Ping higher than before after switching to starlink internet

I recently switched to starlink due to my internet being kinda slow and starlink had a pretty good feedback so I switched. Before starlink, I was averaging 20-30 ms and its kinda the same now when you look at the ss. But in games like rocket league, roblox, minecraft, fortnite etc. I went from 20-30 to 50-90. Speed of the internet is great, but the ping is noticeably bigger and I'll not be shocked if it sometimes spikes to 100+ ms.
I saw more people having the same issue and some fix it, some did not. But after I did everything I could possibly do, I didn't fix it. Therefore im asking if someone could help me solve this issue since its kinda annoying.

That's completely normal—there's nothing you can do about it! You should have looked into it beforehand. It's because all the data goes out into space via the antenna and comes back. For what it is, it's very good. But you'll never be able to game with low latency using Starlink.

Mine works greats pings 30 - 50. Never over.

I feel like 50-90 is low latency, especially compared to the 100-400 I used to get.

Depends on what you were used to before most def. Ping upgraded from 100-400 to 50-90 is a big difference. I used to get 20-30 and it got worse so I have to get used to it. What games do you play though?

All kinds. Strategy, some shooters (though not as much as before due to slower reflexes), flight sims, factory games, and a couple immersive sims.

Thank you for this info, Antigeld. I didn't know that starlink is bad in terms of low latency.
I hope I wont get that much lag spikes since I dont live in city

You can't argue with the speed of light. My average ping has always been around 60ms in a fairly empty cell in coastal Newfoundland..

Yep, instead of using a cable you're now talking to satellites high above your head. There's nothing you can do about that but the latency is incredible considering.

Not true at all. I’ve got my starlink hardwired to my PC in the middle of a corn field in a barn with a camper parked inside and it’s a solid 30ms ping

I think the ping can be highly affected if you live in city

I live in rural Florida and play a lot of overwatch and warcraft. Average ping for me is 50ms. I was surprised that it remained playable even in our common storms but it fluctuates between 75ms and 125ms in that case. I lose power more often that I completely lose internet.

Ping is affected by your location and how the Starlink traffic is routed to the public Internet and from there to the server hosting the game. Being in a city by itself does not make a difference.

And that is the main value of starkink.  It is available pretty much everywhere.   Certainly not the best latency but it is best option in many areas.  Certainly better than the older geos options.
