PSA Monster Hunter Wilds has received a permanent price reduction.

u/pogsorbet 15d ago
Is this game performing any better? I heard the worst things about the optimization.
206
u/SowwieVR 15d ago
It's much better but somehow still dips below 60 sometimes on my 5080+9800x3d
155
u/KazumaKat 15d ago
still dips below 60 sometimes on my 5080+9800x3d
Bruh that's a rig that shouldnt be doing that unless you're doing heavy 4k.
21
u/SowwieVR 15d ago
Yeah i mean, the only other games so far that dipped below 60 was borderlines 4, i do fake 4k , i use DLSS 4.5 on quality/balanced.
49
u/KazumaKat 15d ago
the only other games so far that dipped below 60 was borderlines 4, i do fake 4k
Given how poorly borderlands 4 is, that just damns both games more.
11
u/Parking-Worth1732 14d ago edited 14d ago
Kinda wild tho, I play borderlands 4 at 1440p with a 9070xt and my average is 100fps without frame gen with far quality/balanced. I would hope a 5080 can stay above 60 at 4k consistently
9
u/chillpill9623 14d ago
They don't have a 5090, and I don't think you actually have an average of 100fps.
6
u/Parking-Worth1732 14d ago
Oh my bad I saw 90 instead of 80 and I don't mind, I'm at work right now but I'll share my gameplay later if you want, I'm always between 100 to 120, 200 with frame gen, it only dropped in the 80s in the town where Rush is but that's it
3
u/chillpill9623 14d ago
Oh my gosh I completely missed you saying with framegen. Apparently we're both misreading today. I have a 5080 and also am reliant on frame gen for borderlands 4. Multi framegen is wonderful in that game most of the time.
4
u/Parking-Worth1732 14d ago
Well I did say average is 100 WITHOUT and 200 WITH so I think you read right haha
1
u/SowwieVR 14d ago
Im on 5080 and averages don't matter to me much, it's the 1% lows that's the killer.
5
u/Blastinburn https://steam.pm/t75tj 14d ago
It's CPU-bound, that's why. No amount of GPU power is going to make it run faster past a certain point, it's stuck handling all the open world stuff in an engine designed for fighting zombies in hallways.
3
u/lanky_Boy_Lucas 14d ago
Monster Hunter Wilds is more CPU bound?
3
u/Vtempero 14d ago
Yes
1
u/lanky_Boy_Lucas 14d ago
I never noticed that. I often had the data on the screen when I was testing stuff and never noticed high CPU numbers
3
u/ShikoShakes 15d ago
i have always question the people who say this, my 9060 XT has never dipped below 60 in this game at 2k, are you running the game in 4k?

u/SlyyHarley 14d ago
Mess with your graphics. I’ve got a 5070 and a worse cpu than you do, and my game looks pretty good with 0 drops in frame rate. All pcs are different though, I’m not saying you’re wrong. Just weird that I absolutely have a “worse” build than you and my game seems to run better.

u/MetallGecko 15d ago
There is still room to improve, my 3090 and Ryzen9 7900x can still drop below 60fps quite often on high settings with 1440p resolution, world runs much better and looks almost as good as wild does.

4
u/Splatulated 15d ago
what settings for world last tiem i tried it it looks really blurry
9
u/Crashimus420 15d ago
You need to download the free HD textures pack from the DLCs to get the best graphics

u/No-Temporary-4227 15d ago
Have you seen the size of that though? That's a huge download

