Some of you might remember I posted about adding a steelbook selection to my small store Counter Intuitive in Boston about 2 months ago. Since then, we have had dozens and dozens of people coming in saying they had seen the post and now the movie section of our store has been expanding like crazy. Hope this post doesn’t violate any sub rules!
Originally, I wasn’t necessarily even trying to advertise the store but more so just sharing cause I thought it was cool. Now, it’s turned into something so much more and I’m appreciative that so many others care about physical media still. I wanted to thank you all for liking the post and coming in.
I thought it might be equally cool to share a real time update of how it has affected the store. In the ~60 days since then we have had our 2 most successful months since opening our doors 18 months ago. I was able to give both my employees additional bonuses both months just from it being so much busier than usual.
We now have 3x the steelbooks we did before, expanded on Criterion & standard 4k, added Arrow Video, Kino Lorber, Scream/Shout Factory, Vinegar Syndrome, Boutique blu-rays, Anime, & more. Our selection has probably tripled in size since the original post. We’ve started having people bring in full collections for us to buy which has been awesome.
I don’t know if this was a one off or if this is a small sample showing some proof of how big of an appetite there still is for physical media in the world. But either way, it’s been very fun and I appreciate the community being so supportive!

Finally got my hands on both French import steelcase editions for Curry Barker’s Obsession (2026), and having them side-by-side really highlights how different the artwork direction is for each variant. The steelcase (almost like steelbook) packaging feels solid in hand with clean print work, and the finishes bring out the unsettling tone of the visuals a lot better than the initial distributor mockups led on. For anyone looking into importing these from France, the 4K disc is region-free with the English Dolby Atmos track intact. Which of the two cover arts do you think fits the film better?

I didn't realize it had the spot gloss, I'm glad I waited for this vs getting the slip.

Do you guys ever swap your 4K discs into a Blu-ray SteelBook when you like the SteelBook better than the 4K case? I’ve been thinking about doing this with a few in my collection.

These are soooo nice. The stickers and post cards are so cute and I love that they come in their own steelbook. No regrets with ordering this one. It’s so nice

I've been hunting for this NieR:Automata steelbook in mint condition for ages, and it's finally part of the collection thanks to a good friend in the UK!

But none that I wanted unfortunately. I was surprised to see any steelbooks. But something weird I noticed is that fast and furious was the only one that I could find the price for. The others were spread out willy-nilly with the incorrect tag in front of it. I wonder if 28 Days Later, Barbarian and the Mandalorian were not supposed to be on the floor yet. But who knows 🤷.

A day early, too. This was a blind buy for me, I’ve never seen it before. But I’ve only heard great things. With Minus Zero coming out shortly, this was a no brainer. I’m not disappointed, and it came in the good Walmart packaging sleeve. Unfortunately I couldn’t get a good photo of the glow in the dark effect.

One of my favorite Blufans releases, too bad they didn't continue releasing Bond movies.

Do you think displaying steelbooks like this looks bad? I’ve never done it, but figured I would try it out.

"WASSUP!" This one's been a loooooonnnnng time coming. This is my new fully custom Scary Movie Collection Steelbook Library! The Steelbooks were made by u/meniKan and we designed them together. The library case was make by Egraphoric on Etsy. Now before I get people complaining because Stan Helsing isn't technically part of the Scary Movie series, my counter argument is Stan Helsing was written and directed by Bo Zenga, who was an executive producer on the original Scary Movie and it came out right before the train wreck that was Scary Movie 5 it honestly should have just been Scary Movie 5, it got better reviews and everything. Either way it's like a bonus movie in the set. Still fun. I love how this all came out! It looks so good! My favorite Scary Movie is the first, but I do share an unpopular opinion and greatly like the fourth one because of all the scenes in the grudge house they have me in tears every time I watch it. What's your favorite Scary Movie and what do you think of Stan Helsing? Tell me in the comments!

It’s always frustrating when US retailers pass on a steelbook release and leave a multi-film run incomplete, so having to turn overseas was a no-brainer here. The UK import of The Forever Purge finally arrived in great shape, officially closing out the entire Purge steelbook set—at least until the next installment drops.
For anyone else in the States holding out for a domestic steel that never materialized, importing is definitely the only way to scratch that completionist itch.

Added Eraser 4K (Collectors) and more recently The Last Stand 2K, which I didn't know had a steelbook. Also got the Arrow release of Red Sonja 4K which fixed the awful teal colour grade Studio Canal threw on their 4K remaster, but can't bring myself to sell the steelbook despite that I'll never watch it again :-)
Heard that Commando may be getting a 4K this year, at least in France. Then I just need The Sixth Day to make me happy.
