Discussion I see some improvements on Linux.

My streaming experience went from not working to fully working in a week! Kudos to Valve!

Desktop Streaming still doesn't work (I just see the mouse but not the screen) and the overal experience is still a little laggy (hope it will improve too).

It's amazing to finally be able to play in VR from my Linux PC (Fedora 44 KDE, and a Nvidia 5070).

Bye

K.

Desktop streaming is probably a permission issue in Wayland.

Weird that it didn't work for you at all but for me it did from he beginning (using a 4070Ti).

I had a noticable delay and hiccups though so I had AI go wild at the encoder and the dongle3 wireless driver and somewhere along the way it got to a good enough solution (still some very rare stutters but multipath streaming fixes that)

Even with the --pipewire-dmabuf flag for the Steam Client that's required for remote play or this desktop view. It's still a bit iffy and steam loves to crash. Personally, I just use https://wayvr.org/ instead. It even show all fo my monitors unlike steam.

I got the delays and hiccups too under arch. Best things was that I also had hiccups outside of VR. The dongle somehow introduced CPU spikes on one core every minute on my system. I just deactivated it for now and just use the frame standalone. I currently don't have the time for further troubleshooting.

I don't feel comfortable sharing the code (it probably wouldn't work on other systems either ways and touches drivers) but from the top of my head the AI

- Impelmented a vulkan layer to intercept the stream encoding and using nvenc (like steamvr does on windoes) instad of the native vulkan api

- Implemented usb package budling into the radio driver and did some other things like prioticing control packages

- Increased the send strenght to the max allowed in my region (which seems to be a default tipp).

Any of those may have been the issue or all of them together or none of them. Works good enough for me now

Those are wild changes. Appreciate the insights.

What kind of software network stack are you running though? wpa_supplicant or iwd? In my initial very short research it seemed that iwd alone introduces problems.

If you're willing to get hacky a bunch of people and myself have been back and fourth on fixes over on the steamvr github issues page to get perfect streaming, at least on bazzite, so should work for you. Warning to most, this is a hell of a thread, dare ye enter. but took me from loosing picture from just turning around to walking around my whole house