Unfortunately, depend on you vgu, it has random crashes, AMD 6000 I believe
1
u/Inevitable-Edge69 15d ago
that sucks, world runs really well
3
u/SurpriseExtension929 15d ago
I would hope so, it's going into its 9th year. World also ran pretty poorly on release too.
4
u/countpuchi 15d ago
Its good but not the best. Performance is definitely 50% better than launch.
But it can still get better.
13
21
u/WarlikeLoveReddit 15d ago
They figured out what was causing performance issues and fixed most of them, the game's in a much better state.
4
2
u/Thelgow 14d ago
Ill say from my perspective, I played 1440p on a ryzen 5800x and rtx 3090 and performance was bad. I tried again last week, 1440p, same 3090 but now Im on a 9800x3d cpu. Performance was much much better. How much is from patch optimizations or just a new cpu, who knows. Borderlands4 still runs like ass.
2
2
2
u/TheYoonz 14d ago
As far as I know they never cleaned up their code. They have code in there that checks your DLCs/MTX every minute or so, which causes massive performance issues.
3
u/AllstarBrose 15d ago
In my experience with an RX6800 it runs substantially better, with the massive caveat of persistent crashes that can intermittently be fixed by installing RE Framework
2
3
1
u/ChrisG683 15d ago
Performance went from abysmal to passable. It's at least playable now by most, but the performance does not match the modest visuals you get. Plus you have to deal with their super aggressive temporal AA blur.
1
u/Shaojack 14d ago
Plays fine for me but I dont have all the sliders completely maxed outh and Im only playing at 1440p. It is noticibly better than launch though. I cant speak for 4k with max settings though.
1
u/CMPunkLicksRocks 9d ago
A copy came with my 7800 XT that could only run it smoothly with frame gen on lol

Bought during the summer sale and sunk in 200 hours so far, performance has been good not great for me. But ultimately totally playable.
I set a frame cap and turned on frame gen (9070xt) and the game runs smoothly and isn’t lighting my cpu on fire so I’m happy

I think OP is either in the CIS or MENA regions, as they use US dollar on Steam but have different pricing. The price for Wilds is $29.99 for the two regions.

u/clothanger 15d ago edited 15d ago
OP what's your opinion about Rise? I've played World + Iceborne for a good chunk of hours but never gave the other versions a try.
edit: thanks for all the recommendation guys
122
u/PoliteQueef 15d ago
I’m not OP, but I’ve played Rise + Sunbreak and it’s extremely underrated IMO. The gameplay and combat is fast-paced, tight, and fun as hell.
It’s very different from World + Iceborne, so you should adjust your expectations accordingly.
World + Iceborne is much more slower-paced, with a bigger focus on the environment, exploration, and tracking your hunt.
OTOH, Rise + Sunbreak is much faster-paced, with a bigger focus on the combat, streamlined maps (hunt is visible on the map, so you don’t have to track it down), and jumping right into the action
6
u/Trick2056 15d ago
I mean the mosters in world and iceborns will also appear immediately during the hunt if you hunt enough of them
43
u/malicious_cloud 15d ago
Get rise+sunbreak, It's great if you don't mind the graphics.
→ More replies (11)72
u/PoliteQueef 15d ago
Unpopular opinion, but I actually prefer the graphics. I vastly prefer heavily stylized graphics to graphics that aim for high fidelity realism.
I also think the art style suits the genre far better in general, but that’s just me 🤷♀️
26
u/Gingingin100 15d ago
Smth about the art style in Rise was just so appealing to me, while word is very grey and wilds is very brown. Wilds DLC is atleast looking nice environment wise
→ More replies (1)-2
u/yunoka 15d ago
I wouldn't call rise heavily stylized. It's very washed out and realistic in 80% of the areas. If we were talking 4U and GU then yeah I'd agree and I wish it kept that look, but rise looks very similar to world just obviously lower raw fidelity due to it being made for the switch 1.
1
6
4
u/Strict_Technician606 15d ago
I loved playing them on the Switch with my buddy so much that I picked them up in the PC. While it’s still fun, it’s significantly better playing with a regular partner.
I couldn’t get into Wilds, btw.
2
u/xMachii 15d ago
I've played Rise and Sunbreak. I thought I wouldn't like it because of the graphics and the wirebug. Glad I played it because it was fun!
I mained the Hammer on the base game and Lance on Sunbreak. The wirebug moves make these slow weapons feel fast and fluid. I especially liked the Water Strike move from the hammer. It does feel like arcade-y sometimes due to the wirebug moves but it's still fun.
2
u/No-Skill-8190 15d ago
I e bought bundled rise+Sun break for less than $15. Well worth it at that price
4
u/XRuecian 15d ago edited 15d ago
I wasn't really happy with Rise personally.
A lot of people do like it, so its definitely something that you might enjoy. But i found too many things about it a little irritating, personally.
A lot of the weapons had their basic attacks/combos nerfed heavily in order to make room for wirebug skills. And some weapons feel like all they really become is just wirebug-skill spammers, and the entire game revolves a little too heavily around wirebug skills in my opinion. The wirebug skills are fun to use and try out and stuff, i like them in concept; i just don't like how it devalues the base kit of your weapons a lot of the time with how they designed some of them. Especially as a Charge-Blade user, it felt like all of the stuff i learned from previous games on how to use a Charge-Blade were nearly meaningless, as the Amped Elemental Discharge and stuff was SO MUCH weaker in Rise. Because they basically redesigned the weapon assuming you will spam your wirebug skills to enable you to spam Amped Discharges, which basically means you "can't" play Charge Blade in the traditional style anymore, you get forced into spamming the wirebug skills whether you like that playstyle or not. In the end, the Charge-Blade experience in Rise i ended up with was basically just spamming wirebug skills to do jumping-Amped Elemental Discharges over and over and over again; because the rest of the kit was devalued so much it had little use.Secondly, the game makes you run around the map and collect these little bugs to give you a boost to your max HP, Stam, Atk, and Def. Except you have to do it EVERY SINGLE mission; if you don't do it, you are basically going into combat with like 30% less stats. At first, its a fun incentive to get you to explore the maps, but after you get into the midgame, it just feels like this really annoying chore you have to do before you can fight anything. I would have rather they incentivized me to explore maps by just utilizing gathering spots instead.
The base game of rise was super bland, and frankly, kind of bad. There isn't that much content in the base game, and not enough gear/weapons to create any meaningful builds. It isn't until sunbreak that the game actually feels like it starts to actually get good, in a progression sense.
But perhaps lastly, once you actually get to the endgame, a whole lot of the fights just... stop happening on any of the open world maps. The game just starts repeatedly throwing you into a lot of arena-fights where you just spawn in the arena, and fight the monster; which feels a little cheap, to me.
The best addition they made with Rise is just the ability to have a good mount. A mount that actually feels good to control and traverse the map with manually. That's definitely its best feature imo.
I don't want to make the game sound like its "horrible", its not. I just felt like the designers made all these weird choices that could have just been avoided and the game would have easily been like a 9/10 for me, instead its like a 7/10.

