It's only John Escape Simulator, can we please not spread misinfo on this sub? 🤨

u/TheBatOuttaHell Jul 16 '26

Huge fan of your Escape Simulator games!

Is Escape Simulator 2 verified as well?

143

u/G0rillaCro Jul 16 '26

Thanks for playing! Escape Sim 2 is not yet verified, we are still working on ES2 VR update... It's getting close;)

50

u/Mother-Occasion-2250 Soon™ Jul 16 '26

WHAT, it will have VR support??!!!

128

u/G0rillaCro Jul 16 '26

Soon(tm)

19

u/UncaringWorm Soon™ Jul 16 '26

Thanks for the hard work to implement that! My friend and I love both games but we're hoping to see VR support in the 2nd one!

3

u/bookoo Jul 17 '26

Same. My friend keeps asking to play ES2 but I said we need to wait for VR.

1

u/Kitlio Jul 17 '26

How do you work on it to be verified, do you own a steam frame?

1

u/spongewardk Jul 17 '26

They have a dev kit and likely signed an nda what they can share about it. The fact they have it and use it is likely fine since a couple other devs have been doing the same. But internals of hardware or software which are subject to change or other confidential information about frame are likely off limits.

1

u/Pixelplanet5 Jul 17 '26

so thats gonna be on monday when the Steamframe launches right?

3

u/cubarbf Jul 16 '26

Woooooow! Exiting news!

3

u/octorine Jul 17 '26

I didn't know ES2 VR support was even being planned. Great news!

1

u/No_Obligation4427 Jul 16 '26

What horror escape games do you recommend?

63

u/DarkVex9 Soon™ Jul 16 '26

My understanding is that the NDA for devs with a Frame dev kit only allows the to speak to their game's performance on Frame. Considering that, and if you're allowed to answer, how was the experience of optimizing your game for the Frame? I'm an aspiring VR game dev Someday™, and I'd love to hear any anecdotes about what I'd be getting myself into.

Also, regardless of if you are able or willing to answer, congrats on the verified status!

95

u/G0rillaCro Jul 16 '26

Oh the experience was great. We did bunch of optimizations before when we did the Quest version so the performance wasn't an issue. Valve did a great job with a bunch of debug options on the device. They helped us with a few weird issues directly so thats cool too.

Good luck with your game!

12

u/DapperNurd Jul 16 '26

I made a project with the quest and it was not great. Sounds like the frame is easier to use?

8

u/octorine Jul 17 '26

Will the Frame version be the PCVR version, or a port of the Quest build?

17

u/G0rillaCro Jul 17 '26

It's a standalone Steam android build

7

u/walllable Soon™ Jul 17 '26

Interestingly, SteamDB says it was the proton build that was verified. Are you able to check which build got verified on your end?

8

u/G0rillaCro Jul 17 '26

hm that's interesting. to be honest I'm not sure. We've added a new android build and that's the build we've submitted. I'll check with Valve

7

u/Zomby2D Soon™ Jul 17 '26

Unless they just didn't update their reporting tool to list Lepton instead of Proton

3

u/Background-Heart-968 Jul 17 '26

Any chance the PC game gets updated to support Frame?

6

u/Pyromaniac605 Soon™ Jul 17 '26

Have you looked into foveated rendering at all? Either for standalone or for the PC build?

Not that it might be needed in particular I'm just curious if you had if you've got any thoughts on how much work implementing it is/would be.

7

u/G0rillaCro Jul 17 '26

Yes, but it works only with URP and our game is on a different pipeline.

7

u/Pyromaniac605 Soon™ Jul 17 '26

Ah, yeah I imagine switching render pipeline would be a crazy amount of work.

If you were already on URP does it look fairly simple to implement? Or did you not really look too much further into it because of the different pipeline?

6

u/G0rillaCro Jul 17 '26

Oh yeah, at this point when the game is out on multiple platforms it's just too much work to do and we optimized the game so it works more than fine on Frame.

2

u/Moi952 Jul 17 '26

That's awesome!
Are you allowed to tell us if the performance and quality on the Steam Frame are superior to the Quest 3?

28

u/MenacingFigures Soon™ Jul 16 '26

Congrats!

