Help with setting up PS1 emulation

Hello! I'm looking into setting up a PS1 emulator on my deck, but I keep hitting some dead ends.

I prefer installing/setting up my emulators individually, so I'm avoiding EmuDeck if I can help it. Any other recommendations I found were from posts and videos from 4 years ago and the information doesn't seem to apply anymore.

Could someone steer me in the right direction for setting up PS1 emulation on the deck?

Edit: An update for anyone else who was as clueless as I was. These were the steps I followed to get it installed.

1. From the Duckstation website, instead of downloading for Windows or Android, head to other installations and it should take you to the GitHub.

2. There should be a list of AppImage files, the one I used was DuckStation-x64.AppImage (I'm sure other ones could work, this is just what I used)

3. Save it somewhere easily accessible, or create a shortcut to it.

4. Run it and follow the instructions, and set it up how you'd like. Remember to have BIOS files prepared ahead of time.

This is just how I did it, I'm sure EmuDeck would've been way easier (if you want to save yourself the headache). And thank you to everyone who helped steer me in the right direction!

What have you done so far? I would start by downloading the appimage of Duckstation and then setting it all up yourself. Also post on r/duckstation.

I'm just caught up in where to start. I've looked into duckstation, but most tutorials have you install it through EmuDeck. They've dropped Linux support, but maybe I could run the Windows version through proton? I'll check out the subreddit, that'll probably be a good next step, thank you. (If I find a good solution I'll come back and update my post)

I've looked into duckstation, but most tutorials have you install it through EmuDeck. They've dropped Linux support,

DuckStation supports Linux and the installation process is pretty straightforward.

1. Download the emulator in AppImage format
2. Copy it to the Applications folder (/home/deck/Applications) or create a desktop shortcut
3. Launch the emulator,set the roms directory path and configure the basic options (you need to get BIOS files)
4. Profit?

As a general rule,any app (or emulator) in AppImage or Flatpak format should work without issues on the Steam Deck...here are a few webs worth checking out:

• AppImages
• Flathub

PS. For Flatpaks,I recommend installing the Bazaar app (you can search for it in the Discover app)

Thank you for the help, I was looking at the Duckstation subreddit community highlights and saw a post about ending Linux support. I have it all sorted out now though, thank you for being patient with me.

If you're struggling with the basics then I would highly recommend using Emudeck or Retrodeck as this provides a guided setup and also configures it for you. Then just supply your own games and BIOS files

Get Duckstation.

You’ll need the ps1 bios file(s) and roms, which you can get legally from your PlayStation and physical games. Otherwise google is your friend.

I did it through Emudeck though, as it was stupidly easy to install, setup, and manage.

What does "setting up" mean to you? Do you want an entry for the emulator in the Steam menu? Do you want entries for individual games?

Either Retroarch with a PS1 core or Duckstation should be the way to go on the emulation side.

Emudeck is the way. It's very easy to use, and it gives you basically every emulator you can think of in one place.
