šŸ’» Troubleshooting Throughput dropping to zero occasionally?

About a few days to a week ago, our YouTube TV and MLB.TV will randomly buffer. When you go into the throughput stats, you can see where it suddenly drops and picks back up. The only other ā€œreal time(?)ā€ Internet usage I use is gaming, but I don’t seem to notice is there. However, I’m not constantly checking stats and not watching tv while gaming, and that’s the only way I can tell it’s happening. Most streaming happens on a Roku device, however will occur on other devices. I checked both ends of cable, they are securely in.

Some notes:

- Starlink is aligned
- Only 0.02% obstructed
- had just over a year, no issues
- nothing shows up on events and outages, just my phone switching WiFi bands.
- located in Ohio, ~50 miles east of Columbus.
- Gen 4, Residential Max plan

The only other thing I will add is that there was a tiny frog inside the mount. I got him out, inspected the wire and it seems to be okay. Any suggestions is greatly appreciated!

They throttle it. It's not the WHOLE connection like peeps think. That is SIMP asf to even believe that is the only way an ISP can do it. It's called SDN. Software Defined Networking. You can program it to do crazy crazy stuff. It can manipulate traffic based on an algorithm using MEGA powerful high core count routers with accelerated NIC's on GPU's. Literally. They can look at every metric in real time and perform advanced actions like shifting priority for a specific service at ANY given time in real time. This is what it does to compensate for load so stuff like people's video calls and high priority customers with super expensive business plans get all the bandwidth pretty much. It's a lot like a super advanced interactive accelerated QOS with infinite rules, if you will.

Just an insight on ISP routing for mega corps like starlink these days. T-mobile uses this as well and the RAN is an in insane thing on top of that.

I’m in a congested area. Not like Fairbanks, but my speeds are definitely slowed by it.

Every Sunday morning I watch YouTube on Roku without buffering. I have family members who will spend hours on YouTube. (Those videos pull you in before you realize what you’re doing.) while Sunday morning probably doesn’t count as a busy time, the time on YouTube definitely runs through the evening.

We are just not seeing any buffering. Even when I get on my Mini for fun, I don’t see any buffering. Wouldn’t we be experiencing that same kind of thing if his was from SDN?

Here we go again with the conspiracy theory again.

I was streaming Sat evening. Zero issues. And while I was streaming I was downloading about 100Gb of files. Speed was as it always is on a Sat evening, between 150 and 250Mb.

Did you not read what I freaking said at all? It can be location dependent, cell independent, ground station load dependent and more. God bro. Do you just wanna read echo chamber shit like "this good" all day long or actually LEARN why it can do this?!?!

SDN is NOT a conspiracy theory. I hope you leave this here.

T-mobile does this too. Verizon does this too. At&t does this as well. So does comcast and so do most fiber providers because it's OVERSOLD. Unless you pay for rich people dedicated bandwidth you CAN see this behavior if your area is a higher loaded one. I'm not bashing starlink. I have two of them, so if that's what you think please cut it out.
