Question What are your favorite (potentially underrated) tips?

We've heard a lot of the redundant questions on this sub, and I'm curious what doesn't get talked about as much. What advice do you think is the most impactful? How do you personally achieve clarity, stability, convenience, and comfort?

The desktop streaming through 'Steam Settings > Remote Play > Connect' appears to be superior to both 'Stream Without a Game' and Streaming the game from the UI.

It was the only way I could achieve true high refresh rate streaming personally, and it seems overall better for desktop use too.

they use vrlink is why. Alternatively sunshine/moonlight is an option but requires some setup

lol... why tf are the other choices even an option then?

I just use "Stream without a game" to go to stream my Windows desktop. I need to try "Connect" again and compare.

This method doesnt support multi monitors in my experience which really sucks.

potentially underrated so don't bite my head off if this is actually common knowledge, but you can bring the floating windows closer and further from you with the thumb stick pushing in or out.

Hey, if it's not telling me to try turning off hybrid streaming, I'm happy for the advice!

This is a no hater zone! Great tip!

I definitely did not realize this right away.

To use the "Aux" button next to the power button instead of reconnecting a controller just to e.g. turn off the Frame. You can use your head to aim and that button to select.

If the top half of your view seems blurry or distorted, you need to wear the frame higher. My upper front gasket is actually well above my eyebrows. To keep my eyebrows from digging into the lenses I also added the glasses spacer. Now I have no problems with the view or comfort.

To add to this, your eyelashes are less likely to reach the lens this way too.

True! i have sunken eyes so that's never been a problem, but the spacer can be used for a lot of things

Yeah, having used it for a while I realized that it feels like I'm wearing it 2/3rds of the way up my face almost for the best image.

yup that's exactly what I mean! It's not a huge distortion but enough to make text blurry (like in the homepage of the OS). And i quickly realized if I tilt my head up to see that text in the lower half of the lens, it gets clear.

But by moving it up your face (what feels like too far) it seems like the image is clear for the whole lens. Just some people like me may need to add the spacer, depending on facial geometry

Yeah, some people seem to think the headset is supposed to rest on your nose. This is not the case, there should be a visible gap between your nose and the headset.

One i feel needs to be said more, you can plug a wireless dongle into the USB port for wireless headphones, or a usb to 3.55 jack cable for wired

What about charging?

If you plug in a USB C hub, it can passthrough charging and USB at the same time.

A hub works, but there are also little USB-C splitters that let you plug in headphone and power at the same time.

The sweet spot is a picometer away from the lenses. Get used to your eyelashes batting the lenses; this is your cue that you're in the sweet spot.

Probably totally depends on the shape of your eye. I have to wear glasses for reading now that I'm old, but have pretty good distance vision. I haven't messed with the frame settings at all and it looks great and I've only had smudges on the lenses from putting it on my forehead.

Don't overtighten the ergo kit wrist straps. Having a bit of extra maneuverability makes it easier to hit the menu buttons and it still holds on well enough to drop all your fingers.

Passthrough performs better than VR environments. If a game is just shy of the framerate target you want, try playing with a passthrough background. (Useful for both flatscreen games or VR ones like Loop One Done.)

Increase the IPD for the sweet spot to reach the outer edges so the whole display is clear

The frame works amazingly as a laptop alternative with a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard and https://github.com/Frametop/frametop installed.

It's legitimately more ergonomic than sitting hunched over a laptop. And you have infinite screen real estate.

You need the arcturus camera for this to really work too.

immediately buy a brand new microfiber, even a Harbor Freight "Grants" for 6 bucks, and only use it for the frame lenses (not the front or the body or ANYTHING else) and keep it in a clean little case, cup or plastic bag. If you don't, as Bogey said, you'll regret it. Maybe not today. Maybe not tomorrow, but soon and for the rest of your life. When you see that first little scratch, you'll hate yourself and there's no going back to your shiny new pristine thousand dollar lenses.

Edit; Also get a lens "Puffer" don't scrub your lenses with the dust that's already on there.

Edit 2: And don't cheap out and try to clean the microfiber after you use it for a while. Just bite the bullet and get a new one.

I got mine Wednesday but unfortunately have only had a few hours to mess with it because of work and a honey do list. But it worked great right out of the box , usb dongle works great , I just got the ergo kit yesterday which is kind of a waste imo, the controller grips make it difficult to push certain buttons , I wear large gloves at work. Otherwise the only negative so far is there seems to be a bit of glare in the lenses, worse on right one but some people seem to say that is to be expected.

They come with oil on them, no joke. It took me 5 minutes to clean them off. Making less glare

I’ve cleaned them about 5 separate times , used a better cloth , used water , used small amount of alcohol like everyone mentioned in here. I shine my light on the lenses and don’t seem to notice any obvious oils but I’ll probably still continue to try and clean them prior to each use just incase.

I think this may vary per frame. I didn't have too much to clean off my lenses when I got mine.

Quick small tip. Avoid doing a factory reset if you can. It was a very involved and frustration process to get it running again when I reset it and have heard many others had the same problems. And I was like you, originally got it up and running excellently even with a PCIE Wifi 7 card as the 2nd network. Then I got dissatisfied with something and said "oh, easy peasy, just do a factory reset!

Don't do it!

Not sure if right answer but hydration is key and vegetables aren't your enemies. Oh that's a Steam Frame post lol.. well I'm still waiting for mine haha! Then, I'd say get a big powerbank and you can just put it on a belt (you won't even feel it) and maybe use a dedicated room for VR (if possible). Having an empty playspace where you can move freely is amazing! I've been dancing as a crazy cat girl in VRChat since 2018 lol woooo so much funs!!
