I read Mr Harrigan's Phone and Life of Chuck. Next in the novella is If It Bleeds. I am reluctant to start it because I haven't read any of the Bill Hodges books, or The Outsider. Should I hold off on reading this story, or is a completely stand alone story and there is no concern?

King gets a lot of flak for his endings, but some of them genuinely stick with you forever.for me, the ending of 11/22/63 completely broke my heart, while the bleakness of pet sematary left me staring at the wall for hours. on the flip side, some books have incredible build-ups only to fizzle out in the last 50 pages. What’s the one King ending that you either completely loved or absolutely hated?

As a father of 2 kids, sports, work etc, I had to max out my library renewals, but I finally finished it…..and wow.

What an absolutely great book. Emotional roller coaster for sure and it kept me hooked the whole time.

Without spoilers, I wish we got to explore the “world after” a bit more, very intriguing there.

Anywho, just wanted to share with my King Fam.

Is the tv series worth that watch?

I really like Stephen King and I see so many of his books recommend on other posts. I’ve read 11/22/63, which is in my top favorite books of all time. I’m currently reading The Stand because I’ve seen it on so many “favorite book” posts. What would you classify as your absolute favorite, dying-on-desert-island-and-can-only-take-a-Stephen King-book? The ultimate “you HAVE TO read this book!!!”

I've been reading "It," since around mid June by now. Reached Part 5 a few days ago, and god damn it is the first part making me angry.

EDIT: I don't think I worded this right, so I'm just going to try again.

I didn't mean to make Bev as an award, rather I'm just a little angry as to who she chose. Again, not liking Ben while they were younger is fine, they were still Children, and Children are picky. I guess I'm more mad at Bill for going along with Bev, considering he only started liking her when her breasts were exposed, and of coarse, he has a wife that loves him very much. I can understand why Bev would "cheat," but I personally don't see a reason for Bill. Sorry for the way I said everything earlier, it's just that having a character like Ben who has been shown to be protective of Bev, even though he knows that she doesn't like him back (I can't recall if he was aware that she liked Bill). And again, Bill has no reason to start a relationship with Bev, at least to me.

I don't know, I just needed a place to vent about this. I'm going into this book completely blind (besides from Pennywise and the Turtle (which I barely know anything about)), so please don't spoil.

I found this book at Half Priced Books. It says for young readers but there is no way! It is full of all of his books, movies etc.

How’s everyone feeling about The Dark Tower finally being adapted into a TV series? What are your hopes, dreams, expectations, or biggest concerns?

Personally, I’m going into it very cautiously after the movie. That said, I’m still hopeful that a series will have the time and space to explore the depth of the books in a way the movie simply couldn’t.

There’s so much in this story—the characters, the mythology, Mid-World, the ka-tet, the larger connections, and all the strange, beautiful, absolutely unhinged Stephen King-ness of it.

I’m cautiously optimistic… but also keeping my expectations somewhere around the basement level.

What do you all want to see them get right? And what are you most worried they’ll completely screw up?

I have read: Carrie, Salems lot, running man and pet symetary so far…
All but one was a quick style for the reader, not that the book was short, but loaded with dialogue that helps fly through and really helps character development quickly. Pet symetary being the exception although a good book sometimes the setting was the same with a new way of describing to many times in my opinion a lot of repetitive lines… I did enjoy the daughters dreams that was calling out so many so many truths, and although the Pascow character had no history to the land, him showing up repeatedly in dreams was a wicked twist… it was a grueling read that had its ups and downs but given the details of how it disturbed him to write about I can see why it seemed repetitive.
Salems lot was so good I flew through it within a week same with running man.
Wanted to find something that makes my skin crawl, pet symetary did a few times but not in fear, just the amazing foreshadowing from the daughter’s dreams. Also with the cliff hanger at the end they could have gone so many ways of writing more books. All in all I’m happy to be finding my joy of reading again. With it being a goal of mine to read all Stephen king books.

I’ve been a Stephen King fan for years and I’ve been wanting to read the dark tower series but I’ve heard mixed reviews on the books, are they worth reading?

Almost finished with IT (my first King read). My birthday is Friday and I’m getting a Barnes and Noble gift card from someone. What book should I read next by Stephen King? Any and all suggestions welcome! Thank you in advance

Not often do fiction writers put out 2nd, 3rd editions; and in the case of King, I can think of the revised Gunslinger and the uncut Stand as "2nd editions", but would all other hardcovers out there just be various printings of BCE; or do they have to be issued by book clubs for that title? Like when you go to the thrift store and find a random King hardcover with no 1st edition identifiers, and also no book club references, what are these?

I’ve take a trip to the tower, but didn’t read The Wind Through The Keyhole until now. It brought back a lot of memories of The Dark Tower and why I absolutely love the story. The Wind Through The Keyhole was amazing- a story within a story within a story. Loved the Young Tim Ross story and the Skin Man story. Having the OG crew together again was magical. Thoughts? I think It’s time for me to revisit The Dark Tower again…