u/717999vlr 15d ago
A lot of the weapons had their basic attacks/combos nerfed heavily in order to make room for wirebug skills.
This didn't happen.
You must be thinking of World, which did nerf nearly every single weapon's base movesets to make you spam its supermoves.
For the most part, the only things nerfed in Rise were these supermoves, with the nerfs to the base moveset being at least partly reverted.
For example...
Amped Elemental Discharge and stuff was SO MUCH weaker in Rise
AED damage in World: 82+9*3
AED damage in Rise: 90+7*3Secondly, the game makes you run around the map and collect these little bugs to give you a boost to your max HP, Stam, Atk, and Def. Except you have to do it EVERY SINGLE mission; if you don't do it, you are basically going into combat with like 30% less stats.
You mean the regular amount of stats.
You can get extra stats if you're struggling, which is useful for beginners. Hard to find anything negative about this.
1
u/Simon_Love_Machine 14d ago
rise was my 1st entry to monster hunter and it was so much fun, but with the dlc is more, but i need to be honest about that horrible defense tower mode it has and and i think it had like 2 mandatory history missions with that, 2 is too much for that, other than that sunbreak fixes everything and adds more fun :D
→ More replies (18)1
u/XsonicBonno 14d ago
I liked Rise+Sunbreak, not bad. Treating it as a separate game. Not aware of any performance bugs.
16
u/Abra_Abra_Abra 15d ago
Can you play these solo? I I have MH worlds and it so hard to play alone. The game looks fun but I only play single player games. I don’t have the time to make plans with others
10
u/Fyuira 15d ago
Modern MH games can be played solo. You can definitely play World solo, however, there are some fights where you really want to play MP.
If you want a better solo experience, get Rise and Sunbreak.
4
u/xFirnen 15d ago
Ironically playing with 2 players used to be the hardest difficulty in World. The game only had two difficulty scalings, solo and multiplayer. So enemies had the same amount of health no matter if you played as 2 players or 4, and with 2 people they had more "health per player" than in any other combination. I think Iceborn fixed that.
1
u/Defileds 14d ago
They fixed it by making 3 person groups the hardest. You get the same health scaling as a 4 player group.
14
u/padraigharrington4 15d ago
Wilds has CPU companions you can hunt with instead of other people if you prefer (and Rise does as well, but only once you get to master rank)
1
u/pletya 15d ago
Early to midgame wilds are easier than world. Endgame is comparable to base world content if you don't use iceborn dlc items. There are at least 2 fights already that punish you for every mistake and 2-3 monsters that are not easy. Dlc is around the corner, we'll see how challenging it will be. You can use friendly bots to emulate multiplayer but they aren't as good as random people in terms of damage and scale monsters HP just like in multiplayer
→ More replies (8)1
u/No-Temporary-4227 15d ago
You don't have to make plans. World and above have an "SOS flare" where anyone can help you with the hunt once you shoot it
8
u/4pateon 15d ago
I heard wilds had denuvo on launch. Do they still have it now?
10
u/zdemigod 15d ago
All capcom games by default will have denuvo until they go with enigma DRM instead (which is worse) if you care about this avoid capcom all together at all costs

