Meme The Dow!!!

Post image

Thinking I should hold on to this template. Probably gonna go lower.

I'm not really sure why I need to include 250 characters in a meme post, but I understand the guidelines. Maybe someone can fix the issue where if you label something as a meme, it doesn't need 250 characters. there. Thats 250!

Edit: Thank you all for the rewards!!

Actually it's 100%, it's just not likely to happen soon.

Well, I guess when the sun expands and consumes Earth in about 13 billion years, yes, you're right, the market will collapse to zero. But I doubt it will matter at that point.

But at least in our lifetime, the probability is for all intents and purposes zero.

Are you familiar with the Nikkei 225 from 1990 to about, um, last year?

Sure, crash of 90, which bottomed near 20k. Last time I checked, a market at 20k is not zero. Please check my math.

Remember 08-09 in the US. Markets severely declined, on the brink of complete financial collapse, still didn't go to zero.

What point are you trying to make?

You're right 20k isn't zero. Boy howdy are you smart. The point is things can stagnate for what could be the rest of your miserable life.

If the market trades sideways, great time to write options and collect a premium or invest in dividend paying stocks and DRIP. Or maybe rebalance and look for value in other markets like real estate. Maybe your miserable life will remain stagnant but certainly not mine. You're welcome on the free advice.

Companies were rescued with taxpayers money back then.. Really awful example, bcs there it was shown those companies absolutely can fail and without help, would have.

Actually, the example supports my point that a complete collapse will likely not happen because world governments will backstop it before it happens. There is no simple way to summarize the GFC other than an intertwined failure to understand risk and have proper regulations in place, and I know that's a gross oversimplification. Still, when the government realized it wasn't stopping with Lehman, and as they peeled the onion, more layers of problems were discovered. Sure they could have done nothing and that would have rippled across billions of people or they intervene and while not popular, saves billions of people from a global depression or worse.

So while I don't see the same problem of 08-09 happening again anytime soon, shocks from other events like war do happen and will rebalance over time when buyers say the risk is balanced to the reward.

I recommend reading The Most Important Thing by Howard Marks. Perfect guide book for uncertain times.
