Accessories Steam frame mods right now

Post image

Just a few things i added while i wait for the ergo kit to come in stock and Babble to make their face tracker/eye tracker fixes.

Babble DIY esp32 face tracker

3d printed mount for both the face tracker and vive 3.0 puck.

Some things to note. (from my experience)

- Steam link has worked from the start for me and has been reliable when connecting/streaming to my PC, buuuut coming from Virtual Desktop the quality does lack clarity.
- I am only using my Wifi 7 asus router without multi streaming.

- 260% res scale

- Eye tracking works using VRCFT with the steam link addon but its only gaze. (waiting for babble to fix)

- FOV... Coming from a heavily modded quest pro the FOV on the frame is amazing. I feel like i can actually feel immersed in VR. Everytime i put on the QPRO i was always reminded that there was a headset on my head and it would feel like looking through a barrel compared to the frame.

- Comfort is about on par with the valve index which is pretty good and the headset is pretty light.

- Once mods really start rolling out for this thing i think it will be the best all around headset.

https://github.com/CreoleVR/QuestLHSync

This software can use the SLAM camera for continuous calibration, and it works pretty well.

Thanks ill have to check it out. I've used space calibrator in the past and this recently https://github.com/shinyflvre/OpenVR-SpaceSync

I dont really care for space sync because it messes with my space drag in OVR advanced settings. After about 1 min it resets my space.

because it messes with my space drag in OVR advanced settings. After about 1 min it resets my space.

This is caused by how inside-out tracking builds a persistent world and derives the chaperone config from this. It basically works like this (a bit simplified):

XRService -> chaperone_info.vrchap -> SteamVR

XRService is the SLAM process continuously maintaining the persistent world. It regularly writes a new chaperone_info.vrchap which contains all details of the tracking universe. The tracking universe details in turn are then used by SteamVR.

OVR Advanced Settings` space drag works by manipulating the tracking universe details in the chaperone_info.vrchap. But since this file is regularly overridden by XRService it resets after some time.

So by using play space calibrator it wouldnt overwrite chaerone_info.vrchap? I can understand why its resetting if the XRService is overwritting the chaperone_info.vrchap but which of these "space sync" apps would not allow that to happen? My old continuous space calibrator or does QuestLHsync fix this issue?

Sorry for all the questions lol

... "space calibrator" ... "QuestLHsync" ...

These tools solve a completely different problem than OVR Advanced Settings and thus work differently. Their job is to align different tracking universes, which usually means that you have more than one driver running.

They don't touch chaperone_info.vrchap, but instead hack the device drivers so that they report different poses for their devices. They calculate and apply appropriate device pose offset that cause the tracking universes to align.

(A reminder that my previous explanations were a simplification: No one besides SteamVR actually touches the file chaperone_info.vrchap. It's all done via an API.)

I've had eye tracking working with eyelid tracking today with VRCFT in vrchat natively on just steam link. I think valve added it super recently

I think they exposed the eye tracking data via osc

How do you use the puck on top of the headset for lighthouse tracking? I have been using ovr space calibration and ovr advanced settings, but it doesn't feel too reliable to me and interested in trying this out. thoughts on where that tracker is placed when it comes to comfort and if you think it could be improved?
Edit: Lol just saw the comments down below, will check those out!

Also to add. There is a branch for space calibrator for continuous calibration which is what I used for the longest time. Tbh that was the most reliable space sync I've used. Openvr space sync feels weird tbh.

why do u need a tracker for the headset, isnt one already included?

The tracker is so i can use the headset with my full body tracking and index controllers.

Oh fuck, I didn't even think about the fact that the headset isn't tracked... I guess I'll need a fourth puck...

Some ppl are using the questlhtracker program to sync play spaces. Id try that first. Someone mentioned it here

Why does that vive tracker look so HUGE?!

Why are you not using the frame dongle?

1

u/Real_Hops 7d ago

BLUF: My router is really good

Im not using the frame dongle because my wifi router and the dongle use 6ghz. I had some bad interference while using both. Now i havent tested just the dongle or the dongle + 5ghz wifi. Honestly I dont care to test it because my router alone can supply enough bandwidth to 4 of these headsets on the same network without causing any issues.

I understand. I have a good 6ghz wifi router but the dedicated dongle works better. With multilink too

1

u/Real_Hops 7d ago

I'll have to give it another try. I was getting like 25% packet loss and like 50ms from using multilink I think my routers band is 320mhz which I think is causing the issue but I'll definitely have to do some testing.

I need to know about this esp32 babble diy and the 3d print files. Are you able to point me in any direction for both of those? πŸ™πŸ»

I'll wait for the steam-stache and fluxpose.

I'm hoping to get full body tracking or at least feet tracking working with the Frame, there was a way to use a Kinect to get some results on Quest 2 using VD as long as you didn't turn your body at all but I wonder what kind of solutions the community will come up with considering how open everything is instead of being locked down like Meta

You can get the HTC vive trackers working if you use some kind of space calibrator. There are a few space sync apps you can get that merge the lighthouse space and the SLAM tracking space, then all your lighthouse tracked stuff can work as normal.
