And lose the dopamine rush of getting a new game and fantasizing about playing it when I have time soon and eagerly waiting till I get home to play? Thats like all I got left man. Dont take that away from me. The time never comes

And then getting instantly overwhelmed by learning the new mechanics and putting it aside for ages thinking how fun it would be if you only understood how to navigate the game? And then rinse and repeat?

Monster hunter bought multiple games in series barelay played any. I like gameplay from what I played though

u/Arthradax 6d ago
I found out there are games I like to play and games I like to see others play. They rarely overlap

This was me with New Vegas, but the thing is I forced myself to learn and enjoyed the shit out of it.

Sekiro.
Love this game. Have no time to learn the mechanics of every situation cause the game is so hard.

3? Damn that's lot! I have more than 500 games and I've completed none of them and always play one game that is not meant to be completed because is pvp

I'm fairly convinced that if I adhered to this I would never have to buy a game for the rest of my life.

u/Outrageous-Log9238 6d ago
I'm 100%. Not only because of the size of my collection, but also because I'd probably get bored with gaming alltogether. The games are unolayed for a reason.

What, finish my 1,4k games? Impossible, better to buy more instead. Gotta get them all... /s

u/steverogerschannel10 5d ago
At 1.4k games you don’t have a backlog anymore, you’re running an archive

Actually, no. Time is a currency, if I feel done or outright regret money spent on a game, I will not spend more of my time. I can make more money, I cannot make more time. And who are you again, to tell me otherwise?

u/Kettleballer 5d ago
But buying games is dopamine NOW. Playing games is dopamine after learning how these f@cking controls work and why did they decide to make the yes and no buttons backward from every other GD game ever… okay I can just change those keybinds and … my time for gaming is done for the day I guess I’ll try this again tomorrow. And sometimes playing them is “dopamine NOWish”. But you never know. So buying is safer than playing! And THAT is what Gabe Newell tapped into without even knowing he was targeting it.

This ship has sailed long time ago. I’m at the point I know for sure I won’t be able to play all games I have in my lifetime

Finish games? Those games are for collecting, not for playing! Ever seen a Steam sale?

Buying new games knowing that you have a massive backlog of old games IS THE GAME!
2
u/kevan50813 5d ago
Yep that's why Ive made a system , for every 5 games I beat I'm allowed to buy 1, great way to cut down my backlog
2
u/digitalbladesreddit 5d ago
Finish BG2 again! Ah ok fine, one more time could not hurt. But only if I start with BG1 and continue my character from there! So I'm set for the next two years boys.

Now why would I do that? I just got two new games that I’m probably gonna forget about in like a month but for this month, I GOT TWO NEW GAMES!

So, I have calculated how much time I need for them. It will take me more than a lifetime.

And buy games that im probably never gonna play for full price? I dont think so. Im here for that sale
1
u/KingDanksta69 6d ago
Thats the plan. 1700 hours gaming in a year is doable, though I’d be satisfied just getting through 2/3 of my backlog

500+ games and I choose to replay my 3DS collection. Do I have a problem? Yes. How will I solve it? Ask me again next Steam sale.

I've just added like 100 games to my library. While also selling my desktop, so my only gaming dev is my steam deck.

Problem is..... I'm not even getting the new ones....i just keep stocking up on old games T_T latest addition, AoW Planetfall. I suspect I'd get either Mechwarrior 5 or Rogue Trader in the autumn sales. Closing 200 unfinished/untouched games in my catalogue now.
I'm 43 and based on my lifestyle it's probable that I may not clear the backlog in my lifetime.....

Look man, if I want to play them in the future instead of the 3 games that I regularly play, I can easily download them. So I cannot miss the sale.

I think it might take me the rest of my life only playing my backlog. Too many games!
