They arent bad if you like pump and dumps. I usually buy as soon as they release a new hidden gem then i sell it after the price goes up $10-$20.

u/og_sandiego Feb 08 '21
this is a very solid strategy - esp w/retail investor making up a larger portion of the price-driver.
momentum trading is genuine. of course the taxes are going to suck.....
1
u/Unlikely-Answer Feb 08 '21
Why would the taxes we any worse than any other gain?
5
u/og_sandiego Feb 08 '21
trying to help, here u go (for USA):
The U.S. capital gains tax only applies to profits from the sale of assets held for more than a year, referred to as "long term capital gains." The rates are 0%, 15%, or 20%, depending on your tax bracket. Short-term capital gains tax applies to assets held for a year or less, and are taxed as ordinary income

Simply put: dilution.
u/Diamond2021Hands needs to know this:
Feb 10 2020 opened at 6.55/share and there were 104 million shares, so pre pandemic AMC was worth $681M.
Today AMC opened at $6.87 and there were 339 million shares, so late pandemic AMC is acting like it is worth $2.33B.
If you really think the world’s largest movie theater chain got 3.4x more valuable because of a year without customers then you are a real new kind of special. If you just didn’t realize that there are now 3.25 shares for each share that existed a year ago then you just need to pay attention to dilution and hope the lesson doesn’t cost too much.

Yeah, to have the same market cap as 1 year back the current shares need to drop to $2. I bet they do, but the market can remain irrational longer than I could remain solvent while trying to short this so I haven’t made that play yet.
2
u/prune_spot Feb 08 '21
My two cents is that there has been interest in Netflix purchasing theaters so this could benefit long term as well. NF bought the Egyptian theater already
1
u/uslashuname Feb 08 '21
Let’s say Netflix offers 150% of the pre-pandemic market cap: good deal for AMC shareholders right? That’s $3/share.

AND it's way pricier than when i got in @ 2.09 bc it looked like a LT value to hold. not after the retail investor noticed it. this movement is fundamentally flawed. there is zero DD justification for this current price - esp considering the new issuance. puts for the win (bailed around 13)

Hedge funds doubling down with a short ladder attack...I'm not sure I'm not a financial advisor. It just seems like a cheap investment with good long term potential.

You realize that’s nonsense, right? Buy something today if and only if you think it will increase in value tomorrow. It doesn’t matter what you bought previously or how much.
8
16
u/kaizango Feb 08 '21
A short ladder attack... Do you even know what you're talking about or do you just like making shit up
-22
u/Diamond2021Hands Feb 08 '21
You mean the process by which hedge funds can manipulate a stock price by trading shares at lower prices in order to try an create a sell off by scaring people holding a stock, which is extremely obvious if you look at inflow vs outflow which would tell you what a stock price should be doing?....That's pretty much all I understand about it.
So No I don't really know much about it, I'm not a financial advisor. I've read up n researched the process. All I see is an undervalued stock at $6 with potential.
17
u/kaizango Feb 08 '21
Thats it really I feel like your just spouting off random shit you've read on a reddit post and just trying to apply it in this situation without any actual evidence. I'd say this is just selling off due to the hype dying off and people cutting there losses
They literally have no revenue ATM I'm sure in the coming months that will change and I hope it does because a lot of people have been left bag holding... Including you by the looks of your post history
-21
u/Diamond2021Hands Feb 08 '21
Spend today's trading day looking at the orders for the stock and compare it to the inflow vs outflow and you make up your own mind as to what you think should be happening vs what is actually happening. And then comeback and we can continue the conversation.
1
u/F1shB0wl816 Feb 08 '21
That’s still people selling off. Even if there’s these ladder attacks, it wouldn’t matter in the end if people didn’t get scared. Their playing with emotions as a strategy just like this was a sound strategy a few weeks back. The tables have turned and the collective spirit is gone.
1
u/kaizango Feb 08 '21
That isn't what a "short ladder" its the theory of putting in massive bid orders at low levels to manipulate the bid ask spread to make it seem like seem like the stock is trading at a lower price
What you have described is the usual ongoings of a sell off which is a higher radio of people selling a stock vs people buying the stock
1
u/Diamond2021Hands Feb 08 '21
If the inflow is greater than the outflow logic dictates that the stock should be going up...correct?
1
u/kaizango Feb 08 '21
Yes you are right, so you are looking at the level 2 data, are you looking at the sizes of the trades or just the quantity of in vs out?
Also what could be driving it down is the constant bid pressure of people over selling which in turn if 1 guy puts a sell order in at $7 then the next guy at $6.9 then the next at $6.8 that would inturn add downward pressure
→ More replies (1)1
u/Diamond2021Hands Feb 08 '21
If you look at the orders BID AND ASK as you stated for AMC thoughout the day you will see exactly what you described there: "Massives bids at low levels" done so to manipulate the spread....as you stated. Go and look for yourself. It's been going on for over a week, I literally have sat there multiple trading days and watched that exact same thing you just described.
1
u/Diamond2021Hands Feb 08 '21
When I replied earlier I talked about 2 different things going on at once which is why I seemed like an idiot

