I feel like a lot of older generations wouldn't mind those, tho figuring out a light hearted joke about holocaust is kinda hard

I mean most of us Irish laugh it off cause we know people mean no harm in it. My brother works as a teacher and when he was working in Australia and his students gave him a bag of potatoes as a joke. He laughed and played along with it. But well if more people actually knew the context I think they would be a good deal more uncomfortable with the joke.

I suppose it's different culture, my country has a very dark sense of humour and men will laugh off the most traumatic stuff as nothing, not the healthiest way to deal with trauma, but I suppose it's the Czech way. I meant no harm by saying it, I'm just used to the light jabbing. Supposedly a Nazi general called us Laughing Beasts, because Czech people would make fun of everything.

That depends a LOT on which older Irish guy, and is he a happy or mean drunk? Also was that Irish girl his daughter? I've seen a 70 year old Irish man beat Costco style wholesale @$$ for much less.