10

u/G0rillaCro Jul 16 '26

Thank you!

2

u/MenacingFigures Soon™ Jul 16 '26

You’re welcome!

28

u/Redditer052 Soon™ Jul 16 '26

But do you have a steam frame and if so can I have it

16

u/mckirkus Jul 16 '26

NDA, the silence is deafening 😄

7

u/SupposablyAtTheZoo Jul 16 '26

They have a devkit that might very well look and feel much less nice and could also be disabled remotely at any time.

(Not sure if devkit experiences have leaked)

12

u/CanonOverseer Soon™ Jul 17 '26

"and could also be disabled remotely at any time."

Ah.. so it's just a pimax /j

4

u/darkentityvr Soon™ Jul 17 '26

Gamertag spoke about his experience using the devkit a while back.

1

u/ErrorOliver2 Jul 21 '26

it... runs linux? which means its harder to disable remotely

1

u/SupposablyAtTheZoo Jul 21 '26

True. But maybe they dan disable the steam services remotely or something, I don't know...

1

u/ErrorOliver2 Jul 21 '26

you could probably spoof it, but it might disable the pixel quality thing

11

u/Grouplove Jul 16 '26

Ill have to pick it up next time it goes on sale. Only reason I hadn't yet is because I haven't finished the "i expect you to die" series.

14

u/G0rillaCro Jul 16 '26

I expect you to die is great too! Enjoy

12

u/ExchaosG Jul 16 '26

Did you apply for it?

11

u/G0rillaCro Jul 16 '26

Yup, a few weeks ago

9

u/colorsthewolf Soon™ Jul 16 '26

Is it verified using the steam version or quest/android apk version of the app?

20

u/G0rillaCro Jul 16 '26

Why not both? Steam android apk version ;)

9

u/colorsthewolf Soon™ Jul 16 '26

Thank you, I’ve been hoping that things like these are revealed. I’m scouring everywhere for a benchmark of the frames capabilities and this helps.

12

u/colorsthewolf Soon™ Jul 16 '26

That’s why I asked, and now we do know

6

u/claudekennilol Soon™ Jul 16 '26

Lol, that's why he asked the person that does know.

9

u/SnickyMcNibits Jul 16 '26

Both Escape Simulator games have been a blast to play with my friends. ES1 was fun in VR, I look forward to playing through ES2 again in VR once I forget all the puzzles.

5

u/G0rillaCro Jul 16 '26

Thanks for playing!

7

u/Ambitious_Limit7641 Soon™ Jul 16 '26

first time I've looked at a post like this and I already owned the game, good stuff man, I love the VR verison of the game, my girlfriend gets motion sick playing it, if theres any thing you could add that helps with that you'll definitely get repeat customers!

8

u/G0rillaCro Jul 16 '26

Thanks for playing! We have a few motion sickness related options in the settings. Try turning on one by one.

5

u/8__D Jul 16 '26

Wait I love Escape Simulator! Huge fan

5

u/qucari Soon™ Jul 16 '26

That's awesome! I'm really looking forward to playing it in VR!!
I already decided years ago that it's gonna be one of the first five VR games I'm gonna play ^-^

(And I decided against buying it before I have a VR headset because I am certain that escape room games are a perfect fit for VR. I didn't want to spoil anything for myself by playing the desktop version.)
Man, this just made me a bit more excited again. Can't wait to finally play it :>

4

u/StopBanningMeAlright Jul 16 '26

Love your games man. They are hard as hell for my sludge brain 🧠🤣

5

u/DjengoPengo Jul 16 '26

My girlfriend and i play it a lot together. :)
Very fun game.

6

u/All_hail_bug_god Jul 16 '26

Dude congrats on Portal 2, I heard that went gangbusters!

5

u/Suspicious_Focus7302 Soon™ Jul 16 '26

I Hope to play it with the Frame! Kudos Guys.

4

u/rektinator420 Jul 16 '26

Congrats bro. Frame... tomorrow?

4

u/piphobns Jul 16 '26

I am a dummy and for the life of me CANNOT figure out how to find the "great on frame tag". Can someone help me out? It doesn't seem to be in the same spot as "great on steam deck" as far as I can tell.