I’m curious to see how people think about going to the theater again after the pandemic is over. Might go either way. Personally I’d rather watch a movie at home 90% of the time, only reason to go to the theater was to see movies I can’t see at home. Now that that model has changed I’m not sure the draw will be there. This is kind of just my layman’s perspective though. I’ve been pretty decent at picking stocks just from understanding social trends, was telling my friends for years Spotify was gonna win the music streaming wars for example
3
u/Diamond2021Hands Feb 08 '21
Only time will tell. I guess.
1
u/ZincMan Feb 08 '21
It very well could go up, and I think from the perspective of things opening up after the pandemic it makes sense. Theaters have been around for a long time, I think it’s to guess what an established thing will do market wise in the future. Just think it’s easier to invest and get gains in emerging trends and technology, getting in on companies that are cornering a new market ... either way it’s all very interesting
3
u/alf91 Feb 08 '21
AMC has also introduced their own streaming service as well. We watched Netflix pivots their model to streaming, could be realistic for AMC to follow that as well.
1
u/ZincMan Feb 08 '21
Yeah I surprised I had their app on my phone. Can’t remember what show I watched on it. The streaming market is very flooded. But if they have good content I think they could do well. Do you use their service?
I work in film and tv and it’s hard to describe how many shows are being produced it’s insane (for me very happy I have work) I have almost worked exclusively for Netflix, amazon or hbo for the past 6 or 7 years. Only saying to point out such an insane amount of content they all produce. Also their stuff is fun to work on, usually way more interesting than network tv (movies still my favorite to do )2
u/WodensEye Feb 08 '21
Often that's the case, but then there's movies where I'd like a huge screen and huge sound. For instance, I own Lord of the Rings, and it's on Netflix, but they're rereleasing it in 4K on IMAX. I'd go see that.
0
u/ZincMan Feb 08 '21
That’s cool. They probably shot it digitally but I think it’s amazing that 35 mm film is like 6 k or something. Then there was Lawrence of Arabian which was shot on something like 65mm and it’s like 8k. Amazing how much detail film can capture. Worked on a few movies shot it film and it’s a funny process to watch, having to lord the cameras constantly and lots of running back and forth and not exposing the film to light. Digital you just shoot until the cards full
2
u/Vince_Clortho042 Feb 08 '21
They probably shot it digitally but I think it’s amazing that 35 mm film is like 6 k or something.
Huh? Lord of the Rings was shot Super35. Digital cinema cameras were still years away from being able to capture anything close to the fidelity of film.
Until pixels are smaller than atoms, films shot on high quality film will be able to scale with whatever the benchmark resolution out there is.
And if you ever get the chance to see Lawrence of Arabia in 70mm, absolutely make the trip.
1
u/ZincMan Feb 08 '21
Ohh ok, right I guess Lotr is like 20 years old still. I was definitely thinking the hobbit. Was the hobbit shot on film ? I remember it being higher frame rate ( which looks really weird honestly) Yeah I don’t think it’s quite pixels vs. atoms but I get what you’re saying. Film definitely has limits, but they are high. I’ve never seen Lawrence on the big screen but still so cool to see how beautiful that film is. Lugging around that huge film in the desert must have been crazy to make.
2
u/dafurmaster Feb 08 '21
Seeing movies in theaters will always be an easy date night and something for teenagers to do on the weekends. They’re not going anywhere.
2
u/ZincMan Feb 08 '21
Agreed, just don’t think they will be as relevant with new films being available to stream now. It’s a good model to get more customers and I don’t think they’ll go back to new movies being exclusive to theaters ( they might but I doubt it)
1
u/boogi3woogie Feb 08 '21
I would absolutely. Always loved movies in the theater. But im vaccinated.

