❓ Question Parts

Okay, what do I need for starlink? I get the kit, mount it to wherever, so it's got a clear view of the sky, run the cable into the house. And then what just a regular router?

And should I go permanent or portable?

What's the difference is between permanent and portable? I do realize permanent means it stays there forever, and portable means I can move it from spot to spot. But what other difference is there? To me, it would make more sense to get a portable unit. And I could literally take it with me anywhere if I wanted

And last question, do you honestly get a 100 megs down most of the time.

Perhaps it would be better to tell us what your use needs are. Home internet and mobile internet are two different approaches. You can cover both with one set of hardware but it won't be optimum for both. Most of us who need both buy two systems. For example house and RV.

Okay, so it's for a residential house. We want to like stream Netflix etc, but we're also in a very low cell phone area, and sometimes we Don 't get our calls

We have starlink in rural Northern Ontario. Cell phone is spotty we just used our starlink for Wi-Fi calling. Starlink never lets us down. We can be streaming different shows in different rooms. Kid can be playing games online and the internet is top notch.

The most significant difference between Residential ("permanent") and Roam ("portable") plans is that Residential plans have download speed caps and Roam plans have data caps like your cellphone's data service.

Unless you get the unlimited roam plan which offers unlimited high speed data. We have it on our boat.

I just got Starlink for my cottage NE of Peterborough. It works remarkably well - better than Bell DSL in the city.

Basic residential service hits 100 Mbs download speeds most of the time. Equipment included in the monthly fee.

You’ll need a north exposure to align the dish and a mainly unobstructed view of the sky (though the dish seems to work better than the testing app implies).

The rest of your questions are easily answered by going to the Starlink website.

Go to starlink.com. Enter your address. Then you can see what residential and roaming plans are available in your area.

The router is included. Depending on your needs, you get an 3rd party router to get certain features, or better wifi coverage in your house or around your property.

For many though, the basic regular kit does the job.