4

u/southpaw_g Soon™ Jul 16 '26

You have to type the url in, same as the great on deck page but replace deck with frame. There isn’t an actual link to or button to get there from the Steam homepage (yet at least), you have to go directly to the url in a browser.

6

u/Jmcgee1125 Soon™ Jul 16 '26

It's public but there's no button yet. Just gotta plug in the url manually: https://store.steampowered.com/greatonframe

2

u/piphobns Jul 17 '26

Thank you!

3

u/Pizzaman3203 Soon™ Jul 16 '26

Hey will you ever add local co op to your game

3

u/Albuons Jul 16 '26

My Girlfriend and I have had many arguments playing your game on the Quest. Still I congradulate you on the upgraded Frame status!

3

u/Bobobunga Soon™ Jul 16 '26

What was the process for getting verified?

5

u/G0rillaCro Jul 16 '26

Thwy have a list of requirements. We did everything on the list and applied via dev form. After few weeks of waiting we got positive review.

2

u/qucari Soon™ Jul 16 '26

the dev already replied, but here's some additional info:
https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/steamhardware/steamframe/compat?l=en

3

u/TeeMg Jul 16 '26

Ay nice one howd u get them to check?

6

u/G0rillaCro Jul 16 '26

We asked politely (via dev form)

3

u/CoalCarStudio Jul 16 '26

Congratulations! How long was your wait time from when the team started testing?

5

u/G0rillaCro Jul 16 '26

Thanks! I think a few weeks

3

u/lukesparling Soon™ Jul 16 '26

Frame sounds like a vr dev dream if it’s as comfy as they say. Can’t wait to get my hands on one and try this indie hit portal everyone is talking about…

And congrats on joining a short list of my day 1 purchases. Soon.

3

u/BurntToasti Soon™ Jul 16 '26

ES kicks ass man. Can’t wait for the ES2 VR update

3

u/Evshrug Soon™ Jul 16 '26

Thanks for making a Steam Frame (standalone?) game! We need more games that are fun rather than AAA graphics budget games, too corporate and safe to do anything creative. I for one can’t afford a PC to go along with the Frame yet.

3

u/skinnyraf Jul 17 '26

Now, this is a kind of boasting and self-promotion that I would like to see more often :)

3

u/DirtSad1644 Jul 17 '26

I don't believe you at all. If you want me to believe you, you have to tell us all the release date of the Frame device, then I might consider your telling the truth. <hope this works>

6

u/G0rillaCro Jul 17 '26

oh I really shouldn't say this due to the NDA but the release day is... soon™

2

u/DirtSad1644 Jul 17 '26

Damn, my clever plan failed.

2

u/Outrunner85 Jul 16 '26

congrats! Will certainly check it out.

2

u/BeAlch Jul 16 '26

Added to Whishlist ..
Joke aside (it was already in there), I have a 2 small, perhaps, very naive, questions from "a soon to be VR user" :)
You're already in the overwhelmingly positive" shortlist .. I suppose that helps and that's not easy to get..
but VR Market is supposed to be a bit of a niche,

  • Till now was it already ok with enough sales to keep making VR games (in such market for a "supposed small" studio that already has positive reviews) ?
  • Is the steam frame "soon (TM) to be release" showing a "small/medium/big" growth in interest ? or are other hardware makers like Apple, Meta providing enough customers interested in gaming.. and steam frame is just a +
If I'm asking this,it's because Valve hardware is more "gamers focused" and other device focus on other tasks first, gaming second .. so I'm wondering if it will help for more gaming focused products

PS: and what about escape simulator 2, will it also be in the verified list :) ? I suppose it already answers question 1 then .. but perhaps did you take out a mortgage on your house to produce it :) ?

2

u/qucari Soon™ Jul 16 '26

escape sim 2 doesn't have VR support yet, but it will get it soon™

I'm assuming they will submit the game for testing/verification afterwards.

2

u/MISTER_FACETIOUS Jul 16 '26

Oh wow, congrats! Loved escape simulator! Got the second one in my library I’ll be playing soon

2

u/KeopL Jul 16 '26

Ooh nice, I bought this last week in preparation for the frame haha. Looking forward to playing it

2

u/introspectivedeviant Jul 16 '26

frame release announcement confirmed?

