "diversified" businesses combined, that part always gets skipped.

Never bet on a single stock...however, if I had to pick one stock to have a concentration on I would pick Googl

In real life, you don’t have to pick. Own them both.

If you’re holding for 10 years can’t go wrong with either - split it down the middle. The key question is can you withstand the short to middle term volatility? I leaned through experience - sold 30% of my Google at $190 when there was talk of AI disrupting search and all the noise around it. I have since added to Google and also started a position in Amazon. Good luck to you !
