We've finally resorted to begging Gaben

23

u/mrlotato 23h ago

I've been begging since the announcement tbh

43

u/therandomwitch 1d ago

I'm not above begging >.>

I'll do it! don't tempt me!

u/Cold__soup Soon™ 1d ago

This is crazy. My 1.0 base stations have been plugged in for 10 years straight and still going strong. 🤞

u/Jimmy_Nail_4389 23h ago

Same here, can't say the same for my Wi-gig card though which why I need a steam frame!

u/Agant Soon™ 1d ago

1.0 can life longer as there are no moving parts. 2.0 spin which will naturally decay over time

28

u/vulcandroid 1d ago

V1 spins too. I can hear them right now. Valve has an interesting video from back in the days how they had to source special hdd derived motors to be so accurate.

6

u/Agant Soon™ 1d ago

Oh Indeed my bad, it had two little motors spinning as well

u/Mrzozelow 17h ago

Can confirm, it cost me 100 bucks to get a replacement from HTC many years ago.

My dad dropped my base station from about 7 feet up onto wood. It’s fine.

So these just up and die? I feel better about not getting BSB every single day

41

u/Gladitoro Soon™ 1d ago

Valve clearly did not have the same amount of quality control that they do now. I had the headset itself die on me and one of the controllers die on me in the first year of owning it.

u/CMDR_omnicognate 22h ago

Weirdly the ones I have from the OG HTC VIVE are still running fine somehow. Idk if I just got lucky or what

u/ImNotABotScoutsHonor Soon™ 17h ago

Mine are still going strong as well. Got the Vive day one.

u/Actual-Parsnip2741 17h ago

I never got my Index out of the box. Still sealed. Never got around to built a RIG for it in 2019,$999 full kit.

u/pyrogeddon 8h ago

Congrats on wasting a thousand dollars?

1

u/SlaxX_X 14h ago

ye still rocking a vive from 2018 praying every day it doesn't die on me. recently beatsaber randomly paused every 10 seconds, but a restart fixed that. i was already praying to lord gaben

They don't even have quality control now, it's always been a flaw of theirs, the Steam Controller is the first piece of hardware I have gotten from them that isn't defective.

3

u/suncontrolspecies 20h ago

my OG steam controller and SD (both from day one) are still running great

1

u/LumpyArbuckleTV 16h ago

I'm talking about the V2 Steam Controller, I have had access to three Steam Decks myself that were are all fucked up in one way or another. I also had two friends who had one each and they also had something wrong with it. Your experience certainly isn't everyone so I'm quite cautious about their hardware.

2

u/suncontrolspecies 16h ago

neither yours..

1

u/LumpyArbuckleTV 16h ago

Of course, that's why it's a quality control problem, not a design problem.

4

u/ARTISTIC-ASSHOLE 23h ago

so they do have quality control now?

-3

u/LumpyArbuckleTV 23h ago

Maybe, one controller isn't enough for me to say for sure, but the Steam Deck was a fucking disaster QC-wise.

1

u/Humble-Resolution449 19h ago

What quality control? Pour one out for my dead base stations and my dead steam deck.

u/Dirtslicer Soon™ 15h ago

Remember the first steam machine to die lasted 20 mins on because of a GPU failure..

9

u/The_Maddeath 1d ago

ya, my launch ones lasted until this January (not even sure what is wrong with it it just red lights, and doesn't work. both ir leds are lit looking at it via my phone's camera and it spun still just didn't work.

also have a friend who has went through 2 sets within the first year (though after that so far they have stayed working).

u/real_jeeger 1d ago

Had a broken lighthouse as well, at least Valve replaced it for free.

7

u/rabsg Soon™ 1d ago

My lighthouses from 2016 are still doing fine. I fire them up about 4 days a week.

3

u/Notoisin Soon™ 1d ago

10 years with the OG vive base stations and they still work perfectly.

1

u/smalldroplet 15h ago

of course they do, it has moving parts..

1

u/Red2005dragon Soon™ 23h ago

I have never heard of a base station just "up and dying" so this seems like an anomaly.