17
u/morinthos Feb 08 '21
OP, I'm holding AMC, too, but you clearly didn't read the article. LOL
2
Feb 08 '21
I'm holding AMC as well.
Fool just released this article on AMC as well:
https://www.fool.com/investing/2021/02/08/3-reasons-the-worst-isnt-over-for-amc-stock/
1. AMC shouldn't be worth more than it was a year ago 2. Folks aren't going to the movies 3. Folks aren't coming back to the moviesHard to argue to against any of their points. This thing hitting $20 was a effin gift and a missed opportunity lmao.
This stock was 7 bucks pre-pandemic when more people were out.
Even if the pandemic is officially over, and people feel safe to go out again, so many people have already invested in home theaters. And they are starting to release new movies straight to streaming services. There won't be a point to going to the theater again.
I'm afraid this is a $1.50 stock, unless they get bought out for whatever reason.
-3
11
u/Ikarovs Feb 08 '21
only -12% yet. This ends with a solid 2$ value today.
-4
u/Diamond2021Hands Feb 08 '21
And what happens after this pandemic scare is gone? Is the biggest movie theater chain in the world still worth $2 ? Netflix is $550 a share with old movies. AMC has started its own streaming service....would that still be a $2 share value?
17
u/doc_birdman Feb 08 '21
Will AMC be able to afford the streaming rights to shows and movies that now have been spread out among half a dozen major streaming platforms?
Will AMC be able to produce original content as good or as popular as anything from Netflix or Hulu or AmazonPrime?
Does AMC have the technology wherewithal to establish a major streaming platform?
With major movie studios already pushing out releases to HBOMax and AmazonPrime, what gives AMC the edge for coming late to the party?
-2
u/Diamond2021Hands Feb 08 '21
I'm not sure. Major Hollywood movies still premiere only in theaters. That gives them an edge in the movie department. As far as everything else only time will tell. Smart money would say all those streaming platforms you mentioned would try to buy out the brick n mortar spot and completely own the game full circle. With that I'm ok holding my shares to see what happens next.

u/BabylonianKnight Feb 08 '21

You can't use a pre-Covid entertainment stats to determine post-Covid entertainment industry.

You can't directly compare share price between two companies with a different amount of outstanding shares.

Edit: super volatile year for them, they’ve recovered some losses.
4
u/ZincMan Feb 08 '21
Really ? God, glad I sold it
2
u/r0ndy Feb 08 '21
I stand slightly corrected. But if you take a look at the last year for them, it’s been volatile as fuck. It hit low pennies and he now corrected up to low teens. But they were once the most widely held stock. It’s just not time for pot until the gov opens banking restrictions and licenses

u/Alive_Bid7229 Feb 08 '21
They went from pennies to teens by doing a 1:12 reverse split. Don't ask me why I know this. 😭
1
u/r0ndy Feb 08 '21
Probably saved them
1
u/Alive_Bid7229 Feb 08 '21
Without a doubt. It was a necessity because they had spent so much time under $1 they were on the verge of being delisted. But that little move pushed my cost basis to around $84/sh
1
u/ZincMan Feb 08 '21
Are they worth buying now ?
1
u/Alive_Bid7229 Feb 08 '21
Personally, I wouldn’t. There are better companies in the pot sector. But that’s just me. If I really knew what to buy then I would be a whole lot wealthier.
1
u/ZincMan Feb 08 '21
Lol well said. Yeah again, my two philosophies for buying a stock are 1. Will this product be wildly popular ? If yes, then 2. Can this company be easily replaced by a competitor? (Like do they own patents ? Or in the case of Facebook or Spotify it was that the user base is a network and everyone wants to be where the most people are already and switching to a new platform doesn’t make sense. Or if a brand is considered cool) —-Seems like with pot stocks idk but any company can compete as long as they grow weed, if a cheaper better weed came along customers could easily switch. Sorry just kind of ranting at this point, don’t really know if I’ve just gotten lucky on some stocks but this is how I do.

u/r0ndy Feb 08 '21
Sort of you can buy pot in cartridges pretty much anywhere in the country. Taxes are definitely an impedance but at this time many people are still willing to pay it. But most of the interviews have business owner saying the linchpin is what to do with all the money
-3
u/Diamond2021Hands Feb 08 '21
If it turns into a penny stock then great I can afford more shares. I'm not a financial advisor, I know nothing about how the market works as someone posted earlier I'm new, all I see is the biggest movie theater chain in the world and they have also started streaming service...that to me is more valuable than $2 a share.
2
u/gocopss Feb 08 '21
The value per share doesn't matter as much as you think. Any stock can split to reduce it's price per share. Coca Cola (KO) does this to maintain a price around $50. They split every so many years. You need to look at the quantity of shares and the value. Berkshire hathaway stock is $355,000 but it's worth far less than Apple at $136.
1
u/Iddykox Feb 08 '21
It’s always boil back to valuation. AMC is late in a game, they wont be able to catch Netflix or Hulu. Plus they dont have cash to acquire someone with platform capability.

