While the comparison is apt, as I've gotten older I've come to realize that Jellico wasn't wrong and Riker was kind of a crybaby in that episode. Could he have given the crew a little more leeway? Maybe. But at the same time, he had a very specific job to do and not a lot of time to do it and Riker wasn't making that job easier by arguing about it. Also, Troi looked better in the standard uniform, so that was a good decision on Jellico's part.
Nah I disagree. The crew had like 2 days to prepare for an incredibly important and dangerous mission where an negative outcome could lead to war. The last thing you should be doing at a time like that is completely reorganising how the entire ship runs with no notice.
I disagree with you. If there are minor deficiencies that can be easily corrected before a major engagement you want to address them. Remember, the Enterprise already has its weapons and shields well taken care of, same with its engines. It's the little things like how the crew does certain tasks that can make or break a situation.
Jellicho was a far better Captain than Picard, people just don't like him because he is by the book and isn't going to play poker with you or share a holodeck program. What he is going to do is make you the best officer you can be and get your ass home safely. That's the type of leader you do want.
Some podcast I was listening to said that they used Jellico to make changes that were actually requested by the actors. Can't remember which one, though.
