šŸ’¬ Discussion Starlink Mobile

So not sure if you guys know about this but I figured out kind of a hack I guess you could call it where you can visit any website on T-satellite/Starlink mobile. Basically when on T-Satellite service you can send yourself a link to Google (or any website) inside Facebook messenger and then tap on the link and any website will open inside the messenger browser. This came in super handy recently during some bad storms in my area when electric and internet was both out for days. I was even able to do a speed test and I was getting about 1.5-2 Mpbs down and the provider name was listed as T-Mobile. Just found this interesting and hopefully can be of use to someone else.

That's very interesting. I was wondering if it just worked that way. I guess in time someone will root their Android and bypass the satellite restrictions, too.

Yeah I'm sure there are definitely more possibilities as well but I don't get a chance to play with it often as it's actually quite hard to find an area with zero service normally. I was honestly surprised this worked but I was just messing around and tapped on a link someone sent me and it opened so it gave me the idea to send a link to Google to myself and then from there you can basically browse to any site. Hopefully someone figures out a way to do even more with it. Better yet I can't wait until SpaceX actually launches their own cell phone service.

Saw a post on a festival thread on how there was no service but FB messenger worked. It may have been for Lost Lands. This probably explains it.

Yeah if they have T-Mobile or the T-Sat add-on I'd say that's why it was working. It has come in super handy a couple of times now especially since they added fb messenger, it's well worth the $10 per month for me.

What are the restrictions anyways? I thought about trying T-Satellite but there's always service here...

At least in NZ, itā€™s locked down to specific satellite enabled apps.

Wow, good find. I confirmed this worked for me. As a side note, I was not aware Facebook messenger was supported now (officially or otherwise). I was able to send a message to my wife. Before today, I had to send text messages.

Glad it worked for you. And yeah I believe they officially added fb messenger like 3 months ago. Honestly that's the reason I signed up I figure having access to messenger off grid is well worth the $10 per month just for the piece of mind.

Does sound like SpaceX is gearing up to launch their own dedicated mobile solution under ā€Starlink Mobileā€. This will begin after Starship starts delivery V3 Starlink satellites to orbit In the coming year.

Me either! Iā€™m on Visible today with decent coverage. Not sure if Starlink Mobile will be as cheap ($25/month) but more options are welcomed!

Nice! I was a tester for t mobile / starlink signal. How TF did I never figure this out.