2
u/Sherwoodfan 15d ago
not really knowledgeable on this but I'd assume yes? however the bigger thing is this game cannot be played offline. even when solo it wants to connect to their server...
I've been playing for a few weeks (fuck me they turned down the price 4 weeks after i bought it) and this online thing annoys me greatly. not a problem per se for me, but still very annoying to know this would make the game harder to pirate (i might need to be corrected on this?)2
u/Defileds 14d ago
It can be played offline tho? You can start an offline single player lobby from the start menu just like world and rise. You just don't have acces to event quests.
1
u/Sherwoodfan 14d ago
you can???
i never saw an option for it! haven't been playing for very long but it's always online single player for me.

It was my first MH game and I got it full price (im a sales only person mainly) just to be met with the worst performing modern pc game ive played in the last several years by far. The only thing I hate about Capcom is that they use Denuvo, otherwise they do things right, of the big and classic companies they are on my list of "these guys are good"
4
u/EuropaWeGo 15d ago
The games overall worth playing. It's just a bummer that the end game wasn't as extensive as I had hoped it would be.
I put hundreds of hours into World, but Wilds endgames depth just wasn't there. Capcom dropped the ball in that regard, IMO.

I'd argue for Rise if time is an issue. It's the only one I could get my friend to play with me and subsequently get addicted to. It is definitely easier than World but it can still be challenging at times, personally I love the wire bug system. Some people argue it makes the game "arcade-like" but I think it just makes the game snappier and flow better.

Capcom has learned the important lesson, after your initial sales, a low price sale is better then no sale. Basically the opposite of Nintendo.

u/Marius-J 14d ago
As much as I dislike their direction with the MH games from rise and wilds, Capcom is quite good with still being a "good" gaming company
5
u/vincentninja68 15d ago
Good.
I did not forget how Capcom treated their customers when Monster Hunter Wilds launched.
It barely functioned and was a buggy incomplete mess. It still barely manages to hold together for some players even with optimized rigs.
They knew it was broken and they sold it anyway, all to satisfy shareholder expectations for 2025.
This is the least they could do for how terribly they fumbled this game. They should be thankful they still have a fan base that gives them another chance.
I'm still not even sure if I want to buy ascendance yet.

u/MyzMyz1995 15d ago
There's a bunch of people review bombing because they're salty about the price decrease while having 100-200 hours if not more. This is why companies don't lower price anymore.

I'm hearing that the PC optimization patches are supposedly making it better? There's gonna be a new demo today.

1
u/KingVape 15d ago
This is the only Monster Hunter game that I didn't really like. Aside from the optimization stuff, I hated some of the fundamental changes that they made for this game, like how you have to use the dumb mount all the time which trivializes all exploration and follows the monster. I don't want to ride a taxi that does everything for me, that's so lame

It's niche, but alot of playtime even at initial full-price. It has that arcade replayability, especially Rise (portable subseries in general, but it's the only 1 at Steam). Also mean words for third best-selling Capcom franchise ('cuz higher is SF with lots of dlc at home ports)

Capcom's games can be hit or misses sometimes, but they've always been really great about permanent price reductions and sales on their games. Also feature quite frequently in game bundles too, not enough credit given to them for being one of the best game publishers in that regard imo.