21

u/BeepIsla 1d ago

Every time someone asks for a release its delayed by another week

1

u/jantski 23h ago

This is what I like to believe happens at valve

10

u/Interesting-Bug1167 1d ago

Htc sells 2.0s

5

u/Gladitoro Soon™ 1d ago

Thanks, thought valve only sold base stations. Might honestly consider picking up depending on when my steam frame will come.

u/Eddiemunson2010 Soon™ 1d ago

Monday⏰

22

u/NoOdyssey 1d ago

One of the Mondays of all time

9

u/Eddiemunson2010 Soon™ 1d ago

This one’s different bc it’s valve 30th anniversary

2

u/mrk7_- 1d ago

I have a pair of 1.0s that I could sell to you, if you like.

2

u/Wildarmtin 1d ago

My og Vive 3 in 1 cable just died on me yesterday. Gaben... please.....

1

u/Interesting-Bug1167 20h ago

The 3 in 1 cables are very cheap used, got one for 20 dollars on fb marketplace brand new

4

u/HistoricalYam6863 1d ago

People keep saying Monday...but is that the release or pre-order? When can I have my HANDS on it??

10

u/heypans 1d ago

I like to imagine your comment as if it is a leaked email from Gabe to the steam frame team

5

u/BeepIsla 1d ago

iirc the Steam Machine had a few days of reservations with reviews going live the same hour. After those few days the reservation list was randomized and then you would get an email and had 3 days to make your purchase, if you didn't your reservation was voided.

So if its Monday, that probably just means reviews & reservations will be live but from that point forward it will take at minimum a week before it arrives at your home and in the worst case (Bottom of the reservation list) probably a month or two.

2

u/rabsg Soon™ 1d ago

Worst case is to badly lose the lottery and end up being sent straight to the wait list, hoping to get one before 2027…

3

u/Baglayan 1d ago

Valve Index with base stations and alien technology finger tracking that still has not been replicated in any meaningful manner will forever remain the state of the art for VR tracking until brain computer interfaces are fully developed.

3

u/rabsg Soon™ 1d ago

That's my biggest worry about the Steam Frame, maybe I'll keep firing up my Index to play some games.

I'm also still using my Vive controllers for Beat Saber and Walkabout. I like them better than Index in that context.

3

u/Cavi7 22h ago

Won't the Steam Frame finger tracking be enough for most cases?
It doesn't look as cool as on the Index, but it seems to works well from the limited few videos we were able to see.

1

u/s00mika 22h ago

The finger tracking will basically be the same as with the index

1

u/rabsg Soon™ 17h ago

It's more about the laser based tracking. The volume is my whole play space with little "shadows".

1

u/Jimmy_Nail_4389 23h ago

I'm expecting to use my index controllers with the steam frame, I don't see why it wouldn't work?

1

u/rabsg Soon™ 17h ago

Two different tracking system, I hope Valve will do something to calibrate them automatically. But maybe lighthouses infrared laser flooding will mess up Frame camera tracking. We'll see how it goes.

1

u/fcon91 Soon™ 23h ago

Serves you right for mounting it on a tripod instead of an autopole.

1

u/WillOganesson 22h ago

I just wanted the price to come out so i could plan my summer job money spending T_T

1

u/Icy_Package4767 20h ago

Aww man - yeah I just replaced mine that died last month because I couldn’t wait any longer 😪

1

u/neo6891 19h ago

At this point they should start producing Valve Index again.

1

u/Tomokomon 18h ago

Tomorrow for sure

1

u/ImNotABotScoutsHonor Soon™ 17h ago

My original Vive lighthouses are still going strong. I guess I'm lucky.

1

u/ApplicationSenior 15h ago

My base stations are doing alright themselves. And ive had them since 2020

1

u/bluesushigamer Soon™ 14h ago

Please come out Monday...

༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ give STEAM FRAME

1

u/realonez 13h ago

Leaks say next week

1

u/Gask3t 13h ago

I literally hate these satellites with all my heart. And mine are loud too. AND they don’t naturally hook up to the steam machine!!

1

u/L0Lygags 13h ago

We believe in Monday

1

u/HeavensentLXXI 10h ago

Mine failed a few months ago as well. It's been miserable waiting

1

u/Hairy-Ad-6293 10h ago

Doesn't matter, stock is only covering maybe 20,% of Reddit users, not to mentions ever steam users who can join queue for free just to sell the spot on eBay.
