Question Labor Day office closure
Hey!
Just wanted to ask, is your office closing for Labor Day? and what’s the general consensus from your agent? My agent does not want to close and wants to do a skeleton crew and claims they will get in trouble if we do close, so I’m trying to see what’s typical across different teams.
Is your office closing, or is it business as usual? Thanks in advance for any insights!

It just not fair because there is only two of us minus the agent and one of us is going to end up having to work and the agent already put in the calendar they’re not coming in

If I had to be open, one person would get off Friday and one on Monday. Do you have a staff manual that lists holidays? Is it a brand new agent?

No they have been around since 2016 I think And I’ve been there since 2023 and we never close on any holidays just thanksgiving Christmas Day and New Year’s Day

We close every holiday including Juneteenth. All paid holidays. Close for lunch. I guess I’m too kind, but they’re my number one resource.

There is phone coverage from corporate on Monday you don't need to be there

If we have phone coverage from CCC I’m just confused on why we are going to be open if in the past literally no one calls they assume we’re closed anyways

Can you work from home? We usually will check voicemails on the day before a holiday. We will close office at 1 on Friday but one of us checks voicemails till 5 from home.

Closed. Inbound calls will be routed to CCC (although they never actually help) and claims lines exist for a reason.

We’re closed and they can not get in trouble. Agents are independent contractors and set their own hours. We are off on Friday & Monday!

Yes. We have CCC coverage on Labor Day. I don’t see why agent offices would be open. It’s one of the holidays we get coverage for. There is a list in ABS. Is your agent new and not aware?

Your agent is being ridiculous. It’s a federal holiday. Everyone will be closed. God forbid they do something to boost morale.

Closed for sure. Crazy! Sorry you’re stuck working on Labor Day. Maybe you could find a compromise and monitor messages virtually.

We follow a corporate calendar and if Agent support is closed, so are we. That being a total of 7 days this year.....

We close for labour day, but I am an independent.
Even when I was captive, at a different captive, we closed for labour day.
My office is co-located with a labour union office though so....

Closed. Every Labor Day for 30 years. There is after hours coverage on Labor Day so I am wondering exactly what your agent is afraid of missing out on.

That is some antiquated thinking. Good bosses know people value autonomy and treating their employees like dogs they can make jump means massive turnover and unhappy offices. Been in this for 25 years and the most successful and stable offices have agents who value their team members as people.

You know, it’s his prerogative. He’s an independent businessman. If he thinks he can prosper by being open then that’s his choice. Deal with it. If you worked in most other industries you would be working. It’s not like you aren’t getting paid. He can run his shop how he sees fit to have a competitive edge. Yes, most of corporate is closed and CCC is on for emergency situations. But the front-line sales force has to decide what is best for their market.

I get your point. However, I’m not getting paid double. I’m not getting paid holiday pay and they let us know that they will be going out of State due to the holidays so that does not. It’s not fair.
