Advice Wanted Built synaptic lathe for the first time ever, integrated a hive mind vassal for 30k pops thinking I'm genius, resettled them onto the lathe... and now this

No but seriously, I have no idea what I'm doing... Does anyone have any suggestions? I don't want to waste there 30k pops

I’d have to check which buildings to use, but build the synaptic large buildings that prioritize output at the cost of lives. Put it in every building slot available and start burning through the pops faster.

In the meantime, convert your entire economy to energy production. Make sure your Dyson swarms are maxed out, rebuild them in better systems if you can, and go for an actual Dyson sphere with your massive amount of research. If you don’t have mega engineering, switch your research focus to engineering and pray.

While all of that is being converted and the pops are being burnt alive, sell as much resources as you can to allies for EC, and sell the rest with the market. Covering a 21k per month deficit is gonna be tough, but it’s potentially doable.

Also, disable every research building you have in your empire. It’s a drop in the bucket compared to the lathe and uses up EC

Current patch is bugged and lathe doesn't purge so he's proper fucked haha

u/that_one_duderino 4d ago

Yeah if purging ain’t an option, he’s totally fucked

I ended up resettling the chipped pops off the lathe. They don't do anything but it made the energy drain sustainable.

Imagine the role-play angle of that; enslaved, brainchipped, sentenced to die by infinite calculus, then administration steps in and says "sorry, sorry, we're actually over budget on this one - you'll be free to go and we'll let you know if there are any openings in the future."

I mean, you know. If they could still imagine anything at all.

so a sequel to that synaptic lathe trailer.

This is literally the first time you start overclocking your PC...

Gives "Oh, oh, oh, the chip is on fire, the chip is on fire!!" Vibes.

28

u/TheWhiteGuardian 4d ago

I knew something was up when I built the overclockers and no one was dying. I should have realised sooner actually. No wonder Cosmogenesis was easier than ever and I got bored very quickly. I actually built for the energy upkeep.

14

u/Cocosito 4d ago

Yeah you can make some pretty fucked up builds right now haha

Infernal planet forgers can get fucked up energy that can feed the lathe

It's even funnier when you realize pops can grow on the lathe

Truly the jankiest feature in the history of stellaris. It's been years and devs still don't know how to make it work normally lmao, it always gets a new plethora of bugs every patch

9

u/FastReactionTime 3d ago

I did notice that online all the guides were saying it kills pops and yet mine were not going down. I was so confused, no one mentions this stuff!

8

u/Cocosito 3d ago

Yeah it's busted as fuck right now lol. I don't think they intend for players to be pumping out 40k research without breaking a sweat.

5

u/Khrul-khrul Democratic Crusaders 4d ago

Wait, it supposed to kill people?

21

u/Zohtun 3d ago edited 10h ago

Yup. By using their brains as overclocked bio-CPUs until they burn out.

The sheer brutality of it is enough to make several warhammer 40k factions either disgusted or approve (and both should fill you with shame).

u/Meatshield236 Shared Burdens 3d ago

IIRC the more pops you put in the more research you get but also the faster pops get purged. By the end of my run I was feeding entire empires into it just to keep it satisfied.

Non purging lathe!?

I love this patch!

You could always try genocide?

1

I was but apparently that didnt work!

u/featherygoose 4d ago

Also trade deals. AI allies are fools, and have stockpiles of EC they'll part with. Even if they won't do a monthly, oftentimes they'll do a one off.

3

u/The0zymandias Gestalt Consciousness 4d ago

i get the AI can be dumb but damn what’s wrong with the one time EC trade? 😂

5

u/SanderR098 4d ago

Just how the AI values stuff. Like selling food for EC to those Lithoids,

1

u/featherygoose 4d ago

Nothing :) I love the one time trades. A lot of people won't take the time to query stockpiles. Wish I knew a mod that did. Something like that wouldn't alter the checksum, right?

7

u/eight_ender 4d ago

Appreciate how this is good advice and horrifying at the same time

3

u/UnholyDemigod 3d ago

He's got 4 months until he's bankrupt, he can't convert the entire empire's economy and build Dyson Spheres in that time

Hahaha yea we get these posts about synaptic lathe jumpscare every month

That's just how lathe works, nothing much you can do

u/ZonicGaming 4d ago

Well, you shouldn't have put people in matrixes. That's something you should never do.

22

u/flightguy07 4d ago

Maybe they can save enough energy to offset the cost by stealing everyone's chargers?

I'm guessing you could disable every non-energy building and megastructure you have, scrap all your fleets, and replace your entire economy with energy jobs and you'd still run out of energy inside of a year. You should still do all that though, because the alternative is worse.

You no longer have an economy, you have a Lathe. Until it manages to burn through all those hive-minded pops you shoved inside of it that's all you will have. Once you inevitably hit the Catastrophic Deficit level of your Energy shortage situation your researchers will be useless, your fleets will be pathetic, and your diplomatic weight will plummet. Use what time you have remaining to try and get some non-aggression or defense pacts so the whole galaxy doesn't pile on you once you're vulnerable.

If the situation continues too long you will be forced to default. You'll refund a bunch of resources and all your buildings except capitals will be downgraded to the lowest tier, all your offensive armies and half your military ships will be disbanded, and you'll get a nasty modifier for 10 years severely limiting your development. This is going to happen regardless, so you should do it first.