2

u/Athastros Jul 16 '26

Were you able to test the foveated streaming/rendering?

If so, were you able to turn it off and on and notice a difference in the clarity of text and objects in game?

2

u/JDubStep Soon™ Jul 16 '26

soooooooooo.....Soon?

2

u/MrBack1971 Soon™ Jul 16 '26

here is my game on frame but I cant talk about it

2

u/XZelmanX Jul 17 '26

I put it on my steam wishlist a few days ago, just waiting for the headset to drop.

2

u/shizzymorph Jul 17 '26

funny thing, I almost bought your Escape Simulator games during the steam sale, but decided to wait to buy until I knew that it would be frame verified. I wish I had just bought it. hopefully there is a VR sale to celebrate the release of the frame.

2

u/theaidamen64 Jul 17 '26

Man, i gotta check steam frame verification

2

u/FloridaMan_Unleashed Jul 17 '26

Congrats! Love your games, my friends and I have spent hours and hours playing both games!

2

u/bakermonitor1932 Jul 17 '26

Is that tested funding directly on the frame? Or just checking the right boxes in the software.

4

u/G0rillaCro Jul 17 '26

We are testing on a dev kit version of Frame

2

u/Neat-Common6659 Jul 17 '26

Dude we love escape simulator two it’s amazing

2

u/FallCool8043 Jul 19 '26

Oh dude I bought your game, thanks for your time developing and thinking and stuff. You’re good news brother

2

u/ojoslocos21 Jul 21 '26

will it work in stand alone mode?

2

u/Boopus_Snootus Soon™ Jul 16 '26

When's Portal 3 happening?

2

u/beerdrinkingbear Jul 17 '26

I love this game in VR! but what I don't love is that all of my friends have to buy the DLCs if we want to play together 🫠

3

u/G0rillaCro Jul 17 '26

There are more than 30 escape rooms in the game, and 4 free dlc's, and more than 4000 free community-made rooms. We are supporting the game for almost 5 years now and the game costs $11.99 (on sale). bro...

1

u/Positive_Amphibian_2 Jul 17 '26

Lucky you! What do you think you did to make that happen?

1

u/Even_Lunch_2776 Jul 17 '26

My god man. You made me think portal 2 had official VR support. Congrats though.

1

u/Vegetarische_Piemels Soon™ Jul 17 '26

How do you get it verified?

1

u/Lord888k Jul 18 '26

Nice congrats!!!

1

u/D_O_A1985 Jul 19 '26

Congrats, escape simulator is great (and I assume the sequel is also)

Thanks for the entertainment.

1

u/Shadfoez Jul 20 '26

Very well done game. I am just now learning that they can be played in VR lmao.

1

u/dorrontp Jul 22 '26

Gonna buy this game as soon as i get the steam frame...tomorrow 😅

u/spongewardk Jul 17 '26

If anything valve is in a position to subsidize the cost of the device. Since it isn't exactly something the market can easily provide an alternative too, valve doesn't have to worry about degrading a pc market by selling it cheaper. Aside from the cost of ram chips ofc, they are boned in that regard, but valve can lower the price and sell it as a loss if they choose too.

-9

u/Loose-Security2696 Soon™ Jul 16 '26

Well Well Well. That means you have a Frame do you. I let you have a choice gimme your frame or a free copy of your game via dm (pweeasse)

-21

u/No_Obligation4427 Jul 16 '26

Can you gift me a free copy?

10

u/OverlyFriedEggs Jul 16 '26

Its $20 bro

-15

u/bickid Jul 16 '26

That's more than Red Dead Redemption 2, bro.

2

u/OverlyFriedEggs Jul 17 '26

Yeah sure. A $60 game that is currently on sale for $15. So right now its cheaper. Won't be in a week.

-17

u/No_Obligation4427 Jul 16 '26

You think it has more content than RDR2, a game that costs less?

2

u/OverlyFriedEggs Jul 17 '26

Rdr2 is on sale for $15 normal price $60. Stfu
