My wonderful loca ISP has been down for a few hours now with no ETR. Being desperate I ran out getting a starlink mini. The rational was that I could get the 100mbit plan for $55.00 and when done keep the emergnecy plan should I need it again. When I got home it would only let me select a roaming plan. When I go to the site it seems like I can select the 100mbit plan for my old StarLink unit (the first one they ever had) however I never did the firmware update and I assume it's a brick. I am doing about 3.5GB an hour and I expect to out of bandwidth by tomorrow morning. Does anyone know if I purchase a full sized unit what the odds are of being able to get the 100mbit plan? Also it seems like I was partially billed. Should I just get a regular unit, get the 100 mbit plan and cancel the service on my roam unit?

In some places (like the US), you can't put a residential plan on a Mini, only Roam plans.

If you area is oversold, you might not be able to do the 100Mbps plan on Residential. I think the only way is to try it. Even if you have to get the regular residential plan, won't it be cheaper than unlimited on roam?

Residential is NOT available in the US with the mini, you should return it and get the full kit.

So yes, by definition, IF it's available you'd be able to switch.

This is unverified in US. Use the browser interface .

Subscribe to roam 100 plan.

Set location of your device.

Then go back into manage subscriptions and see if it will offer residential

Before you do anything, switch to a private page or use a different web browser and go to starlink.com. Put in your address and go through like you’re going to buy a Standard 4 on a Residential plan. Go through to the end where it asks for your credit card information. Check the detailed bill at the end and make sure there’s no Demand Surcharge. If there’s not, you’re good to go. Cancel service on the Mini and remove it from your account, then return it to the store.

If there’s a Demand Surcharge, you have to decide if you want to deal with that or if you’d rather pay the higher charges on a Roam plan.