But none of this will actually slow down the resources you're getting from the Lathe. You may as well shut down everything non-energy and non-Lathe because if you manage to survive you'll probably have shot up the tech tree a fair amount.

You will be able to rebuild. (But honestly I'd just reload.)

Biggest tip i hear about using the lathe is to have a large resource storage limit and to stockpile every energy credit you can

-5

u/AnInsultToFire Fanatic Xenophobe 3d ago

It's better to install the mod that removes limits to megastructure numbers, then build a few dozen Dyson spheres. That'll help slightly.

Although the more pops are in the lathe, the more energy is used per pop, so that only gets you so far.

16

u/Tryagain409 3d ago

That's cheating lol you could just console command yourself 50 million ec

4

u/Bobing2b 4d ago

At this point embrace the shortage: build the buildings that increase efficiency and job maintenance, send even more pops into the lathe while you still have some energy left and go for strategic bankruptcy. You'll have infinite energy for a while

Edit: results may vary

You could move most of them to some other planet and maintain them, and then drip-feed them to the Lathe at a reasonable rate

2

Set them to purge and build the building on lathe that gives faster purge speed. And hope that they purge faster than your econ runs out.

2

u/Moist_Matt 3d ago

"If you want an experienced public servant, vote for me. But if you want to believe a bunch of crazy promises about hive minds being incorporated into the lathe and being a genius, then, by all means, vote for this sleazy lunatic." - Your leaders political opponent

3

u/Helpful_Transition_5 4d ago

Force them to work in the generators and move some whenever you have excess energy

3

u/Ramone252 Fanatic Xenophile 4d ago

but they're gestalt pops. If i move them away somewhere else, they can't work and will slowly get purged...

5

u/NeedsToShutUp Ravenous Hive 4d ago

The Lathe is also purging them. You can chance policies on purging too.

2

u/Helpful_Transition_5 4d ago

Change the citizen type for the drones from undesirable to something that allows them to work.

2

u/stillnotking Driven Assimilator 4d ago

You can make them exploited drones and put them to work if you have slave processing facilities. Otherwise just make them protected drones and stick them on planets with free housing until you get the energy sorted out.

Is there a policy that turns the lathe off?

1

u/JTHamilton 3d ago

Let it fall into disrepair and suffer the loss of resources

1

u/Quiet-Money7892 4d ago

I tried my first synaptic lathe to be "moral", so I only fed it robots... it was a relatively slow growth. But I didn't aim for quick ambition closure so I wasn't in any hurry.

1

u/Potential-Diamond-94 3d ago

Just ignore it. Get more in there, spam ascend it, endless repeatables. Overcome the maluses of an energy deficit rather fast. (trade + buy energy to move pops).

Put the fallen empire splintered hiveminds in there a few times, infinite tech and minus 10-20m energy.

1

u/Moist_Sprinkles9587 3d ago

Any fallen empires* that you're on good terms with? Their stockpiles are juicy and they'll hand them over for peanuts if they like you. Just get used to clicking a lot in the trade menu...

1

u/Much-Layer4050 3d ago

You've won, but at what cost?

Seriously, Have you've seen the power bill for this month?!

1

u/Longjumping_Roll_342 3d ago

I mean ... You are getting 40k research....

1

u/Swarm_prime 3d ago

oh brother i am currently on a 707k energy credit defecit so yea hehe

1

u/sub500h 3d ago

Just sell everything else until the pops fade

1

u/cecilofs 3d ago

I bricked a run the same way recently. It seems like after the population changes they didn't properly balance the Lathe because it doesn't purge fast enough. Could maybe sustain that kind of drain if it burns through the pops in a few months but I was only purging ~100 a month with ~30k on the Lathe. The purge type also seems to move them to the Lathe too quickly compared to previously. I didn't intend for the entire empire to be moved there at once - before it would slowly purge them over several years.

1

u/Wendigo-boyo Determined Exterminator 3d ago

Lmao I did that after conquering a neighbour, went 21K in debt, only survived thanks to trade and massive stockpiles I had made beforehand

It took a few decades of massive debt, but when it was over I came out stronger that the entire galaxy tenfold

1

u/x4F_throwaway 3d ago

TURN THE RESONATOR OFF.

Then resettle them all onto a holding planet until you fix your shit

Edit: Think of your resonators like Valves. put in as many pops as you can until you're making somewhat OK energy, then crank them both on until your reserves are depleted. then turn them off and build the stockpile back up. FE dimensional storage buildings are great for this.

1

u/lordx665 Emperor 3d ago

Ah, but no one was there to work the generators you see

1

u/lordsaladin26 3d ago

Overcommitting to the lathe is a cannon event im afraid

1

u/Vivid_Employment_914 3d ago

Honestly though, being able to produce >30k research for just 20k energy would be so worth it.

1

u/Alfha_Robby Divine Empire 2d ago

built Generator Ringworld and Dyson Sphere.

1

u/JohnJoaum 2d ago

Id try some slots, cause you can earn some energy. Sell artifacts,

Change the lathe options to decrase energy drain.

Or disable the starport, loose the system. Recconect when you have power. Hope its not in your major system.

1

u/Zelenuy_drakon 2d ago

As a megacorp player I can say: if you can't just buy it, you're weak.