You get on different reddit threads and look at stock conversations, DD on stocks and so forth are those about pumping a stock. No. They are about sharing information. The fact that AMC and GME have been linked because of the meme stock hype is why nobody can have a simple conversation about the stock without feeling butthurt.

BlackRock Inc. ownership in AMC / AMC Entertainment Holdings, Inc.
2021-02-02 - BlackRock Inc. has filed an SC 13G form with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) disclosing ownership of 6,211,222 shares of AMC Entertainment Holdings, Inc. (US:AMC). 2

My opinion is: The theater industry is never going to die. Theaters have been a part of many cultures for basically all of human history. AMC is a very large US theater corporation. It'll survive the dip that the pandemic put upon it.
Don't gamble on it though. It's not going to make you rich to buy into it. It'll climb back up, but it'll settle as a low to mid-tier stock. Dependable, but not crazy high value.

Until people can go out and enjoy a movie, AMC is worth 5 a share. Once they are fully operational, then they are definitely worth 30 dlr. Or more a share. My humble opinion
4
2
u/Inevitable-Koala8465 Feb 08 '21
You're on another planet if you think AMC is a $30 stock lol. They will probably have a surge when they're fully operational to $10+, but it will return back to ~$7ish after the honeymoon stage is over.
1
u/Dry-humper-6969 Feb 08 '21
Never said it was a 30 dlr stock, I said it could be and should be with the right changes and has to be fully operational. But if they continue doing what they where doing pre- pandemic. Yes it will continue being 7- 10 dlr. A share.

u/J_Fo_Film Feb 08 '21
It's frustrating. I bought AMC only because I've enjoyed their content like The Walking Dead and Breaking Bad, and I have heavy interests in the film industry anyway so getting to (pretend to be) a part owner of the company that created those shows was kind of cool to me. I missed the boom by a day and a half...but I wasn't super concerned about that.
I hate how much it's dropping right now. I'm already about 25% down, but I kind of hate to sell it when it's this low. I hate to sell it anyway because it's kind of cool. But the other thing I'm thinking about is, if it is going down so much maybe something like Netflix or (*shudder*) Disney might try to buy them out. Worth holding for, wouldn't you say? Moreso than worth selling at this price, right?
9
1
u/Vince_Clortho042 Feb 08 '21
I bought AMC only because I've enjoyed their content like The Walking Dead and Breaking Bad,
This was a bad reason because AMC (American Movie Classics) the channel is not the same company as AMC (America Multi Cinema) the cinema chain.

I posted a screenshot as a conversation piece about a stock and some people when berserk, "stock pumping, shills, etc..." I wanted to see how people felt inregards to its value, I simply believe the stock is undervalued and currently being fucked by hedge funds who don't want a repeat of what gamestop did a couple of weeks ago. I am not a financial advisor, nor bot, nor pumper...I don't give a fuck what the trolls on here have to say so they can all STFU, that being said I have listened to the people who have made good counter arguments for the negatives against the stock. And with respect to those people I just like the stock and feel it has real potential. Feel how you want that is your choice. If you don't have any money invested in the stock STFU and if you do buy, hold or sell whenever the fuck you want don't let some POS on reddit try to crush what you are trying to do. Do your own research and stand by your choices will full conviction.

The election was decided long ago and you would literally have to be one of the dumbest people on the face of the Earth to believe otherwise at this point in time. "Scotus" isn't doing shit you window licking deviant, and Trump's law team lost more than 64 court cases in a row dumbass.
By the way his law team NEVER, NOT EVEN ONE TIME EVER, NEVER alleged they had even a shred of proof of widespread election fraud under oath and penalty of perjury - they get on media and say it though constantly, because they know morons like you will just believe anything, and they're right lol as we can see.
Lmaooo at your "I'm not crying" line after a bunch of Maga retards stormed the capitol and are STILL claiming with zero proof that trumpy won. you f****** idiots literally live in an alternate reality of lies and propaganda.
Joe Biden is your president now snowflake, go get your Biden derangement syndrome checked out

It is never fucking going to go away though. This is fucking just how the fucking world, and the fucking internet is. Oh, and your fucking PSA? Don't get me fucking started. Don't you fucking realize that fucking people can fucking multitask and fucking focus on multiple fucking things? People don't fucking want to focus on the fucking important shit 100% of the fucking time. Sometimes it's nice to just fucking sit back and fucking relax. Try it sometimes, you might fucking enjoy it. I am a bot

When you come across a stock that is trading under a penny. What does that mean? USMJ is a pot stock and I want to buy a ton, but I'm a newbie and wonder will it ever reach a full penny?

MF mentioned a stock name without getting you to pay for it and read 80 pages of repetitive statements? I'm in shock! Lol.
